A long way from home -…read more On Sunday night I just got done visiting my dad for Father's Day around Lake Okeechobee. On the way back, thankfully in St. Pete, my car broke down. Smoking out of the exhaust, rolling hopelessly on the highway for an exit to get to a safe point. The car hesitated and I got to a point where I could coast in neutral to get to the side of the road, blocking a gateway. Luckily, it was about 12:30 am so no one was trying to get in and out of the industrial complex I was next to. I called Geico, I have roadside, I figured they'd be able to help me out and get someone out soon. Nope. ETA was 4am. How could I possibly wait that long on the side of the road? I was already tired, hungry, annoyed that my car broke. Geico welcomed me to call other tow companies and they would reimburse me. Why not? I figured even if someone was able to come out at 3 that was just an hour less that I would be stuck on the side of the road. I called Tri-J towing. I believe from the time the phone call ended to when the tow truck showed up was about 20 minutes. I was met by a friendly man named John, who took pride in his work and demonstrated the characteristics of a true professional. He hops out of the truck, greets me, asks for keys, not to mention apologizes as the normal response time is 15 minutes- nonsense! I was so grateful to not be stuck on the side of the road and he was plenty quick for me. In under 5 minutes the car was on the tow truck and we were on our way back home - another 30 minute drive. I was a bit shook up after breaking down, nerves on edge, adrenaline pumping. John wasn't just a tow truck driver. He was clean, he was an ear, he had stories and wisdom that alone were worth the towing fee. Truly a friendly company, I hope the next time I require their services of towing it will be under better circumstances.

I had to comment after reading some of these reviews about being towed from Publix in St Pete Beach…read more(Dolphin Village Shopping Center). 1) The owner of the property (NOT Publix or any other of the stores) has a contract with A-1 Recovery to tow vehicles who park there to go to the beach. 2) There are DOZENS of new and bigger signs that say parking is for shopping ONLY (including a BIG one right at the crosswalk light). 3) Buying items at Publix, Starbucks, Dollar Tree, or other Dolphin Village stores does NOT give you the right to cross the street and go to the beach, even with a receipt in the window. 4) Have a little empathy for those of us that are patrons of these stores. If everyone was allowed to park there for trips to the beach, legitimate customers would have nowhere to park! 5) In the 60 minutes I was at Publix on Memorial Day, all of the people walking over to the beach never even looked up at the crosswalk to see the last warning about parking at Dolphin Village to visit the beach. 6) The guys at the tow company are very polite--they're just doing their job. If they have a bad attitude, I'm sure it was started by someone cussing them out for having their vehicle towed. 7) People think the no parking rules apply to everyone but you! Be a grown up and accept YOUR mistake!

The park's authorized towing time was 1:00 a.m., but my vehicle was towed at approximately 12:04 a.m.--about 56 minutes before towing was permitted. I did not call this company or request a tow. Unfortunately, my concerns don't end with the timing of the tow. My AWD vehicle was towed with only the rear wheels on the ground. Immediately following the tow, my vehicle began making noises that were not present before it was towed. I had the vehicle inspected by Mazda of Clearwater, and their inspection identified issues involving the rear differential with coupling and both rear axles. Mazda provided a repair estimate totaling $7,410.00. I also had the vehicle examined by a mechanic, who told me that he has never seen this type of damage on this type of vehicle unless it was improperly towed. I have video documentation of the inspection and the mechanic examining the affected components. I have made multiple attempts to contact the towing company to discuss what happened and try to resolve this matter directly, but my attempts to reach them have gone unanswered. I have not received a response or any meaningful attempt to address the damage. I am now facing approximately $7,410 in repairs, as well as the potential for significant diminished value because of the damage and resulting repair history. I am currently seeking legal advice regarding the improper timing of the tow, the manner in which my AWD vehicle was transported, the resulting damage, repair costs, and diminished value. I am sharing my experience so other vehicle owners are aware of what happened and can be cautious about how their vehicles are handled.
