Because they apparently don't use modern technology like calendars and phones. All is great as long as you don't need them to pick up the full bin. If you do, be prepared to get ghosted on the appointed day/time. Not just once but over and over again. This is where a calendar would come in really handy! They NEVER call you to tell you the schedule changed, or the driver is late or give you what ever (likely flimsy) excuse they have for not showing up. They must not have reliable phones! I would recommend this company to no one who needs reliable service. Look elsewhere.

I suppose now is as good a time as any to reveal I've begun an internship at a nonprofit group…read moredowntown; I was offered the position because I'm friends with the person who runs the office for the chairman, my friend "L". L knows that with my B.A. in Political Science, paired with a keen understanding of politics, and my ability to get things done, I should be going places if I stick with it. What do I do exactly? Basically, I'm L's bitch. It's "The Devil Wears Prada", except instead of being sent to glamorous boutiques and tony restaurants, I'm sent to such exotic locales as the Chuy's off Barton Springs and the downtown post office to buy stamp coils. Here's where Balcones Recycling comes into play. Since everyone's so busy on a day-to-day basis, it appears that the cans of La Croix and bottles of Dublin Dr. Pepper in our kitchen have been accumulating I'd say, in a rough estimate, since April of Way Too Long Ago. Additionally, there was more untouched paper recycling in both the kitchen and the copy room than I believe there was actual paper stock. Apparently, the attorney in our office was about to lose his shiat because of the mess, and I was assigned the task of getting rid of the junk. This is absolutely not a problem. When I get going on deep cleaning and/or organizational kicks, I get on a roll and I won't stop until everything is perfect; my OCD is a powerful force I only unleash to do good. I wanted the crap out ASAP myself. I found a website online that listed nearby recycling centers, and while a tad confusing about who accepted what items, I figured Balcones would be my best shot. I asked L if they paid for cans, and she said she wasn't sure but if they did, I could keep the money as a tip. All 75 cents of it, I was guessing. Score. The drive into East Austin always makes me nervous, and this time was no exception. I found the location with ease, but all the parking spaces were full. Large 18-wheelers are constantly moving and out, and there is no signage about where one would drop off recyclables. I "creatively" parked and popped inside the office, where a friendly girl behind the desk explained there is a white dumpster just across the way that I could toss everything into. I thanked her, even though I was bummed I wouldn't be paid for my monstrous bag of cans. Nervously, I threw everything away as I prayed Kar would not be crushed by those damn trucks driving everywhere. The dumpster said "paper and cardboard only", so I double checked with the nearest guy standing around and he said I could go ahead and toss the cans in, too. Works for me As I left by narrowly escaping another incoming 18-wheeler, I felt proud of myself. I realized that I had just done my part to help maintain a sustainable environment for us, for our children, and for our beloved Planet Earth. Plus, L said I had to. 3 Stars.

YESTERDAY on 3/21/26 I came through there with sorted material. #1)black trash bag full of #2 insulated wire #2) orange 5gal bucket with bare bright #3) a box with #1 insulated wire #4) extruded aluminum put into a wheel barrel from my truck & onto the scale. #5) 4 pieces of clean brass laid onto scale. All of which is on YOUR cameras. Since there was a line & it was almost closing time, I got my cash & receipt, got in my car & drove away. At the traffic light I immediately realized the mistake as I looked at my receipt & cash. I called the business for which a WOMEN answer & said "sorry we are closed" I said "don't care I'm coming back right now". I then spoke to a manager in person who said "mistakes happen but we are closed now come back in the morning & we will take care of it". My receipt had Brass, #2 insulated, #2 insulated again & #3 insulated. WHERES THE ORANGE HOME DEPOT 5 GAL BUCKET OF BARE BRIGHT????? I was meet by the "owner" who took my note and my reciept & proceeded to tell that I was wrong, my story was a lie, stated "he don't have a WOMEN on his payroll"... I don't care if she is on your payroll or not, you got a women that answered the phone or a dude that speaks just like a WOMEN, you got a manager that told me to come up here today, you got many cameras that caught you committing a crime & stealing from me and now you STEAL my receipt!!! My husband was able to reach out by calling/texting and someone was quickly able to provide a quote of $450-500 for labor, haul off and disposal which was very fairly priced. They also were able to quickly get us on schedule and the day of, updated us on their ETA during the arrival window. The crew was very professional and friendly and we were thrilled with the work and treatment of our property and hauling away everything, like you'd never know something used to be there, aka a hot tub! The electrical portion was left and the guy stated we could have an electrician come to cap it but other than that, JunkGuys was so helpful and great at taking care of this so quickly for us :) We look forward to reaching out again and using them next time we have projects that require further clean out and removal of things!

This is the only dump I've ever been to in my 37 years on planet Earth that didn't have me wanting to puke while being there. I don't know what their methods are but to me that's amazing! I've been a few times but I had to dispose my old bed recently which caused me to make an appearance there. The dump is actually in Creedmoor (It says Buda on Yelp) & FM 1327 is a quiet & pleasant little road to travel along. The nature preserve surrounding the landfill is also pleasant to look at & is kind of cool that the landfill is trying to make good use of the land surrounding it. The overall cost of disposing my old bed + large boxes left behind from the new bed ended up being around $67. That with the $45 U-Haul pickup rental + gas was still cheaper than paying the furniture store's $189 disposal fee. The employees I dealt with were friendly, had good attitudes, & from an outsider's perspective they seemed to be well taken care of by the company they work for.

Their single‑operator trucks will not move a bin if a car is nearby, even on public streets where homeowners have no control. The only remedies offered are insufficient: a couple of extra bags next week or paying double for a return trip. This is not customer service -- it's a penalty for their own cost‑cutting. Speaking with a supervisor confirmed they have no flexibility or willingness to help. Very disappointing.
