I just finished my 30 mile training ride before the Lake to Lake (in three days), and I drove into the garage with my bike on top of my car. (emoji - hand slap to the forehead). I brought my bike in and everyone was very kind. They hooked me up with a pair of new wheels and tires after they assessed my bike. As they put on my new wheels, they made sure everything was in working order, chain double checked, greased, gears all checked, etc. They went the extra mile to make sure I was ready for my event that I was training for and they also kept me within my budget. A great local bike shop that thrives on quality service. They don't have a huge selection of things like apparel etc, but keep a little of everything on hand. First time I went in to schedule a service and to ask some questions, Chris spent the better part of an hour talking through different options to get my bike in top shape. Second time I came in to drop the bike off, Christian checked in with me on what maintenance was to be done. We got to talking and I mentioned some discomfort I'd been experiencing in my hands on the bars and he made some recommendations that were low cost but high impact. To top it off he suggested that a costly wheel upgrade I was looking at probably could be postponed and that with my particular bike (a 10+ y/o carbon Giant) I'd get more bang for my buck by just upgrading tires and enjoying the bike for another season or two before springing for a new model down the road. I really appreciated his honest opinion and attention to detail. Maintenance was well done leaving the drivetrain cleaner and smoother than it had been in years. Spent a little more than anticipated due to a cracked derailer hanger, but the service was excellent. Really pleased with the willingness of staff to spend time explaining things and talking options. In the end I decided to pull the trigger on a bike computer with them as well since the other places I'd been or done research really couldn't speak in detail on comparing brands/models. I went in because I couldn't figure out how to remove a cassette from an e-bike wheel. An employee then tried to convince me that it was actually built into the wheel, and I would have to buy an entire assembly to replace it. Skeptical, I looked it up and he had lied directly to my face. Went to Brave New Wheel in Fort Collins where an employee popped the cassette off in under 10 seconds for no cost. read more

I'm surprised that I am the first to review these guys! The shop is clean, easily accessible off of US HWY 34, in a shopping center with a Safeway and in great proximity to biking trails. You can literally grab lunch, get your bike tweaked and head off to a trail! These guys are quick and accommodating. I had some brake issues on my mountain bike, I brought it in around noon on a very busy Saturday and they managed to get me in and get my bike fixed before 6:00. They even stayed a little later (after closing) to wait for me to come pick up my bike. Top notch customer service in my opinion. I have used some other "big name" shops in Ft. Collins work on my bikes in the past. You always have to schedule an appointment 2 weeks out, then they keep your bike for 2 weeks while working on it. So I bought a 300.00 kids giant mountain bike from here they say you get a free tune up within 30days, we took my sons bike in after the chain kept getting jammed between the frame and the last little gear and the handle bars were lose for the "free 30 day tune up" and they end up charging you for it... irritating I hate liars. read more

Anyway the reason breakaway is great is because of their bike tech named marty. He knows what he's doing and won't BS you like the owner *might. I have been wanting to buy a mountain bike for a few years, and a friend had mentioned to me he had bought his from "some shop off Eisenhower and Wilson". I'm the sort of guy who always spends 5x longer researching than actually acting. After browsing online reviews from various mediums, I decided to give this place a shot. When I arrived, I was greeted by Marty (one of the co-owners). I told him I was thinking about making a purchase. I let him know that I am somewhat new to mountain biking, where I wanted to take it, and what I wanted to do. He didn't automatically throw the most expensive bike at me, in fact he did quite the opposite. After answering my onslaught of questions, and giving me a solid foundation of knowledge to build from (they really know their stuff)- I test drove a couple bikes and found one that was perfect for me. He also set me up with everything (equipment and knowledge wise) that was handy for hitting the trails. This place has helped me develop my interest in MTBing into another passion of mine. It didn't take me long to dirty up the bike, and damage a few things on it. Breakaway cleaned, tuned, and fixed everything that was covered by warranty. When at the register, I whipped out my wallet expecting a stack of service charges. To my surprise, I did not end up owing anything. I actually felt a little guilty because I felt it was worth some cash. This place has been nothing but amazing for me, and I tell all my friends about them. this is my first Yelp review, and the only reason why I'm doing it is because I feel they are everything a true shop should be and they deserve credit for it. read more

Great selection of bikes from the cheap to expensive. For a small store, they outperform the the bigger two chain stores and have superior mechanics. Since they are small, you have to wait a bit for help, but once you have one of the salespeople, you actually have someone that knows what they are talking about. Since Giant has the best bang for the buck (great quality with lower prices with better components), my family has bought 6 bikes there. (2 kids bikes, 2 nice mountain bikes, a carbon fibre road bike and a triathlon bike). They also have a kid's bike upgrade program if you want your kids to have a bike that is nice and don't want to keep buying new bikes as they get bigger. read more
