Breakaway Physical Therapy Recovering from surgery to replace a knee, I wanted to work with a physical therapist that was focused on my recovery, an athlete, and understood the frustration of learning to live with a period of very limited mobility, and would be able to communicate, in a way that could be heard, that the recovery was going to be an enormous amount of work. Speaking with Alan, I appreciated his candor about what would be involved, and the level of commitment that would be required. Working hard, and responding to what must have seemed like (to him), endless questions, his patience was never short, and he never sacrificed my therapy time to just talk. With a clear-eyed focus on posture and placement while I exercised, and letting me know when I was making progress, always made the experience a little less daunting and painful. I especially appreciated that, from day one, he provided a sheet of exercises that I could do at home, that were enormously helpful, and on my last appointment, provided links to vendors that were reasonably priced, that would be able to provide some of the equipment that I had been using in his studio, that I could use at home. After undergoing "assembly line" PT after a knee surgery, I decided that my newly painful spine herniation needed something much better--and Alan Snyder was it! He gave me his full time and attention for the hour (compared to previous experiences with PTs who would scarcely glance over to check on me while working with several patients simultaneously). Also, he is incredibly knowledgeable and fun! He made decreasing my back pain and regaining mobility an enjoyable experience, rather than a stressful ordeal. Alan taught me many useful stretches and ways to reduce pain as well as ways to be mindful of how I move, exercise, etc. in order to keep pain at a minimum. He has a great sense of humor and is kind and thoughtful when working with patients. These traits make ALL the difference when you are in physical pain! Alan is an experienced, personable young man, who makes physical therapy into an art. He takes care of you and only you for the entire hour, both on a table and in a gym with a many exercises and modalities. I came to him with a variety of aches and pains, mostly due to arthritis, and left with a more flexible body, pain-free knees and many exercises to take home with me to continue to strengthen my knees and back. I can't speak highly enough about Alan Snyder at breakaway PT. He has been working with my husband who has had major heart surgery to regain strength and balance. Alan is very knowledgeable and has a great temperament. He recognized my husbands strengths and weaknesses and offered diverse exercises in addition to the stander-ed set of exercises given to heart patients. Very often he changes the exercises to keep my husband on his toes and try new exercises with confidence. My husband found the sessions challenging and not boring. I highly recommend Dr. Alan Snyder to anyone looking for an excellent physical therapist. Alan begins each session by asking about the location of your pain and how it has affected daily activities. Alan listens - really listens. Then, using his life-sized skeleton (complete with a baseball cap), Alan explains the probable causes of pain, and indicates the areas to be worked on. He is compassionate and focused. Each session includes stretches, ultrasound, hands-on massages, and exercises on the machines in the building's gym. Alan is is a pleasure to work with. Had excellent physical therapy with Alan at Breakaway Physical Therapy. He was professional and personable making the experience physically challenging in a good way, but as pleasant as it could be. I had a right knee replacement this summer and required extensive PT from a neighborhood Physical Therapist. I reached out to Alan at Breakaway Physical Therapy following Micro fracture surgery on my left knee. I was very nervous at first as I had never had surgery or crutches before, but Alan quickly made me feel at ease. Alan Snyder is the best! I had ongoing issues with pain in my knees that other PT did not help. Alan explained what was happening, gave me exercises and explained WHY he was giving me those exercises. Over time he added more exercises. The PT is over, and I still do the exercises (because I know why I'm doing them...) and the knee pain is gone. Alan is amazing! I went to him for a nagging sports injury that just wouldn't go away. I found him super-knowledgeable and professional.
