The front office staff is completely disrespectful, rude and disorganized. They don't know what you're there for and which appointment is which. I basically felt like I was a pushover and "just another number". The minute you walk into the place it feels like time stopped for them in 2007.. I think I even saw a magazine the from 2012.. that's beside the point. I am about 4 months and everything was going fine until I got a call from the office saying I missed an appointment early on that day. I immediately asked how is this possible, I only scheduled one appointment that was two weeks away. Grace who was on the phone continued to argue with me saying I definitely missed it so I continued to defend myself and say I never missed an appointment nor was I ever late. She said "you missed it and that's that". Knowing I am pregnant and obviously stressed and super uncomfortable and didn't care to diffuse the situation instead kept arguing. She finally said there's an opening tomorrow and I can come in. I agreed and hung up the phone in an even more stressed out state. But it was settled. A few minutes later I get a phone call from the nurse Shirley who by the way pretty much runs the place and often plays "doctor". She immediately says she doesn't like the way the phone call went with Grace at the front desk and wanted me to apologize if I wanted to continue going there . I quickly said no thanks and hung up. She then tried calling again and again until finally she left a nasty voicemail asking how I'd like my medical record sent. This was below the line !!! I started thinking about what just happened and was in total disbelief. Did they forget I am the patient? That I am pregnant and stress should be eliminated? So if I did miss an appointment and maybe forgot to write it down was that a reason to act the way they did? Terrible!!!! I am now in the middle of my term and have to start all over... that's stress !!! I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Viscarello once, it took 2 hours to see him. Yes that's how long you have to wait to see a doctor, after months if going there. So my suggestion stays.... Keep away

From the front staff who was incredibly sweet and accommodating to my work days/hours to get me all the appointments I needed (the last 6 weeks of pregnancy I had to go 2X per week!), to the ultrasound techs who spent the time to ask the right questions and even take the time to get me some GREAT photos, to the nurses who made you feel so comfortable and took the time to get to know you personally, to Shirley and Dr V who I can't say enough wonderful things about... when I first met Dr V it was when I was pregnant with baby number 2 that ended in the miscarriage due to medical complications. Dr V saw me the very next day and spent the whole night doing research and reading up on situations like mine bc it was so rare. THAT is the kind of doctor he is. He came to my appointment PREPARED. Ready to help me, make me feel at ease, and give me his best treatment recommendation when no other doc knew how to proceed. With my pregnancy with Skylar (7 weeks ago), Shirley made the decision to deliver on the spot with the information from my appointment that day. Because she did, my daughter is alive today! They were always timely for appointments and it was great getting to know each midwife. The support staff was wonderful as well, helping with any billing or scheduling questions. While I had planned for a natural birth at the center, I ended up going to the hospital. The midwives were very supportive and even visited me everyday during my stay. I'm actually a bit sad that my care for this pregnancy is over, but I definitely know who I'll be turning to for the next one! I couldn't have chosen better providers.

Con's Sometimes appointments would be delayed due to lack of staff. Sue, an admin, was speaking and answering my questions as if she was my doctor and she is an administrator with no medical license. It was extremely inappropriate and what she said could've hurt my child's well being if I did not bring this to my midwife's attention. It took them over one year from my first appointment to process my first visit payment. Which I was told my insurance would roll over and cover - which it did not- I was happy to pay it but I wanted documentation of the rejection since it was over a year. Sue was hostile when I had asked for this and said "but you said you would pay". Asking for documentation shouldn't be a problem if the insurance denied it: she ended up sending me proof, after being extremely defensive, which I then paid promptly. Midwives: Overall liked them but note taking was wrong at times and they thought I had a breeched baby, and I had to confirm with Danbury hospital why notes at their facility differentiated at the midwives office. Con's of Midwife Laura is unprofessional and has a "one size fits all" mentality when it comes to pregnancy. If you do not fit textbook definitions she will argue with you about it. She was wrong with my diagnosis of Gestational Diabetes since I am thin, and textbook says it's only in obese people or pre-existing conditions. When I spoke to Cathy about my issues here, with Laura and Sue - she had mentioned twice I should go elsewhere if I do not follow their policy which is to be open to working with all their midwives when they are "on call". She said when booking in office appointments I can book which ever midwife I liked. I had expressed what happened with Laura and Sue which is why she said this. I had spoke to Cathy about how her expressing this twice made me feel uncomfortable being in her care. Since I was following their rules. I mentioned I would be open to Laura if she was on call, but she was not a good fit for my pregnancy due to her one size fits all mentality and mannerisms. When it came to my birth I felt misguided, especially as a first time mom. No one went over the contraction process with me, and the labor stages latent and active. I had called several times, for days when I was in labor and was told to come in when it was closer to two minute contractions. Birth experience I was seen at 10:30PM, after driving an hour. Cathy was alone, the house and facility was dark and she told me since I was 4cm dilated I had two options- go to the hospital- she will do the paper work for me or go home. I was in shock and quiet when she said this. In this moment I was processing how we were alone here, no nurses to help, and she came to send me away anyway. The facility was dark, it was just her, my partner and I. She then filled the silence by saying to me "this is not a competition". In that moment I told her I am going to the hospital. I never went back to this office after that. I did not do a follow up either. Cathy was ok sending me back home, where I could have given birth on the road in an hour long drive, where as Danbury Hospital took me right away and helped me. If I had booked Danbury hospital instead of this place, my birth would've gone smoother, and less energy wasted. I was extremely tired after waiting for days. This set me up for failure and a long delivery process. Looking back on this: This place only accepts people who have fast births under 6 hours or less. It's in their fine print too. They take credit for births that happen in the hospital. Most of their patients are transferred to the hospital. I would overhear their staff while waiting for my appointments about the transfers. This place should not be accepting clients with herniated discs, which I had disclosed to them. They set me up for failure when I needed an epidural and a hospital. They should have been honest with me about that instead of taking my money. I was not a candidate for a birthing center from the beginning.

We had trouble from the start getting our son to latch (first time parents). We had an amazing experience working with Empowered Beginnings (Ashley & Dawn) as our duals. They recommended Irene as our lactation consultant. We didn't start with Irene right away. My wife didn't think it would be necessary. Let me tell you from watching breastfeeding is a skill that is learned. After having a rough 2 weeks trying and my wife fearing feeding due to the nipple pain we called Irene. We had a virtual "in home" lactation visit that was life changing. The details: 1. She was very accessible and accommodating with availability. 2. It was a simple FaceTime because that worked for us. 3. She was polite, pleasant, accommodating and skilled at coaching. She understood how my life listened and interpreted instruction. 4. Very Very through! Informative and had a ton of answers for things we didn't know to ask as new parents. Also mind you my wife and I read multiple books and took an online course. We weren't going in blind, but Irene's background of expertise is so through she knows what is not expected. 5. The FB community and basic child development support services set her apart 100%. Needless to say my wife went from being discouraged and not thinking she could fulfill her dream of breastfeeding for the first year to being optimistic. Now it wasn't one and done. My wife still struggled from time to time with getting the hang of it. Irene was there for follow up and continued support. If you are preparing or struggling with breastfeeding look no further. If you think you need in person her virtual service is perfect. Mom and baby are the physical team Irene is the wisdom and eyes to coach through the hurdles. Needless to say.... Was not pushy (which many times people are related to breastfeeding) and listened to what my goals were and talked me through that. And we were amazed with Katie, the Lactation Consultant. she has decades of experience, she CHANGED our world!! we brought in our 5 day old baby and she completely turned me around with her knowledge base. I brought him in with me and nursed him with her help so that she could observe. She reframed so much of what the hospital told me generically and tailored it to me and our son based on how and what she saw. and she was spot on! he was happier, less frustrated and trusted me to read his cues correctly and get what he needed. it was an instant fix, I can't get enough of her!! She makes herself available by phone too if tou can't make it to her in person. She and Dr. Stephen are in this with you every step, honestly we couldn't have asked for more caring human beings to help guide us.

She is someone my 13 year old daughter looks up to and my 7 year old son wants to marry. I trust her and when it comes to your kids that is something you need to have for peace of mind.
