Dillon Reservoir, sometimes referred to as Lake Dillon, is located in Summit County, Colorado, south of I-70 and bordered by the towns of Frisco, Silverthorne, and Dillon. It is a reservoir for the city of Denver, and its waters are under the control of Denver Water. Popular ski areas are close to the reservoir, including Copper Mountain, Keystone, Arapahoe Basin, and Breckenridge. During the winter months, ice fishing and snowmobiling are common activities. For warmer months, the towns of Dillon and Frisco each have marinas on the reservoir. The Dillon Marina is open pretty much during the season and hundreds of sailboats can be seen docked or sailing. Due to Dillon Reservoir's proximity to the towns of Dillon, Silverthorne, and Frisco, the lake has many lodging, camping, and RV facilities. The reservoir has a popular 18 miles paved bike path that winds around the entire reservoir. The path can be accessed at any point around the reservoir. Lots of equipment and a good selection of kettle bells. It can get busy at peak times. Convenient hours especially on weekdays. Parking lot can get busy.

They have a water slide that they allow younger children to go with adults on and it's quite fast. There's a hot tub area, a lab pool area, as well as a climbing wall in the swimming area for older children. They also have a steam room and a sauna. Changing area looks like it was done relatively recently. It's quite nice. They have men's room, a women's locker room and a communal room which is perfect for families with small children. If Keystone or Breckenridge area I would definitely be checking that out again.

She made us feel safe and comfortable from the very beginning, and gave clear instructions so we always knew what to do. She tailored our ride to how "spicy" we wanted to make it, so since it was our first time rafting, that made us feel great. The trip was the perfect level of excitement for us as beginners. It was fun, thrilling, and adventurous without ever feeling overwhelming. My sons, ages 10 and 13, had an absolute blast and want to plan another trip back. We even got to see a bald eagle along the river, it was phenomenal. The weather was perfect, and the whole experience was incredibly well organized. It's also just under two hours from Denver, making it a great day trip. We really appreciated the free parking, and they kept our car keys safely in the office while we were out on the river. We felt completely comfortable leaving everything else locked in our car. We couldn't have asked for a better first rafting experience. We would absolutely recommend them to anyone, especially families and first-time rafters. Definitely opt for the photo package too - the pictures we received were stunning and memorable. Couldn't have been any easier as was on the water in minutes to meet up with my friends who jump on the lake from the boat ramp. They had free lockers to keep your backpack in + free waterproof bags in case you wanted to take your phone with you or any other valuable. Was a perfect calm morning and Dylan was great helping take the board in once we were done. Glad we chose them as we were sure which part of the lake to rent from or where to go, being from out of town. Sure you might have more islands to paddle around if rented on the Frisco side, but we loved being the only ones around in the late morning and had a great time paddling across to the shore + down and around the first inlet. Couldn't have been happier + 2 hrs gives you a lot more time that you think. Plenty of time. A quick reminder that the rental shack is at the end of the marina after you walk past the public restrooms and other little shops.

First and foremost, please disregard the incorrect reviews that talk about dinner service, wait…read morestaff, etc. Those reviews are incorrectly attached to Outpost Lodge when they were meant for Keystone's restaurant Alpenglow Stube in the same building. Outpost Lodge is your run of the mill ski lodge on top of a mountain, i.e. cafeteria, incredibly expensive, warm. I'd give it 3.5 stars if I could, but can't go to four for two reasons: 1) The bathrooms, while nice and with warm water at the sinks, are down two flights of stairs, which makes for a painful and dangerous trek when wearing ski boots. 2) I can take high prices, or inadequate seating, but not both. If you're going to charge $10 for a beer, $7 for a cookie, $25+ for a typical lunch, then at least have enough seating capacity to accommodate your lunch surge. It's pretty frustrating to get a hot bowl of admittedly good fresh soup, only to stand around until it's cold waiting for a seat to open up. As far as the food options go, this lodge is actually pretty good with selection. They have all the carbs you could want between a candy bar and bakery area with fresh / warm cookies, brownies, breads, etc. They have the typical grilled options (burgers, chicken, etc.) They have a very good soup selection that comes in huge bowls to fill you up and warm you up. You will pay for it of course, you're on the top of a mountain, but hey, it's still half the price of the food served at Amalie Arena in Tampa. The real issue is seating at peak times; you'll never find any. If you're hopefully in a party of more than one, I'd recommend finding seats first, and having one person keep your seats and gear safe, while the other gets the food, because otherwise you're going to be standing around while your food goes from hot to cold.

It's definitely a large operation. Check in for us involved a 100 people or so. But they've got it down. Don't plan to bring much/anything with you honestly. You can choose wet suits, dry jackets etc... It was 75 degrees in July here so our family split between wet suits and dry jackets. The latter was the better choice. You take a 30 minute school bus ride and some quick safety instructions (thanks Erico!) And then get assigned to your boat. Ours included 8 of us and a guide. Honestly that was too much but okay. Our guide was Tristan who was fantastic. Funny and engaging with fun facts along the way. But more importantly you could tell he was taking safety seriously. We did the browns canyon ride and it was a good mix of slightly challenging for the kids and fun for the adults. All in all it was a great way to spend half a day!

Guides: Tim & Colleen *We went in August*…read more - W H A T T O E X P E C T - We booked ahead of time, online, for the "Cliffside Zipline Half Day" in Idaho Springs. They have multiple locations and have similar and different activities that you can do at each location. When we arrived we walked in through the building on the right (it looks like a store), and checked in. After checking in, we had to wait for a bit until our guides were ready. Once they were, we went into the building to the left and received our gear. For the ziplining portion, our equipment was a harness and a helmet. *Each of the helmets has cute and/or funny names, definitely spend the time and look through the names. For example: They have an adult one that says: Potato and a child one that says: Little Tater Once we were all put on our equipment, our guides, Tim & Colleen, double-checked to make sure we each had our equipment on correctly and securely. Snug, but not too snug. After checking our equipment, Tim started to read a disclaimer and some rules to follow while we were up on the zipline. Heads up: - NOTHING IN YOUR POCKETS IS SAFE - If you have any glasses or hats, leave them in your car. Wear contacts if you have to, or put the little ropes that can be connected to your glasses to catch them in case they fall off your face. - There is a wooden board with hooks to hang your car keys. They assured us that hanging the keys there are safe. There is only one road, and anyone that tries to steal a vehicle won't get very far down the one road before a police officer stops them. :) You are ziplining on the cliffside of the mountain. If you do not have pockets that zip/button closed, don't put anything in them. If anything falls down the cliff, no one is going to go and get it. It's too dangerous. Personally, I had prepared and worn my contacts - but I will probably wear glasses with the ropes next time. We went in August, and it was still chilly in the mountains. Some of the ziplines go pretty fast, so my eyes would water. I had a jacket with zipper pockets, so I was the designated picture taker in my group. I was able to keep my phone safe by putting it in my zipper pocket. After going through safety and the disclaimer, we jumped onto the bed of a truck, clipped ourselves in, and road all the way up to the mountain. After you get off the truck, there is a narrow trail you have to take to get to the first platform. It is a dirt trail, and it's on the side of the mountain. Important... don't be stupid. :) I'm personally terrified of falling from tall heights, so I had to take my time and not look down to my right. It was fine, it wasn't dangerous. It's just one of my greatest fears. (Hence facing them by ziplining!) - E X P E R I E N C E - If you can request two guides... Request Tim & Colleen! It is very apparent how much they love their job. Tim was the main guide, he has been doing this job for a very long time. They both made the whole experience so much fun. Their excitement, personalities, and overall energy made this a very unique and memorable experience. They were silly and fun, while still making sure we all were and felt safe. We are hoping to come back and be able to ask for both of them again. :) - P A R K I N G - They have plenty of parking spaces in their lot, the parking is a bit rough though - so be careful when driving in and out of the parking lot. - O V E R A L L - We all had a great experience, Colleen & Tim We had 5 people in our group, two of us had ziplined before, and three of us were doing it for the first time. Luckily for him, Clint was a skilled first aid provider and easily removed the hook. While we did hall in a school of fish historians will chronicle, the blame resides on us as fishermen versus the gear and instruction. July 24, 2026 - Silverthorne, CO…read more We first stayed at Heaton Bay Campground about seven years ago, so we were looking forward to camping right along the water again. Unfortunately, because of the severe drought and low winter snowpack, Dillon Reservoir is currently about 20 feet below its normal level. Our campsite was no longer waterfront, but we had a short hike down to what is now more like a small pond. There are a few more drawbacks, too. There isn't a nearby dump station or an RV water fill, although there are water spigots for filling jugs. Campfires were prohibited during our stay because of the high fire danger, and you can hear some traffic noise from the nearby highway. Even with those disappointments, I still give this campground five stars. Why? Because, the campsites themselves are outstanding. They're spacious, private, and thoughtfully laid out, with plenty of room between sites. The views of the surrounding mountains are absolutely spectacular, and the campground has a peaceful, wooded setting that's hard to beat. If you're looking for a scenic campground with large sites and don't mind the lack of full amenities, Heaton Bay is an excellent choice. We'd happily stay here again.
