Unfortunately, I was one of the many others who fell for Brenda's scheme to rake in as many deposits as possible without actually fulfilling on her side of the agreement - a puppy. I WISH I SAW THE YELP REVIEWS! I reached out in March 2021 after speaking to many other breeders. Brenda seemed legit with a contract and clear process and initial quick communication about a litter that had just been born....However, things QUICKLY changed after I put down a $500 deposit and signed the contract for a puppy that would be ready in May 2021 ("first on the waitlist"). However as May approached, she was radio silent for weeks (email, phone, text, FB) and encouraged me to instead look for updates on her FB page. She said that sadly there weren't enough females in May but a new litter would be ready to visit in June and that I should come for a puppy meet and greet in mid-June. So I booked a flight to Seattle, confirmed my flight details with her. And then asked for more specifics leading up to it....3 weeks, 2 weeks, and days out......crickets. No response until the day before when she had to cancel the visit entirely for "cold weather." uhm 55 degrees outside in June in WA. Surprise, surprise at that point there weren't any "more puppies." But 5 litters would be born in July. At this point hearing about FIVE litters sounded more like a puppy mill than I was comfortable with. I understand there being a long list for puppies because you are breeding less frequently, and concerned for the health of your dogs. But at this point DO NOT TAKE DEPOSITS on puppies you do not have OR can't possibly have in the next 2-3 years. I'm guessing Brenda received dozens of non-refundable deposits that she can't fulfill for YEARS to come. In July, I found a local breeder and welcomed an adorable new Boston to my family. DO NOT BUY A DOG FROM THIS BREEDER...RUN! Long review...but worth the read. No one should have to go through what my family and I have gone through. We got our puppy from Brenda this past year and when I arrived to her property I was immediately skeptical. Brenda has anywhere from 20-30 puppies on that property at any given time. The property is far from clean. Initially our puppy seemed perfectly fine and healthy but within a day we noticed he had drainage coming from his nose. We took him to our family vet where it was identified that he had an upper respiratory infection and he was prescribed antibiotics. For a while after that our puppy seemed fine. As time went on we noticed our puppy had some issues with bowel movements (loose stools). Fast forward to the past few weeks. Our puppy started having uncontrollable diarrhea and vomiting. We tried everything to help him, unfortunately many emergency vets told us this wasn't necessarily an emergency so it was hard to get him seen. We finally were able to get an appointment with our family vet, however the night before his appointment he took a hard turn for the worse. Our puppy started staggering around like he was intoxicated and was unable to stand or control his eye movements. We rushed him to an emergency vet and essentially demanded he be seen. After a stomach scan they discovered his stomach was filled with fluid and they decided to keep him overnight to assess him since he was also experiencing neurological symptoms. The next morning the neurologist performed an MRI and informed us that our puppy had an extensive amount of swelling around his brain and that they needed to perform a spinal tap to determine the underlying cause. We are still awaiting the results of the spinal tap, but he's been diagnosed with meningoencephalitis. The condition is either caused by a parasitic bacteria, viral infection, or an immune disorder. If this proves to be something he can overcome he will have to be on medication for the rest of his life. As of right now our puppy is still in the hospital and does not have the ability to stand or walk. We have spent over $6,000 in vet bills so far trying to give our little guy a fighting chance. Based on the vet's assessment and how much his condition has worsened in a seemingly short period of time, he has been living with this disease for a long time. Based on research it is possible for puppies to remain asymptomatic for weeks to months. Brenda is breeding SICK puppies. She claims they all have regular vet visits before they go to their new homes, but based on what I've read here and my own personal experience I'm curious as to how her vet overlooked so many sick puppies. My original review on our first gave a 5 star- I have since deleted that as the 2nd go around went much different I had a Ok experience the first go around but River's parents she owned were not ones directly from her breeding, I think explain a lot. It could have been better but it wasn't horrible, this is when others started to experience the stolen deposit. I ignored the flags and proceeded for a 2nd Boston from her because River is such an amazing dog, great temperament and smart. We are in Spokane so we have a drive to and from. I was VERY (can't stress that enough) clear about depositing down: 1st pick (except breeder pick) black and white female. I was shown the black on white week 1. A week to pick up with all the liters it was hard to see which one was ours- they grow a lot in that time frame. I asked for a updated photo, she sent a video in poor lighting that gave the appearance of a black and white dog (the one we have now) we drove 5.5 hours to pick up, it was rainy that day so the blanket was over the dog, her leg peaked through and I said, that is not black and white, she is brindled. She then proceeded to tell me, she was seal: gives a black and white appearance but in certain lighting you see a reddish contrast. Seals are nearly double the price of the standard, but because we were return customers she won't up charge us. She said we had 2 other females if we wanted to see them- she came back out to our truck with 2 more brindled females my husband asked about black and white which she said she didn't have, he was ready to say forget it and leave without the dog but would leave the choice up to me- I knew we would not get a deposit back and felt our trust in her was broken and we would not get a future dog from her should we come back at a later time- this trip was a waste of time and gas and we would not want to have it happen again just to be screwed over. I opted to take the dog she originally brought out. She returns to the truck with paper work and the medication stating her dad's dog tested positive for Gardia, but not to worry because all of her dogs and puppies were tested and they were all negative, but out of caution they we're treating prophylactic to be safe this was never disclosed to us during any of our conversations before the trip, including the morning of when I updated her of our departure/arrival time: according to her the puppy has 2 doses so far and I was to give the remaining- the metronidazole tablet for a dog that size was huge, there was no way to safely give the tablet to her without trauma or choking the puppy. I know because that was exactly what it was like trying to force it into the back of her throat unsuccessfully each time. I took her to our vet and they agreed that a dog that size should not have been given tablets and instead it should have been liquid form (though both have an unpleasant taste). We redid the gardia test: Aspen came back positive for exposure but negative for active parasite. We did another round of dewormer just to be safe. About a month into that I noticed some hair loss, very small tiny patches on the top of head- took her back to the vet:demodex which they think it was 1 orf 2 issues that caused it to be present: immature immune system. Did treatment which worked. Now there is also the supposed birthday of Aspen: she came from T'iarahs litter: which on Facebook it was posted as being February 21 (repeat of the past 2 Mondays of Stella (Feb 9th litter) and Penelope (February 14th). Yet the paper given to us listed Feb 14, I do not believe that is their date. When we picked up on April 16th her date would have placed the puppy at 8 weeks, but based on FB post put the puppy at 7 weeks. She was very small even at 7 weeks. She was not eating well on solid puppy kibble which had to still be softened. She had no potty training whatsoever ever. She was very timid: personality vastly different from our 1st Boston. I do not believe that the attention was given on the 2nd round the way it was given on our first. Later someone that got from the same litter posted the puppy they got, the black and white we were originally promised. Either she is that unorganized or Brenda was offered more for them to get the black and white and she took it. Either one could be true in this case, but then was never honest with us and allowed us to take a 5.5 hour drive there (11 hour drive round trip) and tried to pass on a "seal" colored Boston as though we were getting the better end of the deal. Aspen is clearly brindled, visible to the naked eye, there is nothing seal about her coat. case of bait and switch. She claimed in one of her Yelp comments that she doesn't sell transparency in her contracts? That is exactly what you as a breeder should be selling, honesty and integrity to your program, without it then you are deceiving everyone, lying to us all about the quality of your dogs. which given the reviews. read more

I am updating this today with a heavy heart. I found a facebook page the showed that Ophelia is in fact alive. This woman lied to me and told me this poor dog died during a procedure to pull 8 bad teeth. Ophelia had been over breed at that time and is still being used to breed. I am beyond myself that there are not better laws or procedures in place to prevent such cruelty. Cruelty to the animals but also the humans, how do you lie about a dog passing away. ‼Do not give this person a dime!!! ‼Seven weeks ago we "re-homed"/purchased a six month old Boston Terrier from Brenda. Immediately we discovered he had severe diarrhea. Within two or three days we had to take him to the vet and found out that he had Giardia. It's been seven weeks and he and my other dog (that he gave it to) are on their THIRD round of meds. A few weeks ago when I reached out to Brenda I discussed what was going on and that she knowingly sold me a puppy that was sick because she had admitted before that she was treating ALL her dogs for Giardia. We were very frustrated and really wanted to give Rudy a good home. So, I messaged her and asked if she would at least give us back the money for his vet bills, which are now over $500. She refused, was very ugly and rude about the whole thing. I told her I was going to write a yelp review, and then she said she was a federal employee, and had access to good lawyers and was going to sue me for threatening her online. She continued to berate me, saying she knew I was gonna be trouble from the beginning of this process and that I was unstable. I told her what she could do with her money AND herself so she blocked me so I couldn't contact her anymore. I will also add that when we drove two hours to pick up Rudy, he smelled godawful. She didn't even have the courtesy to give him a bath before we came and picked him up PLUS the conditions where these dogs (and there's A LOT of them) are living is horrific. It's just feces, mud and disgusting outside conditions. The State should really check her business out. After everything, Rudy is still recovering and getting better day by day and he is such a joy and is fitting into our family wonderfully and he and Butterbean absolutely love each other. It was done two weeks ago they sent the spinal fluid to California labs it came back that she has meningitis and hopefully it is the lining of the brain not the brain itself. Brenda got us this little Cutie 1 1/2 years ago. While we were on the list for a while. We didn't get many updates as to where we were on her list. We did get our puppy. She admits she got me mixed up with someone else and apologized "saying that's not how she does business." She said she would return my money on 8/31/2020 and still hasn't. Feel free to take a chance on your money but there very little recourse in getting your money back since she doesn't reply to the small claims. She says she's going to take me to court because I'm telling the truth I have never threatened this woman I just would like my money back at this point after almost a year. Dear Brenda Curtis, It has been 138 days since I placed a deposit on puppy #3 Alice's litter. I consider myself a kind, patient person and I believe that my messages and text messages over the last few months have reflected such. When you sent your contract to me on April 27,2020, I was glad I found a breeder that spelled out the values and moral character that I would choose to bring my new family member into the world. You stated the following in your contract, and I think it may be time to reassess your descriptions. Trustworthy- You have not kept your promises, honor your word, or kept me an active member while awaiting my puppy. (I have history of messages/texts over the last 138 days) Professional- I have not been treated professionally, I have been ignored repeatedly and your daughter sent some very demeaning texts the most recent one from Wednesday, September 9, 2020 calling me "a trip".  I have also seen many other nasty communications from customers with similar stories as mine, they have been blocked and labeled "harassing" for simply requesting updates on the status of their puppies that they were in contract with. This to me is far from professional. Dependable- Timely, honest, straightforward communication goes along way in life. You are constantly posting on social media to be kind, yet you do not seem to follow the same etiquette in life. We had a great experience adopting a Boston Terrier in March 2024. When we expressed initial interest in February, Brenda sent us images of available puppies, we provided preference and, then proceeded with paperwork and deposit. Leading up to our pick-up date, she provided additional videos of our pup, puppy care, and food info (so we could prepare), and final vet and vaccination info. She sent our pup home with extra food for transition, blankets with sibling smells, and a few other goodies. It was an easy and seamless transition for all of us. In the 6 weeks since bringing our pup home, we found her to be already crate trained overnight (only two nights of whining), a very quick learner to going outside to potty, and overall a wonderful addition to our family. Upon taking her to our vet 2 weeks after her arrival, we found she had giardia, but it is a quick and easy treatment that we had experience dealing with in our previous dog. read more

This business is a scam. Brenda is quick to accept deposits for anticipated litters but she is extremely difficult to communicate with afterwards. The first reviewer described it all accurately. Once a deposit is made she will never commit to a timeline or even announce if a litter is spoken for or not, which gives everyone hope that they are next in line for a puppy. She always has an excuse for poor communication and often attacks customers who ask for direct answers, to the point of claiming them to be fake accounts and then blocking them altogether. Then she ducks and dives and accuses you of being negative or "harassing" her for simply requesting info on what is going on with litters, wait times and where you are on the wait list. I purchased a puppy from Brenda. He is the sweetest puppy. We have only had him fro 4 months and he has ahd giardia the whole time. I took him for a.new puppy exam and they tested him he had it we did medicine for a week and waited and tested again saure enough he has it again. I, unfortunately, have also just had a terrible experience with Brenda. In May, I emailed her to ask if she would have any litters available to go home in July or August, and she promptly responded that she would have 2 litters ready to come home mid august, and another at the end of august, and that I would subsequently have "many to choose from." That was great, and I sent over the deposit and contract immediately. Towards the end of July, I emailed her again to see when we would be able to select our dog (under the impression that we were only a couple of weeks away from having a puppy), and didn't get a response back. August came and went with zero contact from her, so I followed up again in the second week of September to give her a chance to catch me up to speed on a shifting timeline, and also received an empty email with no text in response. At that point, I decided that it was time to find a more communicative breeder since the time frame we had initially agreed on had passed without any indication as to when we'd have a puppy. I sent a polite third email respectfully asking for a return of my deposit, and informing Brenda that it was clear to me I needed to go in a different direction since she was unable to meet the terms of our original agreement. She did respond to that email, in all caps, telling me not to make any assumptions. The only assumption that had been made was that she couldn't keep to the original timeline, which is fairly obvious because that was last month, and that she wouldn't respond to my few and legitimate questions about timeline, which she also had ignored. If I had gotten any communication as to when we could even pick a dog, I would have been happy to wait, but being left in the dark isn't acceptable, and I could have done without the passive aggressive Instagram post and email response to my inquiry. We're honestly extremely disappointed, since we've been looking forward to having this dog all summer, and now we have to start over with a different breeder to be treated with any kind of respect, and we're also down $500 hard earned dollars during a pandemic in which we are essential workers. Just super disappointing, and tears have been shed over this. All in all, this has been stressful, upsetting, and just an extremely bad experience. Just like these these others, was promised a pup that never materialized and I posted that review in the summer of 1999. Somehow that review isn't showing here. Brenda stopped communication after taking our deposit. No word after repeated attempts to contact her. Then we DID get our deposit back but nothing else. No explanation and we were SO hoping for a pup. I feel she started doing this sort of thing about the time we engaged with her, defrauding people. And oh by the way, she is not licensed in Pierce County to have a kennel facility. There are other, more reputable breeders who don't take deposits on unborn pups and who will communicate and who are honest people. Find one of those. (as a side note, she was once disqualified in a dog show arena and then screamed at the judge and stole some else's blue ribbon. This woman is serioulsy impaired mentally). read more

We had a wonderful experience with Brenda. From the beginning of the process of adopting our little Boston, she was communicative, honest and completely transparent about deposits and payment. You could tell how each dog in her care was truly a part of her family and she cared deeply about every one of them. We appreciated how devoted, caring and knowledgeable she was when it came to wait times after the litter was born to ensure that her pups were at their best health, socially and physically before adoption. She had an absolute wealth of knowledge about the breed that she shared with us both when we visited and in the booklet she provided to us to take home. Our little Boston also came potty trained and so happy, well-adjusted and healthy. We couldn't be happier with our Boston who is now 4-years old. He has an incredibly sweet personality and demeanor and is a healthy, goofy and well adjusted little guy who has brought so much joy to our family. He was so lucky to have had such a nurturing and loving start in life thanks to Brenda. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a Boston Terrier. I was very happy with Brenda, the service she provided and the wonderful fur baby I now have. I visited her and the new puppies on the farm in advance to taking Hugo home, and it was great - a large farm property, with about a dozen Bostons, as well a couple rescue dogs and rescue cats. There is a large outdoor fenced and sheltered area for the dogs and they have their own indoor home where they are protected from the elements. She has raised show dogs and does full health checks of all her puppies. I received pics of the puppies including my little nugget as he was growing up, nursing, trips to the vet, all of that. He came home registered, with his papers, and with a blanket that had been in their kennel so had mama's scent. I had nothing like the experience the negative reviews here say. My understanding is she no longer takes deposits (this could change I'm sure, but as of now she communicated she is no longer taking them). I'm sure breeders in general have a hard time finding good and trustworthy homes for their babies, it's can't be easy. I do follow her on FB, and I could understand that she may come across as abrasive, but she loves her dogs and while maybe rough around the edges she's a genuine and nice person, and personally I had a great experience. read more

Brenda is Amazing!!! She answered any and all questions I ever had asap. She kept me updated with pictures and videos of my little girl multiple times a week!! And most importantly I got the most beautiful, healthy, sassy, sweet little boston girl from her!! So grateful to her! read more

just got our third puppy from brenda today and they're perfect and brenda is super nice

I researched for months before choosing a breeder. I really wanted to make sure I knew what I needed to look for before handing my money over to a complete stranger. There's a lot of health testing that needs to be done on Boston Terrier's. During my research I found Brenda's website which checked off all the boxes of the things I was concerned about and more. We live several states away- which was a bummer, but that's how serious I was about getting a good, healthy, and cared for puppy, and I do not regret going with her one bit. Our dog is now 2 1/2 yrs old and from day one I could tell he was well cared for. He came with one last health check, a welcome kit, a kennel, collar, a little blankie that smelled like home, and some medicine to help him on our long drive home in case he needed it. I was also able to follow his progress on her FB page which made me feel less nervous about not being able to physically go where he was growing up- I heard it was a good idea to try and see where they are being raised to make sure it's not a BYB. I've watched her put extensive funds into the well being of her puppies and she works hard to keep even the hardest cases alive and eventually thriving. I knew ahead of time what I was getting into with the written agreement I signed and the down payment I offered. I had no problems there. Brenda herself is an energetic and eccentric woman (I mean, she has like 16 Boston's running amok on her property :) ). She does express herself very passionately which I can see being off putting to some, but when it came down to it, she took amazing care of our dog, from shots, feeding, socialization, keeping him clean and healthy, and I'm thoroughly satisfied with our arrangement. read more
