Quaint little winery that is Portuguese family owned. The owner/winemaker was there serving us our tasting and was extremely friendly and welcoming. You could tell he loves what he does and tries to make everyone feel welcome. And he makes great wine too. Some of the choices are very unique and unlike anything I've tasted before. wonderful discovery in Faber - finally! (just learned that they've been there for years), off of RTE 29, close to but thankfully not on 151 (it was quiet!), about 25-mins from Wintergreen and Charlottesville. Portuguese style wines were very good, and a few Virginia staples (Viognier, Cab-franc...) and port "style" wines that were fantastic. beautiful vistas and the wine is good, the owners were wonderful, we took a picnic, had a tasting then several bottles then left left with a hefty box and looking forward to returning soon. read more

This a new winery in the area. It's has gorgeous views and very relaxing. They have a small stage on the grounds for bands. Plenty of seating outside. They have port wine, white wine, & couple sweet wines. The owners run the place and no other help. They are very friendly, knowledgeable about their wine. We had a great time here. We took home some of the port wine. Highly recommend stopping here. You will not be disappointed. Wish they had more of there logo stuff on hand. I decided to visit this wonderful winery with my family when I was in town for vacation. The view is great and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. We tried the wine tasting and the owner explained each wine in detail. Wine tasting was such a great experience to figure out which wine suit our taste. We decided to take home bottles of 2017 Touriga Nacional, it was full bodied, very rich in taste which went really well with New York steak and 2018 Petit Manseng which is smooth with hint of pineapple. If you like Portuguese wines (and who doesn't?), you'll enjoy Brent Manor. For the time being they don't have any mature grape vines, but they do import Portuguese wines wholesale and pour them in the tasting room. They also make a few whites and a chambourcin made with grapes from other VA vineyards; the Sav Blanc was particularly good. The building is on the small side, but is cozy and has a nice view of the hills. But the best part was the hospitality of my hosts (and the winery co-owners) Jorge and Tracie, who were very personable and happy to explain their plans to build a B&B. Jorge is from Portugal, and his family's background is his inspiration for making wine. For my own tasting, they poured wines from several varietals that I'd never heard of before; Padeiro & Tinta Amarela, where have you been all my life? I know their cousins Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz (aka Tempranillo), but I'd never realized how many other family members they have back home. As their tasting menu of 'guest' Portuguese wines is always changing, there will be plenty of opportunities for visitors to expand their palate with grapes that likely won't be found in neighboring vineyards. My one complaint is Jorge won't make a port-style (although he has imported Ports on the tasting menu), because having tasted plenty of 'real' Ports back in Portugal, he's afraid he'd never do one justice here in Virginia. But I love Ports, and I bet he'd make a great one! read more

I liked their lemon crush so much I bought a couple bottles of petit manseng to make it at home. They have their own delicious port-style wine as well as some from Portugal that are delicious. 5 for the wine, the Bloody Mary wine-tail is highly recommended! However, I'd give them a 3 for customer service. Overall, they were friendly enough but they seem to be almost offended we, a party of 8, had the audacity to come without a reservation. The owner met us outside to ask if we'd called ahead, informed us that he usually wouldn't take a party of this size, but since they were slow, he'd accommodate us. Got in the building where he reiterated that his website clearly states no party over 6 without a reservation (which it does, we didn't check because we just googled wineries near us). His wife then chimed in with the same policy, at which point 3 in our party went back outside as to not upset the owners any further. He then went on to give us a very nice tasting, very informative, and not rushed. It's a shame out initial interaction with them was so off-putting. read more

Only one word is necessary, Amazing! My wife and I had a great experience at Brent Manor Vineyards. They are only open Saturday and Sunday so you should make an appointment in advance, as it will be well worth it and glad that you did. Everything was perfect, the views are awesome, they have a great outdoor seating area, its COVID safe, and Jorge the owner who was also our server was such a very nice guy to speak too. All the wines we tasted were great, they offered a flight of 5 wines (2oz per pour) and a souvenir glass for $25 which we did two of. I know thats expensive, but it was well worth it in the end as we ended up buying several bottles. A must stop while in the Charlottesville area. read more

This place is so beautiful and the wine is good. It has so much potential to be one of my favorite places to visit as a Nelsonian myself. But... we were not made to feel welcomed. It was incredibly obvious the lady in the tasting room did not want us there. To be fair, we arrived 35 minutes before closing. But we stopped by as our last stop after an afternoon taking in the beautiful weather and scenery in Nelson County, completely cognizant of the fact that they closed at 5:30 and with zero intention of imposing on their posted closing time. Our goal was to to share the experience with some fellow wine-lovers that were in from out of town. But I won't be back. I'm not a "one and done" type person when it comes to a negative experience. But this was different. We were an annoyance to her, so I'll make sure we do not imposition again. read more

Offering a unique wine product (and an excellent one at that) in a crowded market, Brent Manor Vineyards will only get better with age. Upon hearing of a new winery on the Monticello Wine Trail, my fiancee and I immediately made the five hour drive to Charlottesville to visit the Brent Manor Vineyards. Brent Manor is a small Portuguese boutique winery about twenty minutes south of Charlottesville off Route 29 (nearby wineries include Delfosse, Wisdom Oak, and Pippin Hill). Although we visited in the winter you can tell the winery has a really nice outdoor space among the rows of grapes. Walking inside we were greeted by the winemaker Jorge, who couldn't have been a nicer and more accommodating host. He started making wine years ago, eventually evolving into the vineyard, with a focus on his Portuguese heritage that is evident in all of his wines. He's also an expert on the area, so if you're deciding where to go next be sure to ask him fro recommendations. The tasting is $9 (includes the glass and is waived with three bottle purchase) and in all you try about eight different wines. The Portuguese spin on these wines are mostly Old World with a layer of New World complexity, with grapes grown in VA, WA, and Portugal. Starting with the 2015 Sauvignon Blanc, a crisp white with great acidity and a lot of grapefruit along with a mild fizz. The 2014 Viognier is a nice twist on the VA classic, with that familiar dry crisp citrus taste but with a little bit of a smokey aftertaste. We got our first taste of Portugal, the 2015 Esporao Reserva, with excellent tropical acidity and a little bit of oak. The dry but still fruity 2015 Traminette would make an excellent pairing with any food rich with spice. Transitioning to reds, we were able to try the 2015 Rosado, a fuller-body Rosé that is a blend of Cab Franc, Chambourcin, and "a little bit of Viognier" resulting in an interesting brownish tint to the color and a more woody taste. Now fully in red mode, next was 2015 Tintao, an even full-bodied blend of Chambourcin and Cab Franc, with much more earthy Old World flavors, a smooth texture with a hint of acidity. After all these red blends with Chambourcin, we finally get the 2014 Chambourcin, the most full-bodied of the reds with lots of leather and earthy Old World flavors (it also comes in an awesome clay bottle) and was the best red by far. We ended with the Pachea Tawny Port, a blended fortified red aged in bourbon barrels, it's sweet and alcoholic and will knock you out. Overall, we loved our experience at Brent Manor Vineyard. It can be difficult to stand out in this vineyard-rich region, but Brent Manor succeeds in separating itself from its competition with memorable bold complex flavors. They're already one of the better wineries in the region, and have the potential to become one of the very best. read more

There's a great range at a very reasonable tasting price ($9 including glass), and there's a beautiful view and Adirondack chairs out front. You can taste while seated outside on the patio. Stopped by here after a weekend visit to Caromont Farm hoping for a nice bottle of wine to enjoy with my fresh goat cheese. I hadn't heard of this winery before, but it was only a 10 minute drive or so from the farm and on my way home. Thought I would check it out. So glad I did! The owners are a husband and wife who specialize in making Portuguese wines. The husband is from Portugal. They grow grapes and make half or so of the wines available from their vineyard. The husband conducted our tasting and gave us very interesting information about each wine and the region of origin in Portugal. The wines were all fantastic. I am a fan of Portuguese wines, in general, but these hold their own against any I've tried--even some at much higher price points. The winemaker's passion is apparent and the fact that they both have full time careers and live quite a distance from the winery speaks to their love for this venture. In addition to the wines, you can also purchase a variety of "wine tails". These are popular cocktails made with the Brent Manor wines in place of liquor. Everything from Bloody Mary to Mojito is covered. I opted for a delicious bottle of the Patio Red to accompany my picnic on this day, but will definitely be back to try one of the unique libations. The views are amazing and there is ample seating/tables to while away the afternoon with a beautiful wine. The tasting included off list wines and was a bargain at $9 including the glass. With a three bottle purchase, the fee is waived. I purchased the Vega and Patio Red(2-one was consumed with a lovely picnic outside the tasting room). Every wine was amazing, but a particular standout is the Port. All I can say is get here while it is still a secret!! Before long, this place will be packed all weekend every week. My wife and I frequently visit my daughter who lives in the Charlottesville area of VA. While there, we love visiting the numerous wineries and we are always looking for new ones to try. Recently we went to Brent Manor Vineyards and were pleasantly surprised by this small but enthusiastic upstart. We were greeted by owner Jorge (George) who is extremely passionate about wine in general and especially about those he and his wife make. Jorge's family is originally from Portugal and has always made there own wine for family consumption. Now the family talent is available for the public. There were 9 selections included for the tasting - 7 made by the winery and 2 from Portugal. All nine were so good that we had a hard time deciding which to purchase. All were a bit unique and all were flavorful and smooth. Ultimately we decided on Quinta de Gomariz Alvarinho, Rose, Tinao, and Chambourcin (all made by Brent Manor Vineyards). Regardless if you are familiar with Portuguese wines or not, you must go to this winery for tastings. read more
