After being underwhelmed at the wineries along this route, I was pleasantly surprised by Lazy Days. As the name implies, it was a very 'laid back' place, and I enjoyed more than a few of their wines. They have 9 acres of vines, so they are pretty much all estate grown. They grow a surprisingly large assortment of grapes, including Pinotage (a South African grape), Arneis (an Italian white), Toriga Nationale (a Portuguese grape), Albarino (Spanish), and Gros Manseng (a rare grape from France) - in addition to your 'standard' set. Some of these grapes aren't ready for sale, but will be ready in the future. They even had a Malbec! I didn't take great notes, but I did like the Vidal Blanc and Capuchin Red blend. The Petit Manseng had really strong honey favors. But my favorite was the peach wine, which became a spritzer when water was added. I could drink that all day!

Don and I came here with Tim and Jess. Not a bad price for their complete wine tasting. It was $5. But if you buy a bottle they take off the cost of the tasting. I bought a bottle of the Blackberry Wine and a bottle of their Sweet White which was real tasty with the peach sprtizer added to it. So Don's tasting was free too.

Cozy spot to try a few reds and whites! They are known for their wild blackberry wine which was more of a desert wine to me. I found their red and white blends to be the most appealing and of which I purchased. The sommelier was knowledgable about the wine and local information as well such as breweries and food! I wish they offered more food then a single cheese plate! Otherwise, worth the visit!

We showed up just after they opened and Craig was busy in the back racking wines.

How have I never reviewed Hill Top when I have been going for 8 years?!?…read more I love this place. The servers are knowledge and friendly, and their wines and meads are so unique and well made. You can do a tasting of 8 of their wines and meads for $5, which is a great option if you have never been before. Hill Top is unique because it makes wines out of fruit, so you'll have wine here that you will never had anywhere else. I love their sweet melon wine, hunter's moon mead, and dragon's blood mead, among many others. Hill Top also has a great outdoor seating area where you can watch the goats and working dogs around the farm, with great views.

I have to always put Hill Top on my list when I am in the area. I ended up leaving with 12 bottles of wine and a jar of the wild flower honey. I wish they'd attend Norfolk VA wine festival again, I miss them so much! Emily "The traveling nurse", ended up assisting us during our time there. She was very welcoming, upfront and honest with her recommendations for our 2 flights that we selected. We chose from meads and berry wines as well. Emily didn't steer us wrong at all. After ordering we sat outside and enjoyed the breeze. Both flights came with oyster crackers and chocolate covered almonds. The Lavender and Persimmons was my fave selection. However, I couldn't pass up an opportunity to snag some bottles of Madison to go. The goats on site were too cute as well! I wish they'd attend Norfolk VA wine festival again, I miss them so much!

We were also told the owner/event manager would be on hand for help the day of. She seemed to forget who I was after meeting with me multiple times, but no biggie. I'm sure she meets lots of people. What was really not okay was that when we showed up to set up our event, the area was NOT cleaned and there was nobody to be found. There was dust and dirt everywhere that took an hour to clean before even being able to set up, a gross dead bug graveyard in the sitting area floor, it smelled musty, and overall was just not up to the standard they advertised. The owner nor any staff showed up at any point. We were not greeted, we were not helped, and it was just kind of a "okay good luck" situation. Also, the "AC" was on 75 on a hot May day. After paying the second half of the $550 fee, I didn't hear from the event manager other than a text asking what time I'd be in. Afterwards, nobody checked on us or the space. Never even heard from them to get a "thank you for renting our space" or "I'm sorry I wasn't available today"... To pay $550, you'd expect to get what you pay for. As a local, I will NOT be renting there for any other party I host nor trying out their B&B if the service is anything like this experience has been. Next time, we'll pay $550 for a nicer place on 151.
