One of the best spots for sunset. Especially when it is partly cloudy, you get a nice show in the sky for sunset. Peep my pictures. Plenty of parking but it was also packed, even during cold December. There is a nice walking area. You can walk into the rocks by the water. It is fantastic. Great date spot out even to hang out. 10 out of 10 would recommend this spot, especially for sunsets but come early as parking can fill up. read more

A great location at the end of the Newport peninsula. Wide open lawns for kite flying and other games. Great views of the ocean and rocks to scramble on with some small beach areas depending on the tide. But... there is not much else in terms of facilities including bathrooms. Just a couple Porta potties. We noticed that people were using the big areas of bushes as toilets... Yuck! There were a couple food trucks and kite vendors. This park did not and no longer benefits from the wealthy residents who live/lived in the nearby mansions. read more

Awesome plenty of parking lots of places to picnic food trucks, and adventure and access to the water if you want it. Unfortunately there are two porta potties. They are disgusting. The building with the washrooms is closed and boarded up. There's toilet paper everywhere. Nasty. read more

My wife and I were doing a coastal drive down and stumbled upon Brenton Point during sunset. Beautiful area and perfect place to see the sunset. Lots of people were tailgating and enjoying the scenery at the massive parking lots they have. We didn't stop, but enjoyed the ride around there and taking in the oceanside scenery. We noticed they have a Discovery Monument there as well, which was well-maintained and impressive to see. read more

While on a trolly tour we passed this state park and knew we had to go back to check it out. The views of the ocean are beautiful and you could easily stay for the afternoon and just chill and enjoy the views. There are several things to observe and learn about. We enjoyed a long walk while watching the waves crash along the rocks. read more

Go fly a kite... Or bring a picnic lunch or just drive through to enjoy the views. If you're a cyclist, it's a great place to start a scenic loop through Newport. It is consistently colder here most days which is kind of nice on the hot summer days. Speaking of which, there's really no shade so bring your own. You can usually find some folks flying beautiful kites here. We've enjoyed the annual kite festival here a few times. There are a few spots that have water access but it's not the bear place to swim as it's a tad rocky and not much beach space to speak of. It can be a bit of a grid lock with traffic during the summer season but well worth the views when you get there. Free parking and restroom facilities (seasonal) make this a can't miss spot for tourists and Rhody natives. read more

This nice park at the southwestern tip of Aquidneck island is just a beautiful place to walk, sit by the benches and look out to the open ocean. Nice rock formations create almost a slate of rock protruding onto the wavy ocean, making this area, a beautiful setting for watching the waves. Usually the weekend after July 4th is reserved for the Kite Festival which brings all kinds of kites of all shapes, colors and lengths. Festival goers being their own as well, creating a sea of kites up on the blue skies. Just a relaxing way to spend some time in Newport. read more

Brenton Point is on the famous Ocean Drive in Newport-its at about the mid-way point. Its notorious for kite flyers and even have a kite store on site. Brenton Point has to be one of my favorite areas in Newport. Regardless what time of year it is, this park has the best views and it always seems that something is going on. There are loads of people flying kites, an occasional food truck, and tons of people enjoying this beautiful area. I have enjoyed many amazing sunsets here and seen lots of different weather events causing some impressive waves crashing against the rocks. If you live in this area and haven't been here, why not? Located on breathtaking Ocean Drive in Newport RI where you will find some of the most spectacular views on the East Coast. I always say how fortunate I am to live here in RI and be surrounded by such beauty. The park is not overly huge, but it's a beautiful place to come for a picnic, fly a kite, relax on a blanket or just sit back and take it all in. There are several monuments on the grounds and plenty of parking. Kite flying is huge here. There is always a trailer on the property selling kites. I have never driven through here and not seen them flying. Not only can you feel the breeze from the salty ocean air, you can smell it!! Definitely a must see in RI. read more

Brenton Point State Park is one of the most spectacular ocean views in Newport, RI. The park itself boasts prime kite flying conditions for enthusiasts all over. Don't think I've ever driven through here on Ocean Drive and not seen a kite flying in the sky or being prepared to. I was very envious of the grey shark I saw flying overhead on my most recent visit. The rolling fields are ideal for picnics though the wind off the water may thwart any attempt at eating warmed food. Educational signs review simple ocean life including that of "common periwinkles." Signs state "to stay off rocks" yet there are stairs leading down to them. . . so I helped myself. Many were roaming the rocky shore, jumping over crevices and being mindful of the slippery seaweed left by the waves. The salty air, waves crashing through worn rock, water blasting into the air and covering patrons with a fine mist of ocean. Peaceful and adventurous area, great for both tourists and residents of the area. read more

Brenton Point State park is breathtaking. The drive in feels like you are surrounded by water and it just feels different than the other parks around. The best time to come here and the only time ive been here was for Sunset. The sunsets are amazing and theres alot of parking spots facing the water if you want to chill in your car and watch it or do what I do and alot of other people and that is climb down to the rocks below and enjoy the sunset on the water. Great spot. ALSO ! There is an abandoned stable past the green grass. And behind the stable is a old Lookout tower or old silo, idk but either way you can get to the top and enjoy even more views. This park is absolutely spectacular and was the highlight of my trip in Rhode Island. Sitting on the rocks made me feel all warm and fuzzy and alive. I find that often taking a picture of the moment brings you out of the moment, but this sunset was the best I've ever seen and I had to document it. Go to Inpopnito, snack on some popcorn while sitting on the rocks, enjoy the salty air and stunning views, put your arm around someone you care for, and you'll understand why it was worth coming here. read more

Go fly a kite The next time someone tells you to go fly a kite make sure you go here because this place is a kite flyer's paradise. Strong ocean breezes and open spaces attract kites from all over. Small ordinary looking kites to absolutely huge and elaborate dragons, space craft and monsters frequently fill the skies during nice weather. Of course Brenton Point is great even if you don't have a kite. It's right on the tip of Ocean Drive so the views are spectacular any time of the year. It's a great place for a picnic if you can get there early enough to find a table or a great place to stop during a bike ride around Newport and Middletown. Not the largest park but still a fantastic place to go when you want to feel, taste, smell and experience the ocean breezes. Or perhaps even fly a kite. read more

Brenton Point State park is a must when visiting Newport. The park has awesome views of the ocean and is one of the best places to hang out for a picnic with friends. The park also is one of the best places for kite flying because of the steady ocean breeze in that location. The park has a spacious field and restrooms facilities. There are also benches and your can also bring a grill but the the good benches and grill area fill up fast on weekends. If you have young children this is a great park to let them cut loose and burn off some of that energy but there are no playgrounds (swngs, slides etc) at this park just the open fields. Brenton Point a pretty well maintained. The park is clean and the grass fields are cut on a regular basis. Grab some takeout from one of the restaurants in Newport and have a simple picnic at this park one late afternoon. You will not be disappointed. read more

This park is so cool! On warm windy days you can buy kites from a kite cart and fly them. There's a building with public bathrooms around the corner. And there is a cool back trail that leads to an old burned down house, a little tower you can climb and cool trees you can climb in. A great spot for a picnic and right across the street from the ocean! read more

We took Newport's 10 mile drive twice on a three day visit to Newport with the highlight of each being the stop at this park. The first visit was under foggy conditions while on both visits we witnessed crashing surf due to Hurricane Maria though it was 100's of miles to the south and east. The surf actually breached the seawall in several places. We took advantage of the park benches in order to better view the beautiful coast. This is a place of respite during high tide. Gorgeous views, always a refreshing breeze off the top of the ocean, easy parking, picnic tables, benches, and a bathroom in a nearby building. During low tide, just stay inside ocean drive to save your nostrils. You can easily spend hours here putting your mind at ease. It's glorious. read more

Brenton Point State Park is located midway along the scenic Ocean Drive, offering amazing views of the Atlantic Ocean as it meets Narragansett Bay. The park hosts the Brenton Point Kite Festival annually on the second weekend of July. It's a great spot for picnicking, a number of tables are provided throughout the park. As you cross the street to the shoreline, benches line the road allowing you to relax and enjoy the beautiful views. We saw a number of people with camp chairs and picnic blankets. There's no concession stand at the park, there was just one food truck. The park is open throughout the year, from sunrise to sunset - the restrooms are only open from May through October. There's plenty of free parking in the park. We crossed the street and sat on the benches for a while and then climbed over the rocks to get some pictures taken. Such a beautiful spot! read more

First of all, no trip to Newport is complete without a trip along Ocean Drive. With your windows down. Brenton Point is located towards the northern end of Ocean Drive, on a sloping hill overlooking the ocean. On beautiful days, you'll find people lounging in lawn chairs, or sprawled on towels and blankets, reading books, having a picnic, listening to music, sleeping...relaxation in all its glorious forms. When the wind is high enough, the park is littered with kites of all kinds, some of them performing awesome and dare-devilish tricks. The views here are spectacular. On any given day you can watch the sun play on ocean waves, fishermen trying their luck from the jagged, black rocks jutting into the sea across the way, or scan the horizon for sailboats, cargo ships, or cruise liners. Walk to the top of the hill for the some of the best views in Newport from the Mariner's Memorial, dedicated to those who lost their lives at sea. This is where I come to pay my respects to my late Uncle Jay, and any visit -- especially on a quiet evening at sunset -- is a very moving experience. Brenton Point has always had a special place in my heart. And if you visit just once, it won't soon leave yours, either. read more
