Without looking at a map, I didn't realize how expansive the lake was. The beautiful (million-dollar) homes on the lakefront were stunning. There was so much space to explore and get in some time tubing. Whether you're in Boyne City, Charlevoix, or somewhere else, I'd definitely recommend spending some time out on the lake. We didn't try to find any lakeside restaurants/bars due to COVID, but I'm guessing there are some and would love to venture back soon and do some more exploring. Beautiful state park in a tiny Northern Michigan town that is more known for fishing than for being…read morea touristy hot spot. I stopped up here recently during fall color peak. The park was alight with brilliant shades of red and amber leaves falling from the trees. It made for a beautiful drive to see the color. The park does require a star park recreation pass or sticker on your vehicle to drive around, but the office appeared closed for the season, yet the park was still open, so it didn't matter. It's a nice sized park and is well-maintained, with plenty of nice spots for taking in scenery, lake views on one side, restrooms, and picnic areas. I recommended it for anyone who loves nature. Visit in the fall while the trees are turning color, yet weather seems temperate.

Well, we missed the 10:15 ferry by a minute, then were too far back in line to catch the 10:30. We ended up on the 10:45 ferry and I called to say we would be late. Our guide, Glen, and the two other kayakers were so gracious as to wait for us. We were so grateful! It helped that the shop is right next to the ferry dock. Glen was a great guide. He was very attentive to a member of our party that was not experienced, and gave clear direction. After we got in a groove, he answered my stream of questions about the island and was a wealth of information. He took our photo in front of the arch, and came to my hangry rescue with a granola bar I desperately needed. We were so glad to get out of the crowds and be on the crystal clear water of Lake Huron. It was so peaceful. The kayaks and life jackets were very comfortable. I highly recommend Great Turtle Kayak.

What a great way to spend a few hours on the Island! Don't get me wrong, the Island is great…read more... transportation choices are walking, bicycling or by horse . Horses are cute, however.... When a horse has to go, a horse has to go and it isn't perfume or roses. Kayaking around the island and seeing the sights is a wonderful addition to the experience. The equipment is an excellent shape and the guides are well trained, informative and funny too. Don't forget to visit their gift shop..... nice shirts at a good price too.

Quite open, but can get insanely crowded during the summer months. One thing that I'm not too crazy about is the new playground on the beach. The city recently replaced the old metal slide and play equipment, but now it is geared more for toddlers and small children to play on. The play area is smaller and more artificial, instead of installing it on the sand of the beach, it is placed in a designated area close to the restrooms, set atop faux grassy turf. Disappointing to say the least.

I had the opportunity to stay at the Melody Beach Cottages this past summer. I used go go with my…read moreparents to the Melody Motel when I was a child. I was very dissatisfied with the service and cleanliness of the Cottages. It is unfortunate that the legacy of this place has been tarnished.
