I've been going here for over a decade, and as much as I enjoyed the previous owner - I give my hats off to the new management. My husband and I have noticed considerable improvements in the variety of beers that they carry. Also on Fridays, they usually have tastings for featured brands/beers from 3-5pm! They used to have a sale shelf too, but I haven't noticed that the last few times I've been by - but I hope they continue to rotate that sale shelf. Under it's new management, the Brewer's Outlet has become West Philly's premiere beer distributor. Great prices, huge selection of craft beers and $5 flat rate delivery. Can't beat it! read more

As mentioned in the first review, it's hard not to appreciate a beer distributor that's less than a block from your house. The place has a pretty great selection (i often wonder if this is city controlled in some way) and there is a helpful gentleman that will grab your preferred case from the fridge room in the back and make you feel like he put it there just for you. There is the question of prices but I feel like these are again, city controlled, and when compared to the egregious prices to be payed at any carry out spot, I am more than willing to drop $1-2 per bottle for a top shelf case. I still yearn for the Chicago days when I could walk to the grocery store for a $11 12-pack of Stella (and they call THAT the Bible Belt), but if you have to work with the system, this is a good spot to start with. read more

Probably the best distributor I've been to in this city. Prices are reasonable, you can order cases in many instances, and Paul and his staff are extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Plus, you can't beat their Saturday tastings. It's an automatic party and after going to them sporadically for a few years, my husband and I are on a first name basis with most of the folks there. Bonus here that I've never seen anywhere else--the craft brewing take a brew leave a brew program. Since we're bound to buying full cases, an honor-system trading spot where you can try a bottle of something someone else found good enough to buy is really great. read more

So this isn't a review about the beer selection (looked great, actually!) but about the guy who works the counter (perhaps the owner?). This place is apparently a UPS drop off spot, because a package I ordered from Amazon was delivered here; I went to pick it up today, following the instructions on the notice to bring the notice and a government issued id. The notice contains the tracking number and my full name, and I brought my passport. I walked over, happy to finally get my package, which was a suit case that I'm using to go up to Boston for the weekend. Nothing, I mean nothing, could have prepared me for the fact that I was going to get PHYSICALLY ASSAULTED and have racial abuse hurled at me by the shop owner! I'm a 5'2", 100 lb woman and I'm completely shaken right now. I've literally never had anything like this happen to me before. I showed him the notice, and he tells me I need an id with my address on it. I've just moved to this apartment this month so of course don't yet have id with that info, but I do have my passport (Which shows my city of birth to be Pennsylvania, has my full name matching the package, etc) and the notice, with all that info and details. He says it's not good enough (despite the guidlines on the notice saying it is?) and he tells me to get out. Uh...what? He then accuses me of trying to steal this package, apparently I have the same full name (on my passport) as the person receiving it, know the full address, know the contents of the package, etc. I tell him it's a suitcase for a trip and my bus leaves in an hour, it's pretty urgent. He says he will only accept a driver's license with the address and to get out. I've picked up many a package in my lifetime, and was never denied for this particular reason. What if someone moved recently? I move to the side since there were other customers in line, and told him that we need to sort this out quickly and that I indeed have everything that ups requires. He then, I kid you not, comes out from behind the counter and starts screaming, pushing me, and punching me in the back as I turn around to ward off his blows (?!!?!), all the while muttering about "n*ggers" being thieves, and how I'm a "troublemaker." Whoaaaa, what? Like, it's seriously scary and hurtful. I then ask him to call the police, which he does, and I wait while he serves the other customers (who apparently found it ok to do nothing in this case, bystander effect, I suppose). It's surreal. They show up, talk to him, and he totally changes his demeaner, and we sort out that, yes, this is indeed my package. I'm filing assault charges against this man now, and I thought I'd let everyone know to not support a place either owned by or that employs abusive racists like this man. The neighborhood may seem a little shady, but what part of Philly isn't? In fact, its a pretty safe area since its right on the border of University City. The price may be a bit higher than what you find in the suburbs, but the selections are great and the staff very helpful. I love picking out my Yards in the back walk-in fridge during the hot summers. I sometimes get a few bucks off when I get large amounts for parties. read more

Let me just say, I LOVE the beer selection here. but come with a car OR plan on carrying it yourself. When a nice gentleman offered to help me ACROSS THE STREET with my case, I thought, Wow (!) for a couple of bucks, it can't be beat. I was carrying 2 bags from work and a bag of produce. Then, upon my arrival literally 100 feet from the corner of 48th, I handed him $2 (I thought that was not so bad for 5 minutes of work...) and he DEMANDED $5 for carrying it across Spruce Street. I literally almost dropped my bags and carried the case BACK to the store and then back home. I am a grad student and just thought someone was being nice and tipped like I would someone helping me with bags at a hotel. Am I being cheap? Seriously, someone tell me. For $5 I should have made the extra trip and bought a better case of beer. Brewer's - it does you a complete disservice having employees tell you they can help and then demanding money. read more

Beware! I'm willing to bet the people that have written positive reviews are the owners and their children. This is the worst experience I've ever had at a liquor or beer. store 1. They follow you around as if you are an 11 year old kid that wants to steal a KEG! 2. The owner is shady, he will take pictures of your ID on his phone without notice. 3. The prices are too high and their selection is limited. How do you call yourself an outlet when your prices are almost 15% higher than stores? Unless you have a serious alcohol problem and you have NO other options, save away from here! read more

This distributor has a good selection of macro and micro brews and they have a pretty well-stocked refrigerator case. It's within walking distance of my apartment which is a big plus. read more

They have a great beer selection but they lack on customer service. I have gone here a few times over the years and was not always pleased with the staff, but my last visit was the straw that broke the camels back .I had a terrible experience at this place. I went in to get a lottery ticket and paid with cash. After the women handed me my ticket she never gave me my money. When I informed her that she still owed me. She proceeded to tell me she did give me my change and I must have hidden it somewhere. When I told her again after emptying my pockets, she came from behind the counter and frisked me and said that I must have hidden it under my cloths. Still not wanting to give me my money, she opened the draw handed me my change in coins and said I was a thief and told me never to come back again. I have never had an experience like this before. Don't go hear unless you want to be demoralized and attacked when buying a product from them. read more
