This is a really cool spot in the city. The beer selection is reasonable, with a little bit of variety for any kind of palate. We were able to sit as a group of 3 on the side table next to the window. It's not a huge seating area by the window, but they have larger tables towards the back of the shop which may be more suitable for larger groups. The nice thing is that we were able to bring in food to have with our beer. Given the convenience of Angelo's Pizzeria not being far away, it was a great place to have your take-out dinner along with delicious beer. The staff was nice and welcoming and it was not a loud space. Parking in the area could be tricky, so be sure to read the street signs to avoid getting ticketed. Beer Love is such a chill bottle and beer tasting shop in Queen Village. They hosted some fun events during Philly Beer Week, including one for sour flights and another for Draai Laag, an incredible funky-focused brewery out of Pittsburgh...that I visited in April. The shop itself is small but wasn't cramped during my visits. They have a decent-sized bar (nothing fancy, no seat backs but it's fine) and a splattering of tables. They also have a big refrigerated bottle section. I briefly browsed and saw some good names but only purchased the tasting flights since it was beer week. And also a room temp Red Briar bottle to go from Draai Laag because I was so thrilled to have it again. They also had a house beer on tap, "Love and Passion" colllab with Round Guys, during my second visit. It may still be available. It was nice on a hot day! I'll keep this spot in mind for future brewery tastings. They have a Devil's Backbone event coming up that looks nice, among plenty others. read more

I found this place by accident I saw the dresses in the window and stumbled across beer! Wow I can shop for a dress, eat and choose from a variety of beers. There was a nice crowd not too many people but enough to mingle and have a good time. The ladies selling the dresses were very helpful. When I moved toward the dresses I was offered assistance and given information about how the two ladies there made the dresses. The dresses were in various fabric patterns but the same basic design. Several of the dresses were made of a nice floral pattern, not that I'm a fan of floral dresses. As I stood in front of several refrigerated cases of beer a friendly young lady approached me to offer assistance. I pointed out and named several beers, she explained their type and taste. After going over my options the way she explained a Japanese beer saki combo I had to have it. So I took home a $4.25 16 oz can of beer of which I enjoyed later that evening. With spots like The Bottle Shop, Food & Friends, Bottle Bar East, Foodery, and then some, Philly definitely isn't without its plentiful selection of beer shops that do mix a six. And when I'm looking for a regular everyday six pack, or some beers to stock up my refrigerator with, I'm more likely to go to any of those other options first. But when I looking to spend more money for some harder to find beers that I haven't found in other coolers before, or reconnect with an interesting beer that I haven't been able to find for awhile, Beer Love is the first place that I go to. Because while I do almost always walk out paying the higher price tag than what I do when I leave those other spots, I almost always walk out discovering a solid new brewery like Draai Laag for the first time, or finding a good buy on a harder to find Barleywine Ale that I haven't seen forever. Being True to its name Beer Love does also feature plenty of solid tasting events to go to. With the exception of actual bars with a built in bottle shop, like Bottle Bar East and Local 44, They also have the best built in bar area that I've imbibed at with a good list of taps that you can grab a growler off of. Just wanted to share a very disappointing experience at Beer Love. I had not visited there since 2018 when I lived two blocks away. Stopped in to sample a beer or two this afternoon and hopefully take a growler home. I ordered a beer and was promptly informed by the bartender that I needed to produce my vaccination documentation from a bar tender (not a medical provider). I responded, "are you serious? Why?" No response other than "we need to know." I said, "why, this is patently absurd given I'm vaccinated and got COVID anyway." How stupid is this policy? There is an old saying I heard from a wise man that describes this ridiculously stupid policy perfectly- "There is no season on stupid." It's really an amazingly stupid and sure fire way to destroy entrepreneurship for places like Beer Love which is never packed with customers. My advice? Steer clear of establishments like this who forget about the consumer-provider relationship. We give you our money to drink the beer you provide. That's it. Just pour the beer and we give your $ in exchange. You would be better off if you just poured beers and not ask customers post COVID about our vaccination status. Seriously. Just stop and pour beers. Your mind numbingly asinine vaccination proof requirement is misguided at this point as there were three human beings at the bar when I walked in: me, the bartender and another patron. Maybe focus on bringing beer loving customers into your establishment- It is about the love of beer after all. I guess I'll just have to wait to see what business will take that location when customers stay away for this intrusion into any customers medical history including if we are vaccinated or not. My friends and I went to this establishment today, and we were told we needed to wear masks. They had some masks outside and we immediately put them on. I personally didn't mind. As a vaccinated individual, I completely understand being safe. We then went in and started looking for drinks to buy. After a while, two of my friends left, because they didn't want anything. However, my boyfriend was about to buy a $46 bottle of wine and I was about to buy 1 (I repeat 1 beer). They then told us we were not allowed to buy anything without showing the IDs of our friends who had already left. Aside from the fact that we are all over 30 years old, why, if we were not buying "Mad Dog", looking like we were trashed, or being rude at all, would they not serve us? I personally have never been treated like this at an establishment, and I normally go above and beyond to support local businesses. I love spending money at unique places. Beer love is my favorite local bottle shop! It's clean, comfortable, and convenient. I have lived in Queen Village for a couple of years and this place has been my go-to for beer & wine. Their beer selection is huge, and wine selection has something for all tastes, seasons, and price points. They have a well curated selection of draft beers to drink at the counter or at their lovely parking lot patio setup. An Evil Genius sampling event brought us in, the Goose Island Flights of Juliet, Madame Rose, Bourbon County Stout and Bourbon County Barleywine kept me hanging out at their full bar. Oof, not a good experience here at all. Not a great variety of beers on the small menu. Beers seemed overpriced. I also noticed that the server gave my table our beers in plastic cups, whereas everyone else sitting outside had their beers in actual glasses. Lastly, the server (& maybe only?) worker there (a tattooed middle aged guy) was REALLY rude. My friends and I tried talking to him initially, but he was super condescending and had zero personality. He berated my friend for a joke she made, and made her feel so bad, that we literally left immediately. Overall, a pretty awful experience & I would not recommend it. There are FAR better places to check out in the neighborhood - save your money & support nicer/kinder/more friendly businesses. read more

I said "I thought the mandate was over?" "It is, but we still enforce it. And I'm going to need to check BOTH of your ID's" in a rude tone again. I walked out. I'm totally willing to follow rules of a store if they can accommodate for those rules and treat people kindly. I wasn't rude whatsoever. I would have 100% put a mask on! Housed in a former Fabric Row fabric shop sits Beer Love, a fun, simple bottle shop that lets Queen Villagers finally walk somewhere for their six packs. I got to visit on opening day and I will be returning quite frequently. The wall beer fridge holds bottles organized by style. At the time of writing the fridge organization was something like summer ales, saisons, ipas, stouts, oddballs and formed six packs. They also have 8 or so taps which showed a nice PA representation. The owners couldn't have been nicer and guided me through their selection as well as told me about their renovations. The bar area can seat about 10 and I noticed four four-tops and two two-top tables for those who want to hang out and imbibe. I've heard they are cool with people bringing in outside food and they also sell some pre-packaged nuts and chips if you're just looking for something salty. The prices seem reasonable for the area and it seems like they are going to keep their selection rotating as the seasons change. read more

Some friends and I decided to hit this place up after getting a late brunch. We came right after the place was supposed to be opened for the day, but it didn't seem like anyone was inside as the light was off. An employee eventually came to the door and let us in, but it seemed like he was eating lunch in the dark at one of the tables. He appeared bothered that we interrupted his lunch and completely uninterested in providing service to his customers. The tatted up guy is such a douche. I have no problem with people being extra cautious about carding, but please understand that you are not in line with the norm of the rest of the city, so if you choose to be different (which is your prerogative, and totally fine) at least show some decent costumer service. This guy has no idea how to talk to people or show any sympathy for putting people out. I am not at all surprised by the other comments about him being condescending and berating people. If you get that much of a power trip off of being Intentionally mean get a job at the DMV, not where people expect decent customer service. My husband and I come here often to grab beer to go; the beer is great and the people are kind. The latter changed today. I wasn't drinking but I was carded (understandable for a bar)- long story short, the bartender misread the expiry line on the ID I ended up pulling out and instead of apologies, I received aggression and malice. Completely unwarranted- I have never met this person before. I'm sure it's not reflective of how beer love treats their patrons, but the interaction bordered on harassment and we will not be returning. The space is also very open, relaxed and conducive to chilling out with "just one more." Bartender is friendly and knowledgeable. Definitely know their beers. Have been here a couple of times now and have not commented on this great establishment! I wish I had this place near my place of sleep. Very chill vibe with about 8 rotating taps of solid selection of beer. Their can and bottle selection is quite extensive with organization by style. Staff is quite helpful in recommendations and any questions you have. Actual seating is around 30-35 but it is quite a large space for you to indulge in a pint and browse. Stay a while with a draft or buy a can and indulge. We were also allowed to bring in outside food! They do serve some snacks and cold sandwiches. They have a beer club for an annual fee which allows exclusive access to rare beers and tastings and a monthly 6pack from the shop. Went in today and I overheard someone threatening the worker that she'd bad mouth them for not accepting a gift card that was 4 years old. Yes - 4 YEARS old! What a disappointment! I could see this place having some potential as a good place to have a beer with friends, but as far as purchasing any beer to take home - look elsewhere. I read about this place in an old issue of Philadelphia magazine and then looked them up on Facebook. I had been meaning to check them out. It always seemed like they were doing cool events and on their website they boast their love of beer. Well, with Easter and my boyfriend's birthday coming up, I figured it was worth the trip up from Delaware to check it out and pick up some beers as a gift. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a big waste of gas, time and money. A little background - my boyfriend and I are both craft beer lovers. We belong to several craft beer groups on social media, and in general know our beers. We have visited countless breweries, craft beer bars, tasting rooms and bottle shops. The place was easy enough to find. Small, but had a decent bar set up. I was on a mission to pick out some bottles, so I didn't have a chance to scope out what they had on tap. There were two employees working there. One was behind the bar the entire time, the other walked past me at least twice on his way to the back of the store/bar. Neither greeted me. Neither asked if I needed help or if I was looking for anything in particular. Disappointing, yes - but fortunately I know what my boyfriend likes and I had an idea of what I was looking for. There were only five or six refrigerated cases and minimal offerings from the various breweries they choose to carry. They had quite an extensive list of breweries on their website saying they were "just a few" of what they carried. I felt like there weren't many options though and A LOT of what I was seeing, I had seen before. You don't have to have a huge selection to have unique offerings, but there were maybe only two beers in all the cases I wasn't familiar with and knew I couldn't get elsewhere. I eventually settled on some beers, making a six pack for my boyfriend, and picked out one extra for me and made my way to the counter so the bartender could cash me out. As he began to ring up my selection I asked if I could get a couple stickers. He stopped and looked at me as if I had six heads and asked, "What do you mean? What for?" Seriously BeerLOVE? You claim to be beer fanatics and have one of the coolest logos I have ever seen and you don't have flipping stickers? It's actually pretty common for craft beer lovers to ask for stickers in their travels. They like to collect them, or as it is in our case, put them on our beer fridge at home. I felt super lame having to explain to your hipster bartender, "You know, logo stickers. People usually collect them. Put them on their fridges at home...." After I say this, he then goes on to say, "Oh no. Sorry. We don't have those. I have bags though. Would you like a bag?" Now - considering he dropped this little bit of knowledge on me right after the sticker conversation I thought, 'Oh. The bag must have a logo on it.' and responded, "Sure." Well... it was just a lame, brown paper bag. So at this point it was as if he was mocking me. After this ridiculous exchange he gives me my total and I about fall over. I spent about 10 to 15% more than I would have on 7 bottles of beer than if I had gone pretty much anywhere else in the Delaware Valley. BeerLOVE - I was not feeling the love. Nothing about your staff or your selection showed me that you truly love craft beer. Maybe if I lived in the neighborhood, I'd consider giving you guys another try and actually have a drink at the bar. Maybe. But based on my experience, I won't be back and I won't recommend you guys to others. read more

Finally got a chance to check out this new bottle shop in Queen Village, and I dig it. I walked in and was greeted by one of the folks who work there. He was also nice enough to give info, and opinions on beers. It is always nice to be able to ask question in case you want clarification. The beer selection is a bit small than most bottle shops, but they have some good ones. The price is what you would usually spend at most bottle shops around South Philly, so nothing too crazy. Still, this is a really cool place to drop in to grab some sixers and some snacks for your evening. I would also hope to have an evening where I can sit at the bar to enjoy some of their drafts. Carton Mexican Cream Ale is hands down the best beer I've had. It's like a lighter Guinness almost. Very creamy vanilla coffee vibes and it's 12%. In a lightweight and this had me warm and rosy in no time. Fun place to sit and have a drink or just shop around for different beers to try. read more

Went to a Wednesday movie night. Watched the 1940's classic Casablanca, in its entirety, on a projector screen, while sipping a beer. What a unique experience! Apparently they'll be doing this every Wednesday for the foreseeable future.. Very low key spot with an excellent "DIY" beer selection. Decent place and selection of beer. The bartender was indifferent at best and rude at worst. He did not greet us and sort of dismissed us as soon as we entered. There were only three people there so he wasn't busy either. We ordered a beer each and left shortly after. If there were friendlier staff, we would definitely return. The only reason this place has 1 star is because of they sell wine. After only going a total of 3 times, tonight was my final and last time. And the only reason I've gone 3 times is because of this place is closer than the other wine store but I'd rather walk a mile to the farthest one before going back to Beer Love. Every time I've gone, there's been a problem. First time around, I walked into the store while I was in the middle of putting my mask on and was told I needed it before entering the store or I wouldn't be served. Ok. Second time around, my boyfriend was waiting outside with the dog on the sidewalk and I was refused service until he came inside and showed his ID. Ok? Third and final time, I walked in wearing my glasses with a mask so I pulled it away from my nose to defog for two seconds and was told I needed to wear my mask properly right away. I understand complying with the mask mandate and checking IDs but my god these people watch you LIKE HAWKS almost like they don't want you in the store. It was hard giving them my money after the rude and sass I get every time for the 5 seconds I'm in there trying buy a bottle of wine. Either remove the sticks up the ass or hire nicer people.
