Jon is likely the most knowledgeable guy in town about beer. I come to him with what I have tasted what I want and he puts the recipe together. I wish I knew more about what he did but he makes the magic happen. Couldn't say enough about his knowledge and his recommendations. As of late-June I thought we were going to be left with no brewing supply store in town. Then John put on his superhero outfit and saved our community from facing that nasty void. Quickly too! Supplies are still limited at this early date. I didn't get my first choice of yeast. He didn't have some of the dry malt extract I wanted. The checkout counter is a tower of makeshift crates. But it looks exactly like a homebrew supply store should. And half the fun of homebrewing is tweaking your recipe and sometimes being thrilled with the results. It may be premature for a 5-star review, but I think the old Greenhaus space is perfect -- Daniel's good vibe remains. Calling all Louisville home brewers and wine makers!!!! In all honesty I've never tried to make wine so I cant speak about what's needed to make the adult juice. My girlfriend drinks a lot of it and it flows through our house like a river! My lack of knowledge about making wine shouldn't deter you from seeking out John's selection of wine making kits. If it's like making beer then there should be nothing to it. My reasoning for this 5 star rating comes from the bigger selling items in the store, beer brewing supplies. I don't consider myself to be a master brewer but this also isn't my first batch of beer. I've been home brewing for almost 2 year now and Brewgrass home brew supply has been there for me on all of my 17 batches. There hasn't been one time where I have walked in needing a specialty grain or a certain type of hop and John not carry it. If you are new to brewing and need to get some of the basic equipment, John has anything a beginner would need to brew any style of you you want. If you don't have a recipe, he will sit down with you and prepare on for you. Also what is impressive about this store is the willingness to help new people get into the craft. If you have a question during business hours, call them up. If it's after hours, send them a Facebook message and John is pretty attentive about responding. No question big or small will be answered in a way that will make you feel like you're an idiot or can't do it. Trust me, I've asked some dumb ones!lol This place isn't just for newbies either. There are several products that tailor to the more advanced brewers. Wanna get a little crazy with you beer? How about throwing in some fruit or other spices? The possibilities are endless with what Brewgrass has to offer. Do you keg? Everything from the "O" rings all the way to the kegs themselves, you can get here. I was ordering all my wine supplies online until I came across Brewgrass. They have a decent selection of wine kits on hand. If they don't have what you are looking for they are willing to try and get it for you. Their prices are very close to what you would pay from a larger wholesaler without the added cost of shipping. And besides, I'd much rather support a local business. They don't stock a huge selection of wine bottles, but again I'm sure John would try to accommodate if possible. All other necessary equipment they've got you covered. My next adventure is going to be trying my first batch of beer.
