I've been a fan of West Sixth for years. Their Pay It Forward Cocoa Porter, Cerveza and Amber Ale have made it into our beer fridge multiple times. It had been a while since I had been at the NuLu taproom though, so I was excited to go back for a special event where we learned to play mahjong. (Great beer plus learning a new game, always a plus!) Since this was a Tuesday, the food counter wasn't open, but we were able to get some drinks. I very much enjoyed their Berliner Weisse. This spot it tucked away in Nulu Marketplace, but it is rather large. A great spot to meet friends. It also has many outdoor tables in the marketplace courtyard. A brewery treasure. Definitely make it a point to visit. read more

This brewery is in a wonderful location, you can walk/shop around Nulu and then stop in for a beer. The outdoor courtyard has lots of seating but, if the weather isn't cooperating, there's plenty of seating inside. Staff are always friendly, and let you sample the beers before committing to a pint. On Saturday, I tried the Catharina (mango and guava sour) and the tomato tomato sour. The Catharina was delicious, you could really taste the mango and guava. The tomato tomato was one of the more unique beers I've tasted. The tomato flavor wasn't over powering. A lovely stop for two refreshing beers and live music on stage! read more

This spot has been a great addition to Louisville and Nulu Marketplace. With seats indoors and on the patio, you can sip and relax despite the weather - and The Gallery offers fantastic bites. Loved the beef sliders and tots. Always several beers on tap, plus a few things in the fridge to carry home. While relaxing there waiting for friends, the servers were friendly and quick to take orders. This is a great spot for a meet up and on my brewery recommendation list. First time to this location NuLu Marketplace square. Almost a block of building with great shops and restaurants located inside the square. Great idea! This place was busy and hidden away from the streets surrounding the building created a great atmosphere. We first walked about; it a bit confusing at first since the courtyard was extremely busy; great place to kick back and enjoy the camaraderie of patrons. We found ourselves in West Sixth NuLu; quite the busy place with about 8 bartenders all very busy. Liked the beer list; but we were looking for pizza; their menu looked interesting but just no pizza. So we found Emmy Squared. Sat down there and went back to West Sixth for drinks. The stouts were tasty and the cider crisp. Definitely a place to check out! read more

Ok so I first came here when this place first opened during the pandemic and for a Yelp Elite event in late 2020. I didn't come here a whole lot until recently for Ale Trail and 502 Books and Brews. This brewery is located in the ever growing NuLu Marketplace. West Sixth is located towards the back past Emmy Square Pizza. The inside is very spacious with many tables and bar seating (Yay for bar seating) . They have great choices for beer to go or stick around for a beer or two on tap. I have done flights the past few times I been here. My favorite beers so far have been their best seller the West 6th IPA and most of their dark beers. You get a wooden coin with your flight for either $1 off merch or they donate that dollar to a charity. First time I went with merch and got one of their long sleeve shirts, this past visit I gave it to a charity. This is a great brewery to stop by if your shopping in the NuLu marketplace or just want to see what the buzz is all about. There are a few restaurants around and you can bring food there.I give 5 stars for service and great beer. I do see myself coming back here more and more. It feels more happy and bright than when they first opened during the pandemic. read more

West Sixth is awesome! I've had some of their beers before, so I know coming in that I was going to enjoy it. I've always wanted to check it out in Lexington, but now that we have our own it makes it much easier to visit! First off, I love the new Nulu Marketplace. It's such a fun hangout area, and I also love how it's hidden behind buildings in an alley-way. Even though West Sixth doesn't serve food, Emmy Squared Pizza is right next door! There are many different beers to try from, and their staff are very friendly to help give recommendations. I was a little sad to not be able to try a flight due to COVID, but the Cranberry Sour caught my attention immediately. LOVED it!! I can't wait to come back to West Sixth to try some other flavors. They have some snacks here but there's a pizza place around here. West Sixth Cerveza - similar to a Corona with a little more flavor. Fairly light and easy to drink. Pay it Forward Cocoa Porter - not as cocoa as I would have liked but still a good Porter in general. West Sixth Amber Ale - lighter amber Ale than I anticipated and a little light on the taste. It is simple and easy to drink though. Strawberry Kölsch - got a hint of Strawberry in the taste and it's pretty good. I did enjoy this one and it's probably my 2nd favorite. Christmas Ale - I really enjoyed this one and would probably say it is my favorite out of the 5. Good spice blend without it being overpowering. read more

This is a place that understands the concerns of COVID-19 and still wants people to be able to enjoy their beers. Outside (shared) patio seating, huge door that's open, limited indoor seating spaced apart, take away options.... On top of that, they have hand sanitizer by the door, lines for where to walk and stand, and every staff member is correctly wearing a mask. Went to a wedding reception in the upstairs venue space this past weekend. The venue was nice. The couple had an outside vendor for food and beer and vine were being served at the bar. Bartenders were pleasant and friendly. It was really cold in the space and the chairs at the tables where we ate were extremely uncomfortalbe so we sat in the only overstuffed, comfortable chairs in the venue. Parking is also an issue. There is street parking and a couple of dozens parking spots in the lot off of Main Street but on a Saturday night in NULU it made parking difficult, especially walking in heels to get to the event. They did have outside seating as well. So although a nice spot there were some things I didn't care for. read more

We recently visited Nulu Marketplace while our friends were in town. I'm a big fan of West Sixth beer so I was excited to visit. Great selection...something for everyone! The inside is huge, plenty of tables spread out. And there's lots of seating in the courtyard outside. They don't serve food but Emmy Squared pizza is right next door and I'm pretty sure you can bring in other food. You go in and order at the bar, they have menus set up all around. They even have glasses filled with clean and dirty pens to sign your check! We all felt very comfortable. A few faves of ours were the West Sixth IPA, one of the lagers, the bourbon barrel stout and the cerveza. They had an Angels Envy beer I really wanted to try, but the keg just tapped. So now I'll have to go back soon lol. All the employees were super friendly, quick service. We went on a Tuesday night with our pup and it wasn't too crowded but I can see how it could get during the weekends...especially if there's games going on. They also sell 4 and 6 packs to go! Which was a nice surprise for our friends staying in a hotel down the street. All in all, we had an awesome night here and can't wait to go back soon! read more

I think this is a great spot for a brewery... nestled right in the Nulu Marketplace. It definitely feels like it anchors the whole marketplace. I didn't feel entirely welcomed by the staff. We walked to the bar from within the Nulu Marketplace courtyard and was taking a look at the menu. There were about 4 staff members standing around at the bar, and we weren't greeted by any of them. We ordered our beers and went back out into the courtyard to enjoy them. We ended up venturing up to the second level to overlook the courtyard. I had gotten a flight and enjoyed most of the beers I picked out. The courtyard is really cute and relaxing. I would definitely come back here - this is a cool spot for grabbing drinks with friends! read more

I was very excited to try this brewery! Open air space with plenty of seating outside in the cool courtyard also. They have a great selection of beers! We tried 2 of their new beers, Nuzu, a pale wheat ale, and Waffle Waffle, a maple cinnamon scotch ale. Both were really good! If you are a fan of porters, their Cocoa Porter is one of the best. We've been dying to try this place since it opened and just happened to be downtown on a mild winter day so we decided to stop by to grab a beer. When we arrived we parked off Market and walked through a long corridor that opens up to this amazing outdoor patio. It was almost like something you see out of town and not in Louisville. We went straight to the bar and started asking questions about the current tap list. The bartender was very descriptive which was very helpful in making a good beer choice. After we got our beers we headed back outside to find a table which had tons of outdoor seating up and downstairs to choose from. West Sixth is one of the most ubiquitous breweries in Kentucky. If a bar or concession stand needs a go-to IPA to placate the craft beer crowd, they're likely going to put West Sixth's flagship IPA on tap; the cocoa porter and amber ale are also pretty famous. It's a reliable, crowd-pleasing brewery, but not one that's in the upper echelon. While the beer tends to land in the "good but not great" camp, the NuLu taproom certainly elevates the West Sixth experience. They knew the NuLu crowd was gonna bum-rush the place and by God, they came prepared. It's one of the most sizable taprooms around and is VERY well-staffed with kindly, efficient bartenders. Even on Friday or Saturday, you're unlikely to run into any issues securing the pints you crave; this taproom is a well-oiled machine. Additionally, some beers are brewed in NuLu itself instead of West Sixth's native Lexington. They're tagged as NuLu brews on the menu, and you should definitely prioritize them. In particular, the Talus single-hop IPA is easily the best West Sixth product I've yet to try. Not an essential Louisville brewery but still a very pleasant addition to any night in NuLu, especially if you're jonesing for some pinball. read more
