I just left this place and let me tell you that staff is working hard!!!!! With graduation they were clearly busy but made sure everything was taken care of. They even helped us seat all our reservations together when we were unable to make them as one large one. No easy task! This place is really pretty inside and inviting yet I've eaten here once before and it was awesome but this time it wasn't. Matter of fact I'm not sure if I want to go back. We were sat in an almost empty restaurant but that was most likely because of time of day (around 2). Our waitress though took awhile to come greet us. She took our orders and to start off on a wrong foot our 2 cocktails and WATERS took over 10 minutes to come out. I know this because I had a text I had sent and being aggravated I went back and looked at the time when I sent it . Later on our appetizers came out. It was about 20ish minutes after our order went in. Then our food came about 5 minutes after that giving us little room left on the table. I know it was an almost 45 minute wait to get everything. I ordered the blackened chicken which was amazing my first visit a couple months previously but this time it was dry and definitely blackened .... AKA burnt! The manager was checking on the other tables she had with an additional waitress running around so I assume our waitress wasn't the only one taking care of them (4 as seen in picture actually) and when he popped by to ask how everything was he took my plate to remake it. 15ish MORE minutes go by and I asked the waitress if she could check on my food and she said 'well chicken takes a while to cook'. In disbelief I jokingly said I can make it faster at home so please just get mine to-go since my parents were already done and had been done for awhile. We got to-go boxes for their leftovers and my food came out shortly after . We received $ 40 off without asking so I appreciated getting something for 1 1/2 hours waiting in a nearly empty restaurant and no meal. I went home and when I went to heat up my food AGAIN the chicken was charred and extremely dry. I ate the sweet corn farrotto which was atleast good and trashed the chicken. Since it was now dinner time I made my own meal With the time and overall poorly done meal(s?) I had I think I'll avoid it happening again by just going elsewhere. It's a shame because we went here with a party of 8 previously and they did so good. We were honestly thinking this would be our spot for special occasions after that but it's likely not worth it since the manager and chef left us hanging and yet again served something subpar. I'd of hoped they make absolutely sure my simple chicken dish was correct the second time around I didn't take a pictures of food we got unfortunately. Our appetizers looked and tasted good but they were eaten quickly because we were starving by the time they came out around 3 so no time for those pictures either. I was then too busy sending my food back and eating appetizers. Once my chicken came out togo we all just wanted out of there! Then once I got home I was too aggravated and gave up any reason to go get my phone I suppose. Why bother? They didn't bother to make it right after all except to give us some $ off but I still wasted my time that day and again when I got home making my own food . Generally this is a great place to go ! We're locals & love the beer & food. The service is hit & miss. We went for dinner on a Sat (no home games) at 5-pm & over half of the restaurant was empty & we were told if we didn't have a reservation (never in 17-ish yrs have I never had them ask me this) we wouldn't get seated for over an hr. The sours, tarts, fruited stuff is amazing, wow the craft, anyone with berry and citrus and that ripe zesty orchard in their ale must come here. As it happened, I needed something darker instead of the sensational Two of Harts or Petal to the Kettle. Took home a Bad Elmer Porter in a growler, this is the right mood for curing loneliness and feeling blue on the bright blue July days. It is annoying street parking, though wide open, is costing money. Bloomington is such an odd small city thinking it's the state capital! I'm so conflicted about this review. A friend and I came for a bird and brews event and got dinner afterward. Initially it was a little frustrating because service was slow and we felt kind of ignored until we realized our server seemed to be the only one actually working. The rest of the staff seemed to just be hanging around (at one point it seemed like staff was just sitting at the bar talking maybe I was reading it wrong and they had just gotten off?) but we were frustrated on behalf of our server. She was just doing her best. The food itself was really good I absolutely decimated my burger and the champagne velvet is now one of my favorite beers. However, it was just a bad look watching our server take orders and serve food to every table while other staff were doing nothing. First, the home fries were good. And the service was polite. Second, I ordered an egg sandwich. The bagel was not toasted and the egg was runny (not how I asked for it to be cooked). And the tomato jam was overpowering. There was simply too much and made the texture unpleasant. And finally, for brunch, you do not need a reservation. The service was absolutely terrible, our server (I believe his name was Jake or Jack?) was extremely rude, was too busy flirting with his female coworkers to notice our water cups had been empty for 20 minutes, and my husband said he could smell alcohol on his breath. This is my friend's grandpa's favorite restaurant! Every-time he is in town he always suggests Upland because it is that good. My favorite thing to get there is the turkey avocado club, they dont have a full bar which is always a little disappointing since i am not a beer or cider drinker but they are a brewery so you cant be too upset. Went there for lunch with some friends today. I had the fish and chips, they had the tenderloin sandwich. Everything was simply amazing! My fish was absolutely crispy on the outside, tender, and juicy on the inside. The house made tartar sauce made the dish complete. It was accompanied by housemaid fries, which were absolutely fantastic. I wish I had thought to take a picture before I devoured my lunch. The service is always fantastic at this place. UGH. Had dinner at Upland tonight with friends and it wasn't good. First of all, our server. We were a party of six women. He called each of us "Hon" and "Dear" which is some BS. Very unprofessional. One of our party asked for a taste of a beer, he brought her a full glass. The food was just bad. We ordered fries to share. They arrived just a degree or two above cold. They had obviously been sitting for a while. I ordered the Caesar Salad with grilled chicken. The salad was a disgusting soggy mess and ironically, the chicken was overcooked to the point where it was dry. It was honestly the worst Caesar salad I have ever had. I think the chicken had just been lying around the kitchen, it wasn't freshly made. The beer was good, as usual, although the beers listed on the Upland website are nowhere near what they actually have on tap. Update your website! I was disappointed to not be able to order what I thought they had on tap. Upland used to be my go-to, I live in the neighborhood. Tonight was really disappointing. However, I think the beer is very consistent and the food quality is superior with lots of local products (important to me.) in my new search for whimsical food and drinks they have several items on the list, although the giant pretzel with beer cheese and beer mustard is my favorite and that of my six year olds, which makes me like it even more! Long time customer and townie. Most recent trip disappointed. Upon seating at 11:00 as they opened there were flies visible flying from table to table. When I unwrapped my silverware, there was a salad green that had been washed and dried around the tines of my fork. My favorite beer here is the champagne velvet, but I also like the Oktoberfest and the wheat beer. We tasted the champagne velvet at Lotus Festival and then had to find the brewery to buy growlers. This is my number one brewery choice when I'm in Bloomington. I'm rating this five stars based on the beer, which is the most important part. I could drink the champagne velvet all day. The food is also good although probably not 5 stars. The wife and I have been here for brunch a couple of times. The first time we were here, the wife decided that the wit Mac & cheese was the best she had ever tasted. However, on our most recent trip, she said that it was creamier, and better, the last time we were here. I had the frittata, which was good although not all that much food. The niece and nephew had fish and chips and UEG Grit Bowl. They reported these as good, but I did not taste either. The nephew said that the fried fish was well battered but not over battered. I live in Bloomington and go to Upland with some regularity... it used to be a lot better BEER - the beer remains good- always something in rotation that I like and beer quality has remained great over time. AMBIANCE- still the best patio dining in Bloomington! FOOD - Meh. Since the "corporate takeover" and streamlining menus across all the locations, food quality and innovation is not good. Menu changes a little season to season, but never much innovation. CLEANLINESS - meh. Bathrooms severely need upgrade. If you are new to Upland - you will probably enjoy. It is hard not to like the burgers, fries, and salads. The newest pretzel appetizer is finally good again! But for the regulars - hard not to miss "the old days". read more

This is a long overdue review for a place that truly couldn't have provided better service. Sadly I can't remember everything I ordered, but I do remember getting a pretzel that came with this delicious homemade house mustard. When I inquired about purchasing some, the sweet waitress brought some in to-go cups for me to take home. I told her I was only in town for a basketball game and had flown in so she came back with it in a sealed eight ounce bottle--on the house. That was so incredibly kind. My entire life I had wanted to go to Bloomington--ever since watching Breaking Away as a kid--and my trip turned out to be everything I had hoped for, other than losing the game. My partner and I went to Upland for lunch today. I cannot rave enough about their fries ! I'm super picky about how I like my fries because I don't like the real potato-y taste. These fries are nice and crispy ! Whatever they are battered and fried in has such unique taste. I'll keep coming back for more. I tend to always get the plum jam burger. (I always forget the name of it). But I highly recommend ! Their burgers have a nice crispy sear and are always cooked to perfection. It was such a nice day out. We chose to sit on the patio and I think that was the perfect choice. My partner just had surgery this past week and is on crutches.
