Not some big ordeal involving calendar invites, but an impromptu boozing sess with crisps. Yeah! So The Lamb is not strictly our local, that's Horatio, but they didn't have any food. So over to The Lamb it was, a proper English pub. Or Irish, as it may be, since they had Tayto crisps. TAYTOS - the food of my people! I love it. We rolled up, they had a variety of ciders and even complimented my accent as 'exotic'*. It's a bit dark but they had a cracking good crowd going, which cannot be said for Horatio. We were even able to order pizza as they have a relationship with a local place and the delivery guy was in and out all night, dropping pizzas off at the tables. GRAND FINALE. Tip: it gets super crowded after the Arsenal games on Sunday so get there early, or avoid Sundays.

The Baron H (Earl Grey Black IPA) is tasty and uniquely British, but we were really impressed with the Pentonville Oyster Stout. It was dark and viscous, with a slight hint of ocean, and oh so tasty especially for being only 5.3%. The Giant Isopod Imperial Stout was also really, really good. In addition to the house taps, they also have quite an interesting guest beer selection from the UK and beyond. Prices are very reasonable, with most beers around 4 or 5P. Bartenders are very welcoming. They also just recently added food--will have to try that soon!

It doesn't feel like a city pub, which paradoxically is why it's so popular with city types. On any given weekday, if the temperature is above freezing, there are more people drinking outside than there are inside, strewn around all over both sides of the roads that meet there, like a group of rioters that have simultaneously forgotten just what it was they were rioting about. So far it doesn't sound like I really like it but I have also dropped by at the weekend where its actually possible to get inside the pub and to the bar where they have an excellent selection of drinks, with a number of ales. I have found the staff and weekend drinkers there to be friendly types. They also have 2 TVs for the sport and this is where I finally found something to tip me off the 3 star/4 star fence. I mention sport a lot in my reviews, either from going to see it live or enjoying it in a pub. I'm a big fan of both cricket and football, but when a pub chooses to show to random Spanish football teams (not even the big teams) playing each other ahead of the national team playing cricket it annoyed me and finally made up my mind. I know it probably says as much about the state of the sport in the UK as it does about the pub, but at least I finally get to write my review of this football. In conclusion I would highly recommend this pub at the weekend, if you're not a cricket fan.

I had the most delicious cocktail named Below Deck which was an aperol with strong citrus flavors. We all moved next door to Caravel where we sat over wine and great food. Some of the stand-out dishes were: the chicken liver pate, tagliatelle, and lamb chops. Everything was delicious and the chef made sure all the dietary restrictive diners were taken care of. This is a fantastic place for a date/anniversary dinner. Really amazing atmosphere. I would go back whenever I am in the area again.
