My wife shopped here and found some lovely books (a mystery and a biography.) But in looking at the biography section, she was struck by the overwhelming selection of "victimology". Does the term need explanation? A victim is someone who suffers oppression based on some characteristic, perhaps gender, race, sexual orientation, national background, and so is eleveated in our eyes to a moral high ground. At Brewster Books the shelves were filled with the tales of victims - the same same tales endlessly delivered by the media and by our political discourse. It's an echo chamber. The bookstore also included a "banned book" section that included - get this - The Diary of Anne Franke. What's the message here? White Nationalists are at the gate waiting to impose Nazism and commit genocide? Yet the most banned book of recent times is certainly this: Irreversible Damage: The Transgender Craze Seducing Our Daughters by Abigail Shrier ("banned" by Amazon.com and the ACLU.) We are enveloped in an information ecosystem that endlessly delivers the same ideas, thereby creating an overwhelming and seemingly undeniable reality. Any independent thinker appears insane. It is sad and perhaps scary that totalitarian thought control is now implemented by nice people in a quaint Cape village in a charming bookstore. Huxley was truly more perceptive than Orwell. Oh, when will our Cultural Revolution expend itself, thereby allowing our minds to open up to a range of thought and ideas? read more

I always keep my eyes open when driving through a new town for bookstores, especially independent ones. And of course, being in Cape Cod, here was the most picturesque book shop so I had to stop by. As soon as I walked in, I could see the carefully curated selection of books with current publications as well as older books. I also appreciated the recommendations posted by staff members of their favorites. They had a nice selection of cards, flowers, and gifts. If I lived in the area, I know this would be one of my favorite places! Being a flower lover, I also enjoyed the flower gardens surrounding the place. Still blooming in October. read more

We saw a sign on the street saying that this bookstore sold fresh flowers, so we decided to stop in here and get a fresh bouquet for our friend. The store is open year round and is filled to the brim with books, toys, games, greeting cards, and unique gifts. They carry a large collection of Cape Cod books. The bookstore also hosts book signings, events, book clubs, and story time, many times a year. The fresh flowers we bought were such a good quality they were still beautiful and fresh after more than 2 weeks at our friend's place. read more

My kids and I love this book store. The staff is so caring and they have a truly great selection. I have never been led astray with staff picks. My kids love the extras here too- pens with invisible ink and built in blue light, journals, bookmarks that time your reading. And the flowers are a nice touch in summer. read more

Quaint little bookstore. Staff questioned me on what I like to read, while also offering other suggestions. Although not a huge store, it gave lots of options. Brewster Book Store is my very favorite book store. The people who work there are knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. The book store itself is warm and welcoming - it is organized, clean, and adorable. They have a large variety of books, and are also willing or order anything they don't have on their shelves. Our family ranges in age from 58 down to 13 and they have books for all of is. I love it, my husband loves it, and our kids love it. When we have company, I often bring them to the Brewster Book Store. Honestly, if you are in the area, and you don't stop by the Brewster Book Store, you are missing out! It's the perfect store to visit when you are on vacation. read more

This is a lovely little independent book store that appears to well serve its community. We found a good stock of new books in lots of categories, all displayed in ways that help browsers find some interesting and perhaps offbeat titles. They also have a large children's book space with an activity area - a big plus! The staff was friendly and offered assistance though we didn't need it, and we wound up buying several books, of course. And isn't that the best recommendation of all? read more

We stopped here on a rainy day during our vacation as it is so adorable on the outside. When we stepped inside we realized that we were happy we'd made this stop! There are SO many different kinds of books and little toys you could literally spend hours looking around! The ladies there were so nice and weren't at all nervous about our little one walking around touching things. They have a bunch of cute little rooms (especially the baby room with a lot of board books and little toys) that it kept our baby entertained for a while. I can almost guarantee they would have any book you're looking for and probably a few nice surprises you weren't. I'd definitely recommend stopping by this cute little place, there aren't too many quaint little places around that are quite like this one anymore. read more

I used to come here every summer because I loved the cozy atmosphere and book selection. You're literally surrounded by hundreds of books! But the last time I went, my mom and I politely greeted the women working there and were completely ignored. They just looked at us and said nothing. I was extremely disappointed at their rudeness to not even say hello or ask if we needed help finding anything. I haven't been back since even though I did enjoy the store itself. It's unfortunate that those employees were not welcoming and friendly here. read more

A cool bookstore, though be aware there are no used books here. A lot of great titles just out on the racks that I'd never heard of that I will check out for sure. Very friendly staff. There is also a great children's room with lots of various arts and crafts activity sets. read more
