My husband & I visited the cape for the first time this May (from PA) & were on the lookout for used book stores to visit while there (as always!) We were so excited to stumble upon Reed Books while driving through Harwich & were not disappointed upon entering the store. The book selection was great! I prefer to read newer books & I was so excited to find a huge variety & leave with a whole stack, including The Long and Faraway Gone that I've been searching for used! They have great prices on new books, too, but we just personally like to buy used. The owner was so incredibly kind, excited to hear about us visiting from PA & gave us a great dinner suggestion to the Cape Sea Grille that we followed through with for a nice dinner that evening. Clean space, kind owners, and a great selection. You have to visit! read more

the Cape is my happy place. Being stuck in traffic getting there is my unhappy place. game plan - leave really early and on the way to Wellfleet, take a break in Harwichport at Reed Books, stock up on beach reads and chat with the friendly staff, reminding one of the reason for being there in the first place. No shame when the entire pile at checkout contains not a single page of Chekhov. These folks know I do not want to read nor think of anything too complicated on vacation. A very small bookshop tucked away next to Bonat's and a rug shop. They have a slightly odd selection, but the prices are fine and you might just find that obscure title you are looking for. Lots of parking in the back unless it is a weekend morning. read more

Five stars isn't enough:) This store has been my happy place for 8 years - Whatever vibe you're looking for, Reed Books is there with suggestions, ideas and friendly conversation mainly about the perfect read but also about Harwich, and beyond. New and used - I just bought a 2021 new release for 50% off! Selection is perfect and the old school independent book store setting is worth the visit. When going on vacation, don't order a pile of books to read on the beach beforehand. GO to Reed Books and ask for the perfect book - whatever your interest. You won't be disappointed! read more

Stopped in after checking out the Chatham Library selection of books for sale. These guys were both friendly and knowledgeable. It seemed like a nice couple ran it. When I was there the woman who rang me up commented on each of the four books I chose--a Murakami, Vonnegut, Roth, and another that I can't recall. All rather new and discounted. We talked about said books and she brought up an old movie about one such book that she tried thinking of an actor who played a leading role. It reminded me of when my father watches movies and names old actors. The movie I hadn't seen and the actor had never heard of but she was very nice and I found it interesting. I will definitely be back next time I'm down the Cape. Very clean environment with well crafted selection! read more

The male owner, an older man, was answering my 12-year-old's query about what to read next. She described herself to him as a voracious reader who loved fantasy novels and she went on to list the different titles she had read. She wanted to discover perhaps a new author. He expounded on several titles at length that showed that he really didn't listen to her at all. She was too polite to decline his choices, so she put them in our pile for purchase. She was almost in tears when we got home...not having a book and feeling bullied into HIS choices. I went right back to return them and he yelled at ME saying we had wasted his time. I will never set foot in that blowhard's store and caution anyone to avoid this curmudgeon and not patronize this store. read more

Great used and new books selection for a small store. Reasonably priced books with a wide selection of fiction, nonfiction and children's books. The owners are great--they talked to us a lot about the area . The store and the owners are delightful! read more

Fabulous find- an independently owned bookshop with friendly and helpful owners. I enjoyed browsing here and got some great recommendations from the owners. They even helped do some research on a book I was interested in and ordered it for me. It came while I was still on vacation. The place is clean and well organized into sections. Nice little bookstore! However, the interpersonal skills of the staff (the owner, I believe) could use some serious improvement. While bringing my selections to the front desk, along with my babbling baby, the gentleman behind the counter was checking his phone messages. When he finally did acknowledge me it was to ask me to make my baby be quiet so he could hear his messages. He then repeated his request...to my baby. Needless to say, I left my books and won't return. read more

We make at least one trip to Reed Books whenever we're on the Cape, which is a few times a year. There is a nice selection of books including classics, current books, and books on other interesting and quirky subjects, too! The owners are very nice, interesting and helpful. read more

Great selection of mostly used books at fair prices. I read mostly mysteries and they have a wonderful selection. The owner (Mr Reed I presume) is very chatty and very knowledgeable. Ask him to recommend a book for you if you need some help. Also,he has a nice selection of books by Cape Cod writers as well as books about Cape cod history. Store is right on Rt 28 but park in the rear parking lot. read more

Charming little spot you must make prt of your annual,tour when you arrive in Harwichport. Owners are lovely, so helpful not only about books but anything you could need while vacationing or visiting. They are generous and always helpful.
