You haven't lived until you've tried a cronut! Brewtown in Newtown (see what they did there?) is a trendy cafe nestled into a side street off King Street Newtown. Parking in Newtown is a pain, but if you are patient and go down the side streets, you will find parking. We came to Brewtown at around 2pm after we had eaten brunch already and we were after some delicious dessert. I had looked up Brewtown online and there were loads of pictures of cronuts and i was salivating just looking at the blog pictures. From the reviews I knew this place was going to be PACKED and i hate waiting when I'm super hungry, so I wasn't having brunch here. The reviews were right. There were people waiting and the place was packed! We entered and as soon as we got in we saw the delicious flaky cronuts at the counter. Service was super quick and we couldn't decide what cronuts to get, so we ordered a flavour of each. I believe the flavours were: - Chocolate - Original Glazed - Cinnamon - Jam Donut The total cost was $20, and in my opinion, the best $20 spent! We got the cronuts take away and couldn't help but bite into the original glazed whilst waiting for our coffee order. OMG - These cronuts were to die for! Flaky, buttery, sweet and savoury all at the same time. Each flavour got better and better, my favourite was the cinnamon and chocolate. They weren't overly sweet, and were balanced perfectly! I shared 4 cronuts with my partner, and by the time we had sampled a quarter of each flavour, i was feeling rather sick and suffering from a food coma. My fault of course, ate too quick and was way too excited, but they were cronuts! And they were delicious, and was well worth it! I recommend Brewtown and their cronuts, you haven't lived until you've tried a cronut! Love this place. Just off the main drag of King Street, Newtown, in what used to be the Berkelouw book store. It is a great cafe, albeit a very, very busy one at times. Expect a wait to get a table. The menu is great, although like so many places in Sydney the vegetarian options are limited. Coffee is fantastic, with an excellent cold brewed coffee available. But ultimately, what this places comes down to is one thing. CRONUTS. The food could be awful. The coffee mediocre. The service reminiscent of a school cafeteria. And still I would come here for the cronuts. In case you have missed the memo, cronuts are a mix of croissant and donut, and they are amazing. Try one. Try all of them. This is a great spot for brunch in Newtown. They always have a queue, so if you're planning on going, make sure you account for the 20-30 minute wait. There is an awesome little shop upstairs though so you can spend some time browsing. I've had great meals both times I've been here. The first time. I had the gazpacho, which was not at all what I was expecting. For me, a gazpacho is a cold soup, but this was more like an assortment of delicious purees and charred vegetables topped with eggs. Today, I had the poached chicken and eggs, topped with salsa, a side of cornbread, and sits on top of a delicious coating of creamed corn. The eggs were perfectly poached and the flavours go really well together. I also ordered the pumpkin bread, to share with the rest of the table. It had a ginger cinnamon butter and a lime and honey mascarpone cream. Pure heaven and would recommend for those looking for something sweet. The only downside here is that the service tends to be a bit back and forth. They forgot one of my friends meals and then when it came out it was missing chicken. There is always a line, but they're so popular for good reasons! The food and coffee are great (mmm baked polenta) but the cronut is just unreal. As someone who's invested a great deal of time and effort trying numerous varieties from different places (incl. a certain high profile sydney patissier who renamed it after himself) I could not get myself to like it for what it was...until I tried the ones at Brewtown!! Eating solo, it was easy for me to walk right in and get a place at the bar. But around 2pm on Saturday there was still about a 20 minute wait for a table for two. As I was sitting relatively close to the register, I also noticed that they do an extremely brisk take away business for coffee and cronuts. The space - it's awesome. It is bright and airy and on nice days, they open the doors and it is like you are sitting outside. There are big and small tables and communal spots. I like the aesthetic and appreciate that no one hurries you on your way. The coffee - it is nice to see a large variety of coffee options, but the costs for some of it are crazy. Strange for Americans particularly that one would pay so much more for filter coffee when that is usually cheaper to make/buy. And frankly I wasn't blown away by my flat white. The barista was great, but the roast was not as smooth as other places. Perhaps because I had decaf. Also, very annoying that they charge more for decaf. I just don't get that -- all these upcharges and a vegan pregnant woman has to pay an extra dollar to get a cuppa. The service - everyone working here is nice and super helpful. I was impressed at how quickly they attended to folks needs, how cheerfully they worked the counter, and how meticulous they were with the coffee. I distracted a waiter and the coffee he was picking up spilled a drop on the saucer -- he had the barista remake it. I can't imagine that happening in NY. The food - lots of options for all types of diets. Arrived fast and fresh and somehow disappeared quickly. I had to get a cronut because I have never had the patience to wait in line for one in NYC and my beau has been talking about them for years. It was yummy (but I still don't see why folks would wait 2 hours for one in NYC). My pipe dream -- maybe some cafes in Sydney will start having wifi. Highly Recommended. read more

We have been to Brewtown several times before. We love their food and coffee. The average waiting time (for a table), on a weekend, is between 10-20 minutes. They are known for their cronuts, grilled black sausages and baked polenta. Today, we had the chance to try out the Golden Gaytime cronut, served cool. Great brunch options - loved the cured ocean trout with avocado and persian feta on rye. Excellent (though hellar strong) coffee. For lunch, duck ravioli was good if a touch small, but the vegie burger was apparently quite ordinary, with a rather tasteless patty. Loved the cinnamon cronut for a junk indulgence, but agree with another reviewer that it certainly doesn't have the texture of a good croissant. We had quite a wait (25 minutes?) so hopefully the hype dies down a bit! read more

I chose a passionfruit "brewnut" /Cronut and it definitely lived up to my expectations! The cafe itself has a great vibe and friendly staff, I'm looking forward to going back there to try more on the menu! Overrated. I really thought I'd have a great experience. The waiter was a total asshole. I ordered a cappuccino and an eggs Benedict. The cappuccino was the worst I've had during my month stay in Australia. The Benedict consisted of one slice of over toasted brioche, cold deli cut ham, one poached egg, topped with cold pre-packaged tasting hollandaise. Other meals looked better-portion and quality wise. I wish I could write a good review on this place since I was SO EXCITED to visit for the first time. I had high expectations from the reviews I read and was sadly disappointed. We told the host that we had four people, so we waited about 15 minutes for them to take us to a table with other people. One of our friends left for a moment to come back so we told our server that we had one more coming since only three were sitting. He looked at us then rolled his eyes and told some other server. The host moved us to another table (even though they knew we had four at the beginning). The same server asked us if we wanted to split the bill or pay together. We said split. Because we were already pretty unhappy with the service, we went to pay the bill because we didn't want to stay longer. My friend went to pay her part at the man at the counter told her that we can't split bills. We continued to tell him that our server had asked if we wanted to and then he repeated without any kindness that we can't split the bill as if we were stupid. All in all the service was not good. I didn't feel welcomed there and neither did anyone I was with. Sadly I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone I know because of the way they made us feel. read more

Because we were relying on public transportation during our time in Sydney, it was quite a trek to get to Brewotwn. However, it did not disappoint at all. Their latte was fantastic. Love at first sight. I walked into Brewtown Newtown knowing I would be delivered a wonderful meal and sure enough, it arrived on my plate. I had the FigJam salad with amazing fresh Figs and umami-licious Jamon on my first visit and then superfood salad on my second. Everything they make is delicious and interesting. My only real issue is they only offer sparkling mineral water which didn't quite go down smooth with my orange ricotta waffles on my third visit. Elvis came back from the dead. And he was delicious. I arrived at Brewtown Newtown knowing exactly what -- or should I say who -- I wanted to devour. After strolling in for a Thursday lunch, it was no problem at all getting a seat. The unbranded ninja waiter sat me down and without looking at the menu, I set into motion the order that will bring me face to face with the King of Rock and Roll. Remember Elvis? He's back. In burger form. Elvis rocked my jail house. His cronut exterior was sweet and delicate with each bite shedding more pastry flakes, as if treating me to a private strip tease. This was a stark contrast to the flavour of the juicy man meat that laid inside that demanded your full attention. And boy did I give it to him. It was a great show that left me with tangy mayonnaise over my satisfied lips. But as quickly as my trip to Graceland started, it was over. This place is one of Sydney's darlings and a real Newtown gem. The atmosphere is really convivial, especially given that it's tucked away in a surprising little side street. It gets full pretty fast, but they do a great job keeping a waiting list and getting people seated quickly. The iced coffee was quite bitter, but the flat white was a cut above what you'll find in most of the city. The pumpkin bread with home made jam was a real breakfast treat, and although the Brewnuts are so sweet I can't really call them breakfast, they sure are tasty--and messy! I'd come here to catch up with a friend over brunch or coffee if I wanted to have a nice long chat, or come in first thing when they open at 8 during the week, but after two coincidental visits in two weeks, I'm not in a rush to hurry back. read more
