I've been coming here for about 12 years. It's only once a year so it's not terrible. But the wait is over 90 minutes sometimes. Funny thing is when you get in the room with him you forget how long you've waited because he's so caring and good with the kids. I only deal with it because like i said it's only once a year. We travel from Suffolk County, Long Island to see him for my now 11 year old and have been for the last 6 years. My daughter was born with a couple eye conditions and he was recommended by our ophthalmologist. To us, it's worth the drive, time and even waiting room wait -even if frustrating at times. He's performed her two cataract surgeries and is amazing. He takes his time with you, explains thoroughly and answers questions with patience. After being treated by multiple ophthalmological surgeons for a giant retinal detachment, one of the senior surgeons told me that Dr. Campolattaro was the best person to correct the strabismus (crossed eyes) that resulted from all the previous surgeries. Dr. Campolattaro and his staff did extension examinations and offered clear and understandable details about the surgery. It went superbly. I was referred to Dr. Campolattaro by my ophthalmologist for strabismus. I am 49, and when I met him he treated me with such warmth. Said, "Hi, nice to meet you," and shook my hand." And I was thrilled. I felt welcome and respected and he apologized for the long wait. Then we talked about my condition and the possibility of surgery. I am still not sure if I am going to go for the surgery, but if I DO decide to have it, I will have it with Dr. Campolattaro for sure. He answered my questions, and told me that if I had some more questions later I can always contact him. At the end of the visit he said "nice to meet you" again and shook my hand again, and offered me a lollypop which I absolutely took. The front desk staff was busy but very polite, and the lady who took the measurements (unfortunately I didn't catch her name) was great and explained everything, and the young lady who performed some tests on my eyes at the very beginning of the visit was great as well. For us, this was a 3 star experience solely because of the looong waits in Dr. C's office. Anywhere from 1.5 hr to 3 hrs. Every single time. Yes, it is true that Dr. C sees many patients with serious problems and he sometimes needs to stay in the operating room longer than planned. I get all that. However, his office is should be more straightforward when accepting new patients. They should tell you that waits are long. In fact they should tell you they only see patients with serious problems. For rudimentary needs, they should refer you to another doctor. Surely Dr. C is not short of patients so they can afford to do this. It is only fair! My time is not any less valuable than Dr. C's time so you have to respect my time as well. And with these long waits, that respect is not there. For that, this practice gets ZERO STARS. The only reason I gave it 3 stars is, obviously Dr. C is a very good doctor. Even if he doesn't spend a lot of time with you (because my son doesn't have very serious problems) and even if it is a bit hard to follow his speech, it is very easy to recognize his immense expertise and experience. His demeanor with kids is great. I can only imagine how helpful he must have been to many with more serious vision issues. For us who are lucky to have been blessed with less serious vision issues, there are many other top doctors in the city who offer a better experience from the wait room to the examination room. In the end, we decided to say bye bye to Dr. C and switch. Our time is better used elsewhere where waits are no more than 30 min. and we get more of the doctor's time. Our slot with Dr. C can be used by another patient who has more serious needs. This practice can avoid these bad reviews by defining their service area and target group of patients better. read more

Dr. C is by far one of the best pediatric ophthalmologist in the country. He treats children with very complex eye problems and he is a phenomenal surgeon. The reviews where people complain about waiting to see him is because he treats very difficult cases. Children who are blind and/or loosing their vision. The people who are waiting are waiting because their medical condition is not as urgent as others, hence the wait. If you don't want to wait go see some tier 3 doctor who graduated last in their medical school class, I am sure there is not a wait there. Dr. C prioritizes children who have urgent medical needs with their sight. He is an amazing doctor that can handle the most complex cases. Worse doctor, NO patient care. I was a 18 year old desperate to fix my stabimus I looked on the web. I read his reviews so I went with the surgery a few weeks later AND THAT WAS IT. There was no follow up, no call NOTHING. Being young and I had no family that supported me going through surgery. I did not know there is a post op period where I am not even charged. But no check up, call or anything to see how I was doing. Being older and seeing how invovled doctors are with their patients when they CARE is shocking how I was forgotten. 6 years later and I wish I wrote a review sooner to save people from being treated like this. Dr. Campolattaro operated on my husband's strabismus. The only regret is that we did not do it sooner. Living in NJ we went to his office in Westchester and were taken promptly. Surgery was done in Ft Lee. NJ in his surgical center so we did not have to go to NYC. The day after surgery, his eyes were back to normal. We have had the worst experience with Dr. Campolattaro. Not only did we have to wait 2 hours with a 1 year old for our first appointment, we have also had significant problems getting help with follow through. Over the course of the past 2 weeks I have called 4 times trying to get answers to my questions so my child can get help in wearing her glasses. Each time I called I get told I will get a call back and then nothing. We are never going to the office again and I definitely suggest you think about going here in the future too. read more

Our experience with Dr. Campolattaro was excellent. He is busy for a reason! Our daughter is 8 and has worn glasses x 3 years. When we moved, we needed a new pediatric eye doctor. Getting the first appointment took some time but that is expected and it was not an emergency, so we were fine waiting a few weeks for a new patient appt. If it had been urgent, they would have worked us in promptly. The front office staff works hard to keep up with the constant flow of patients. When I called, the receptionist was efficient and helpful, but I would not describe her as exceptionally friendly. The visit with Dr. C was great. He has a wonderful bedside manner and clinically is very astute. It was such a great visit for our daughter; we had him see our teenager. My son who is now 7 years old has had 2 surgeries with Dr. C and i have absolutely no complaints. He is amazing from the minute you walk into his office he makes you and your child feel extremely comfortable and at ease. He answers all your questions. His staff is also amazing. Yes you do have to wait but that is like with everything else. I rather wait and be serviced the way he does than be rushed and unsatisfied. I recommend him to anyone. The best doctor to perform eye surgery on my son. my son needed three eye surgeries to correct his strabismus. We started at the age of 3 years old. Now my son is 19. And you would never be able to tell he has surgery on both of his eyes. He made sure that my son was comfortable and the first patient of the day due to his diagnosis of cerebral palsy and his allergic reaction. He make sure to be present to the family before the procedure and answer all concerns ,very well taken care of and any concerns we had. he was always on call. I adore Dr. Brian Campolattaro! He is by far the best ophthalmologist in NYC, smart, competent, hardworking, nice, even when he's been working day and night nonstop. You couldn't get a better, more competent doctor. It's true, sometimes the wait time is very long, but that's his office staff, not him, plus he's so much in demand because he's such a wonderful, great doctor who doesn't turn people away, no matter what, even if all they need is an eye exam. Everyone in my family wears glasses or contacts. We left for a couple years because of the waiting time and tried some highly recommended "Doctors" closer to the UWS, where we live. The 1st one was thorough and competent but stopped seeing us because we didn't have eye problems that required surgery (this doctor probably didn't want to work as hard as Dr. Campolattaro works, wanting to make the big bucks with as little time as possible devoted for his patients). Instead, we were introduced to several other doctors in his office, all of whom were "okay" until we met the worst "doctor" (I wouldn't even deign to call her a doctor) in the entire world. She was muddled and incompetent and gave my son the absolutely wrong prescription, wasting 2+ hours of our time trying to convince him of his wrong prescription. What a dingbat! And after I wrote a bad review on her, she made her office staff give her several bogus 5-star reviews to compensate for her lack of. Anyway, after the horrible experiences we had in Dr. Steele's office, we virtually ran back to Dr. Campolattaro and have been seeing him ever since. Knowing that he's such a kind, wonderful, smart, and competent doctor and refuses (unlike Dr. Steele) to turn away patients who don't require surgery, we now know that the wait would be very long and so we always prepare ahead of time, bringing books and video devices to watch movies while we wait: Hey, It's much better to have a totally competent and kind doctor who's very much in demand and gives you the best care you could possibly have, than an incompetent and lazy doctor who doesn't care very much about their patients! read more

You do not have enough stars for Dr. Campolattaro. My strabismus was really bad. In California where I live I was told that my problem was so bad that 2 or 3 surgeries were needed and no guarantee of the outcome. After researching for months and reading about Dr. Campolattaro I figured out that if he could operate on 100 kids a day in the Dominican Republic he could fix my eyes with one operation. He did just that!! After 7 years of being cross eyed from Graves Disease my eyes are great! I am writing this review 2 weeks after surgery. Dr. Brian Campolattaro thank you again. read more

It has been a few months since I wrote this review and it has taken so long for our children's eyes to adjust - not to mention the problems at school that poor vision has caused. I went to this doctor highly recommended by my pediatrician. When we walked into the waiting room there were a ton of people and I asked how long the wait would be to which they replied 3-4 hours. I was not told this over the phone and was shocked since I have two year old that would now miss a nap and her lunch. After we waited for an hour I told the receptionist I was going to wait outside and go change her diaper. The restroom had no changing station. She let me know she would tell me if they call our name. When I came back in and asked she said they hadn't called us. After another 20 mins I checked with the nurse and it turns out they actually had called us. Instead of the receptionist apologizing she blamed everyone else (the person setting up the appt, the 188 patients) anyone but herself even though she said she would listen for our name. After that we waited another 15 mins to be called back. They dilated my daughter and told us they would call after 45 mins when they were ready. They did not call and after an hour I had to call to see what was going on. No apologies again just told to come in in another fifteen minutes. After waiting since 11:45 am. We finally got called back at 3:30 at which point we were told we were next. While sitting in a second waiting area I overheard the nurse say that another patient needs to be seen before us at the doctors request. I don't care how "amazing" this doctor apparently this. The wait is ridiculous and I can get the same care elsewhere with better bedside manner. read more

Incompetence abounds. Notice how many reviewers say their prescriptions were wrong and worsened their child's problem--or even that this doctor reversed right and left on their young child's prescription? It's a chronic problem. After three attempts at the same [extremely simple] occlusion treatment order for the child's school (applying a patch to one eye to treat amblyopia), the third order was STILL wrong! And strangely, each new version of the order was written with the same date as the original one, despite that date having passed over a month ago. Thankfully we weren't dealing with surgery! Make sure you have a big breakfast and take lunch and dinner with you because you'll be waiting to see the doctor all day long! My daughter had an appointment today at 3:30pm. Well, it's 6:07pm and my husband just walked out of the office because he couldn't take it anymore. People in the waiting room said they had been sitting there for 4 hours! Dr Brian performed surgery on my son at the age of 4 yrs old. We needed to patch the good eye so the brain would not shut down from the age of 2 to his surgery at 4 years old ,so the surgery would be 100 per cent successful. Dr. Brian Campolattaro is truly an Amazing Doctor!!! He was highly referred to us by a good friend. My son was born with strabismus. I had spent four years seeing pediatric ophthalmologists and vision therapists. My sons eyes remained crossed and he saw double vision. I interviewed some specialists from around the US for surgery. When I met Dr. Campolattaro, I knew immediately that he was the doctor to perform surgery on my son. He is very compassionate and treated us like family! The eye muscle surgery turned out wonderful. I have known Dr, Campolattaro for almost 21 years. He was my second pediatric ophthalmologist, the first one was awful. I was petrified of my eyes being dilated. He came up with another way, they use of a spray and was kind and very caring about the situation. He worked with my fear until I grew out of it. I am blind in one eye and he is diligent about taking care of it saying you "never know what advances they will have in the future." Not only is he an excellent surgeon and he gives good advice and is very patient about explaining all the options, as my situation is complicated. He has always been very supportive in my continuing in school. I am just finished Vertinary School and I intend to specialize in ophthalmology for animals. I am certain that meeting him and being under his care has a part in this decision. He is quite a dedicated and skilled doctor and a very special person because he cares about his patients. This guy is like a magician. After a harrowing few days with a sudden change in my 18 month old daughters eye, we were cleared of most frightening outcomes at hospital. First thing Monday morning, I called the office and got an appt for tues...called a couple of hours later bc I was really anxious and they told me to come right in. He was AMAZING with my daughter during the examination. Brilliant bedside manner, calm, explained to me what was happening, demonstrated for me what was actually going on with my daughter so I could physically empathize and understand her perspective. I just tried to get through. Waited 5 mins and then heard someone talking for a few minutes not realizing they had answered the call. I called back and sat on hold for another 5 mins and then called back and pressed one for the physician line just to see if I can get a hold of anyone to speak to. Got told off for pressing their physician/emergency line and put back on hold until I lost patience and had to get back to work. Oh well! I went to see Dr. Campolattaro for my convergence insufficiency problems. Not only did the doctor neglect to inform me about the details of my problem and prescription, he was not interested in giving me vision therapy (even though my eyes hurt and that is what is recommended for my condition) he also told me he gave me a contact prescription which was nothing but a breakdown of what was wrong with my eye and neglected to phone me back after I tried him several times to find out why I was in severe pain. My surgery was done at Hudson crossing surgery center literally 15 minutes outside the city. It was clean and a pleasure to be in a nice place. Every time I come to Dr. Campolattaro's office, I have to wait at least 1 and a half hours before he sees me (for 5 minutes). I do not have complaints about the doctor himself, but the consistent inability of this office to operate in a punctual manner, even when the waiting room is mostly empty, means that I would highly recommend never coming to his office for an appointment read more

Dr. Brian is amazingly talented. I was so distraught when my daughter was diagnosed with bilateral Duane's Syndrome. The doctor I went to first had given her glasses as treatment. After getting a second opinion from Dr. Brian, he perfomed corrective surgey to fix her cross eye as well as improve her vision and now she no longer needs glasses. Not only is he extremely knowledgeable but he is also very warm and caring which makes my daughter, my husband and I feel so comfortable and confident that she is getting the best possible care for her syndrome. read more

Waited for 2 1/2hrs for an annual checkup and met with the Dr. for 5 minutes. It's utterly ridiculous!!! When we got there both waiting area was packed with people. It's like a park/zoo. They were definitely overbooked but when asked they said it was normal. Patients were still going into the office at 4:45pm when there's a whole load of patients still waiting to be seen. It's a madhouse. They dilated my child's pupil and was told to wait in the waiting room for 15 min. which turned out to be close to 1/2 an hr. They have no respect for patient's time. This is our 1st and last time there. If he's that busy he won't have time for my child if we need him for something more serious. My child and I left the office feeling tired and beat. It is not worth the wait. There's other competent Doctor's out there. read more
