Terrible customer service. I tried for months to get a refund after they mistakenly charged me for spousal coverage, even though I don't have a spouse and sent several messages to them. Constant issues: * I leased a new car from the dealership, several months later I'm told I never had a photo inspection. The dealership sent me documentation that they set up the insurance with Brian Downes agency correctly (a photo inspection is not necessary for a new car from a dealer). I ended up getting a photo inspection at recommended outlet on LI. Brian Downes agency confirmed they were in receipt. * Several months later a notice of collision suspension... no photo inspection. I took photos and sent it to the agency who confirmed receipt * Nearly two years later I get a call that my collision has been suspended for over 6 months because I had no photo inspection. I took more photos and they re-implemented my collision * I moved and got insurance in my new state, sent proof of insurance and requested they reduce my NY policy to min liability requirements for NY. They charged me for collision * Requested they send me a bill rather than continue auto-pay as I was switching banks, they debited my account. I got a $5 charge, but whatever. * Canceled my HO policy when I moved (I have the closing docs to prove it). Claimed they never received it, never received the unused portion back from them. Constant issues, poor communication... it's too much work doing business with this firm. read more

In the process of purchasing a new vehicle, I contacted Brian Downes--my insurance carrier-- for a quote and received a quote for $269. I then got my car and called to pay the bill and the rep Aaron said the amount was $299. I asked Aaron on the phone why the quote went up and he offered to investigate. He then called me back and said the payment is actually $337. When I asked Aaron for a supervisor he referred me to Linda. I spoke with Linda, the nonchalant, disingenuous supervisor, who didn't seem to understand or sympathize with my frustration of receiving 3 quotes for one car and she had no real solution for resolving the situation due their incompetency. I then asked her to speak with Aaron concerning the new $337 quote I received to finalize the payment moving forward. She then called me back and said the $337 was the adjusted amount and my actual insurance on my new car is $407. At this point, I realized that if I couldn't afford the insurance on my new car, Brian Downes was not capable of informing me prior to my purchase. Needless to to say, I am in the process of changing my insurance carrier for both my home and car after receiving misleading information from this obvious unprofessional, unscrupulous insurance carrier. Please save yourself the heartache and choose another reputable insurance company. P. S. Brian Downes this no way to run a business and you should be ashamed of your unethical tactics. In March, I noticed that my policy amount increased by about $20, but didn't question it since everything has gone up. Then I noticed that the policy amount increased again in April by $50. I kept saying I was going to call but did not get a chance until I saw the third increase of $21 in June (totaling $90 in less than 6 months). I spoke to Darrah who could not clearly explain why my bill went up because the statement does not explain it. She stated that she would call the billing department and call me back in one hour and instead she emailed me a response that STILL DID NOT EXPLAIN THE INCREASES TWO HOURS LATER. I emailed her to call me and she NEVER did. I then called again and spoke to Aaron who was nice and trying to be helpful but again, stated that he would have to speak to someone in that department. He finally called me the next business day and could only explain one increase which was that the low-mileage discount that I normally received monthly (since I drive my car LESS THAN 5K A YEAR) was removed. I'm NOT sure who removed it, because it was NOT me, but he stated that it may have been when I order the beacon to enroll in the FREE "Drive Safe & Save" program with the hope of getting ANOTHER DISCOUNT. Somehow, this impacted my rates to increase, and he could NOT clearly explain why. I am currently waiting to hear from Lisa, the Office Manager, and hope that she will be able to explain what has happened along with returning my statements to the regular amount that I always paid IN ADDITION to a credit for the increases I unjustly paid along with an apology for all my time and agent Darrah's lack of professionalism. Completely unprofessional. If I could give no stars or negative stars, I would. My brother and I decided to apply for an life insurance. The process was easy, just filling out papers. Couple of days later, we had to do an voice interview. The woman on the phone got my name wrong, so I corrected her then. When it was my brother's turn, she said he was not in the system. We contacted one of the agent member, Annie, and she said everything is "under control" and "fixed." Couple of days later, someone came for my blood and urine test. As I was looking at the printed document before I signed, my name was wrong, again. Confused, we called the same agent again about it- again, she said she had everything "under control." It's over a month and half now, and my brother still hasn't had that "interview" nor his blood and urine test. On top of that, this morning we got only my billing statement addressed to another different name. I called in this morning to complain, and literally I was put on hold and passed over like some hot potato game until it reached the agent I've originally signed up with. This time she says it was "fixed" but at this point, I can't put my trust in this agency nor company if they can't even fix a simple problem that honestly shouldn't have been a problem to begin with. read more

I agree with the other review if I could give them a zero I would. The reviews about their unprofessional behavior is spot on. I am always very hesitant to write negative reviews about a business but the level of apathy of this insurance agent needs to be relayed to anyone that will listen. The day after one of the worst storms our area has ever seen they took their time opening up instead of opening early to help their customers. They had a woman with no knowledge just answering the phone. I was told that an agent doesn't help their customers file a claim. They gave me a customer service number to make a claim that I was on hold for over 2 hours. I inquired what coverage I had and was told they couldn't tell me what coverage I had. So basically they are only there to take your money. According to their responses that's their only function. Save yourself the headache and go elsewhere where they will take care of you as a customer. If it wasn't for the amazing service I received from the claims representative at the main service center I would have cancelled my policy with them on the spot. STAY AWAY FROM THIS AGENT! read more

I wish I could give this place NO stars. I have been with Statefarm for years and my fiance and I are treated like total crap all the time with no empathy. All payments made on time and one payment that doesn't go through they make it there business to NOT find a way to contact us and we get a lapse and get our plates taken away as if we dont NEED our cars for our kids and every day lives!!! This plave is disgusting, Lisa and her whole team have no empathy and do nothing to help us! I hope you all read this and know that I will be changing companies. Sick of the same BS that goes on. When I first signed up for a policy with Brian Downes agency it was fine. They were friendly, and all was good. Then we got a new car, and when I updated our policy, I was quoted a specific amount per month, something like $274 (I can't recall the exact amount). The next month, my debit card was charged $340. I called to ask why, and they said they must have quoted me the incorrect amount when I called the month before. No one could quite remember, as it was always a different person calling me about my policy, I almost never spoke to the same person twice. So fine, my monthly rate is $340. Then it came time to renew my license, although I waited a bit too long and needed to call the agency with my new license number in order to keep my policy valid. Right from the DMV, I called State Farm (not the agency, but State Farm corporate), to give them my new license number. I was told it would be taken care of. Apparently, the entirety of that month was not long enough to update my records, and I was never charged for that month of insurance. But rather than call me about it to rectify the situation, Brian Downes agency chose to simply tack on a third of the monthly payment to my next month's payment- without telling me. So when I saw a debit for over $400 the next month, naturally I didn't understand. When I called to ask about it, they explained what it was for, and said they "don't usually call if payments are going to be different". Really? You just take the liberty of adding on additional dollars to someone's payment without notifying them? Finally, I decided I had enough and sought out a different insurance company (by the way, I am paying nearly half as much with Geico now). I called and spoke to someone named Kim, who said I should fax the cancellation letter. I did so, putting it to her attention, and sent her an email asking her to please tell me if she received it. I never heard from her. I called her the next day, and she said she couldn't find it, it must have not gone through. Ok, fine. I then scanned the letter and sent it to her via email, asking her to please let me know when the received it. Again, no response. So I called her the next day, and lo and behold! She received it and was in the process of cancelling my policy. Good thing I called her again, or I might never have known whether or not she received the letter. I am so thrilled to be done with this completely unprofessional agency. read more

It is with a heavy heart that I write this. I had hoped it would not have to come to this, but at this point I need to share. I am insured by State Farm Insurance. The agent is Mike Marziliano from the Brian Downes location. I have Renters Insurance as well as a Personal Articles Policy. Mr. Marziliano had assured me that my camera equipment was covered under my Personal Articles Policy. Then I was robbed and all of my equipment was stolen. Approximately $15,000 worth of equipment. Mike Marziliano never actually added my equipment to my policy even though I have email confirmation that he would. State Farm is now claiming that not only is my equipment not covered, but that if Mr. Marziliano had actually added my equipment to my policy as promised, that I still wouldn't be covered because my equipment is not covered if it was intended for business purposes, which means the agent counseled me in a grossly incompetent way. I provided all the information Mr. Marziliano requested and not only did he provide an incompetent recommendation, his supervisor also agreed that he counseled me incorrectly and did not communicate company policy properly. I am astounded by the lack of professionalism of State Farm as a company, and speechless about the incompetence of the agent, Mike Marziliano. Think twice before using State Farm. I didn't get double or single checked, I got only lies and no coverage. read more
