I was referred to Dr Hollander by my regular dentist. He performed a LANAP procedure on me. Which is a laser surgery on the gums. Upon my first visit for the consultation, I was incredibly nervous because of many bad experiences with dentists in the past. I met Peggy, his assistant, and she was amazing. So, sweet and helpful. She immediately put me at ease and explained the treatment options to me, scheduling and answered any questions I had. Dr. Hollander is a magician. I told him about my sketchiness and asked him to treat me like I'm five please. He did. And it was perfect. I felt so at ease when going there that I requested to do my future cleanings there. It has been over a year since I went in for my first consultation and for the first time ever I actually don't get nervous going to a dentist. This was all Pre-Covid19. After Covid19: I had to cancel a cleaning and they were closed for a while. Which is totally understandable. I went back for my next cleaning on their first day back. You could tell they were all getting used to the new procedures. I was perfectly happy to be extra patient and spend a little more time than usual to allow them to get comfortable with the situation. They asked me to sanitize my hands upon entering, had a big protective glass between patient and receptionists. Peggy was all geared up and took my temp, they sanitized the counter before I even walked up, cleaned the pen before handing it to me, everyone was properly wearing their masks. I felt so incredibly safe. I didn't think it was possible to feel that comfortable anywhere that wasn't home, during this pandemic. They had industrial strength air purifiers in each room. They did everything perfectly and set an unreasonably high standard. During this visit, Dr. Hollander gave me an x ray because my wisdom tooth was angry. He referred me to have them removed at Dr Limchayseng's office, in Novato. I practically begged Dr Hollander to do it for me because I feel so comfortable there with them, but he said Dr Limchayseng does this all day long and he'd be better at it. I trusted him. I wrote a review about that experience, which was awful. I called Dr Hollander and told (I believe it was Toni) everything about it. She was shocked. Needless to say I didn't get my wisdom teeth removed, because I didn't even stay for the consultation. When I told her that I want a new referral, she gave me one right away and said they would not be referring anyone to Dr Limchayseng anytime soon. She referred me to a Dr in the same building as Dr Hollander. She offered to hand deliver it to them so she can check it out and make sure it's safe and I would feel comfortable there. She would let me know if she saw any red flags. I thanked her profusely. I only wish I could make Dr. Hollander my regular dentist but I am glad I can at least get my cleanings done there. I have received periodontal work from Dr. Hollander for over 20 years, including treatment for gingivitis, bone grafting and 8 dental implants. All of this work has been successful, pain free and stress free. Recently I broke an implant crown that my regular DDS was unable to get out of my jaw. He suggested I see Dr. Hollander who did the work lickety-split. This man is friendly yet highly professional and his assistant, Peggy, is both skilled and exceptionally personable. I lost an old crown and elected to have an implant as it was on top of a previous root canal. The extraction and implant were accomplished in one visit, in about one hour. It was the fastest and most painless tooth extraction I've ever had. Dr Hollander is professional, polite and efficient, his office staff is delightful and friendly. The implant is recovering nicely and the crown will be placed in 4 months (to allow the implant to heal). So far the best experience I could've asked for. Highly recommend. read more

I've had two pre ious surgeries of gum grafting over a decade ago and all went well. No rejection, no problem. Although, I can't say the grafting really did much to protect my roots much. But now I decided to return to get more done and his temper is demeanor is irrational. He does not make the patient feel welcomed and is actually quite rude and short. I asked questions around sedation and was told one can try oral sedation abs if it doesn't work, and you haven't eaten breakfast you can get it. That's what his office told me. I had to go to him twice!! Today was absolutely inappropriate. No Zoloft that what is office told me was untrue, he basically was calling me a liar and that he didn't feel he should perform surgery on me. I agree!!! I don't want an upset angry irrational person who's temper is as short as can be cutting into my mouth. What a blessing this miscommunication was. Absolutely zero compassion for the patient. No way would I let him cut into me thank God it worked out this way. This man works two days a week so nearly retired. It's obvious he needs to retire. This patient care is no longer a part of his practice. Go retire abs try medicating. Seriously. I've already found someone in my city that I'm delighted to meet. Looking through reviews and see another patient with failed gum grafting - my experience was the same. Lots of VERY expensive work that was below standard and does not last the test of time. All of my family members that spent years trusting in the work of Dr. Hollander have all had to have all the work redone. In fact, he recently suggested a second opinion on work recommended by a dentist. His recommendation not only saved my teeth from unnecessary procedures but also saved me thousands of dollars. His front office manager, Toni, is amazing as well. She is knowledgeable, caring and constantly looking out to make sure things are done properly. I had to have a couple of teeth extracted, and a bridge removed, in preparation for a couple of implants. Dr. Hollander, and his staff, were all outstanding. Let me also give you some context. I HATE going to the dentist. (I believe they now call it dental anxiety.) I felt safe and secure with Dr. Hollander. During, and even after, the procedure, I had no pain whatsoever. I did not even need to take the painkillers he prescribed. Also, I have terrible veins, but Dr. Hollander expertly inserted the needle for the I.V. Finally, I have no dental insurance. Therefore, cost was an important concern. So, I shopped around. Dr. Hollander's rates are quite reasonable compared to others. If it would be possible to give more than 5 stars, I would. I had a gum graft done by Dr Hollander and the entire process could not have been better. There was zero pain (aside from the initial jab of local anaesthetic), the wound healed well, his staff are all super friendly and easy to work with, and the Dr even called me on a Saturday to see how I was doing after the procedure! If you need a tooth extracted, I highly recommend Dr. Brian Hollander! He is located in sunny Novato. His specialty is periodontal and dental implants. I was referred to him by my dentist because of a cracked tooth. My options were a bridge or an implant. I felt that a bridge was "old school". Thus, I immediately made an appointment with Dr. Hollander. I arrived at his office with my fears in high gear. I was not sure what to expect. WOW! I was greeted by Tony, the front office Manager, Cindy and Peggy who are the surgical assistants. I was impressed with their professional greeting, as well as their great smiles and energy. Immediately dropped my guard! That day the office was busy, phew... that's a good sign... The oral examination went well with the doctor and Cindy. Dr Hollander was very informative and gentle while Cindy diligently took notes. After the examination, Cindy and I went behind closed doors to view a presentation. The presentation was about what to expect from the procedure. After viewing the presentation, Cindy and I talked about the financial aspect and the pre-surgical requirements. I LOVED the ideal that they chose to have this talk behind closed doors, instead of the reception area. My recommendation of Dr. Hollander is based on his consistently calm and professional chair side manner; along with a great staff. The first experience with Dr. Hollander was positive. Brian Hollander, DDS and his staff are dedicated, caring, and extremely skillful professionals. After researching with friends and meeting with a couple of dentists, I chose Dr. Hollander because of both patient recommendations, his professional achievements, as well as his ongoing academic work at UCSF. I initially came to him with an unknown abscess associated with my lower back molar, the cause of which my dentist could not locate. Dr. Hollander quickly checked the area and diagnosed the situation as a cracked root. He patiently explained the options I had including root removal (he had a fancier name), installing a bridge, or placing a dental implant. I decided on the latter. He discussed in great detail the implant process with me, then directed his assistant to provide me with a custom consultation which included review of dental models, instruments used in the process, etc. Dr. Hollander's staff is also great. From the warm smile from Toni that greets you when you enter the office, to Vicki who does a great job in providing hygienist work. Last, but not least, Peggy (who assists during dental procedures) does a great job of ensuring that all your questions are answered, explains each step of the dental procedures, and provides excellent patient care and comfort. They worked with my insurance company, were flexible in scheduling appointments, and completed the work within the expected timeline. While getting an implant is never a fun thing, I am pleased with the expert job they did placing my implant that looks so natural and more equally functional to my original tooth and highly recommend them for any periodontal needs. read more

Update 3/11/14 Yesterday I went for my implant surgery. Dr. Hollander and his staff are phenomenal. As with my surgery in December when I had a tooth removed and prepped my gums for an implant, I went thru the implant surgery without ANY pain, discomfort or even soreness! I was amazed! Not even any swelling...no need for pain meds or even Tylenol. My husband was shocked. I would highly recommend Dr. Hollander! 12/2/2013 Amazing periodontist! I cannot say enough. My general dentist referred me to Dr. Hollander for "crown lengthening"...I had an old crown on a tooth...general dentist took it off and prepared the tooth for a new crown but then determined there was not much tooth left...so off to Dr. Hollander I went for a consultation. He examined the tooth and agreed that there was not much tooth left. He explained my options (go forward with the lengthening, do a bridge or place an implant...he even drew pictures to make sure I was clear and could make the best decision for me). I decided to do the implant. I have thus far only been through part one...the removal of the tooth and preparing my gums/jaw for the implant...but my experience has been good. No pain or discomfort and Dr. Hollander even called me that evening to make sure I was doing OK. As in Steve C's review....I could not agree more. Dr. Hollander is professional, kind, caring...his staff are all knowledgeable, caring and patient as well. They answered my many, many questions and the office is clean and professional. They were flexible with appointments and they are working with my insurance and letting me know what to expect financially, rather than a big "surprise" at the end. I still have the actual implant surgery to do after full healing of my gums/jaw, but from what I've experienced thus far, I'm sure the implant surgery will be successful and go smoothly and that I will be pleased with the end result and long-term solution. I'm extremely happy to have been referred to Dr. Hollander for an infected tooth...With all the given information I provided him about the problems I had been having, IE., pain, swelling, fever, and the time line of the problem, it was his diagnosis that the tooth was fractured, and should be removed even though none was evident via x-rays, or visual inspection. He said there was a small chance a root canal could save the tooth, but would most likely fail. I decided to trust his diagnosis of a fracture, and have the tooth removed. Turned out the tooth was indeed fractured, thus saving me the angst of going through a failed root canal. The surgery went without a hitch, the infection is gone, and the follow up examinations show the gums are healed, and the bone graft is growing normally. A big THANK YOU to Dr. Hollander, Peggy, and Toni, for their exceptional work, and high standards of excellence. You're awesome! Brian did a bone graft to prepare me for a dental implant, and made the entire experience painless and stress free. The graft took perfectly and my implant went in without a problem. Brian also extracted my wife's wisdom teeth, and she told me that Brian was wonderful during the whole process, and made sure that her recovery was pain free. Brian is also a great guy. read more
