Jan 28th, tooth pain began couple days prior.
    Lindsey S.

Okay.. so far.. I'm completely ambivalent.. so three stars right now because I just don't know how else to even feel. Late January I got what I thought was an abscess in my mouth, ignored it and the pain got worse, google images told me I had an impacted wisdom tooth.. as I was trying to make an appointment elsewhere my mom made my appointment here, Originally, I didn't see any negative reviews and went with it. My appointment to be seen was a couple days in, went, painless and easy while I'm literally shaking due to my fears, dr elder was nice, the younger dude who took my xrays was super nice, I felt ok about the decision for surgery made I was thrown this giant bill and was told I'd need tO have aLl of it ready the day of surgery in less than a week, So say the least due to personaL reasons, I wasn't and had a super awful couple days right before and ended up missing my appointment They called my mother and she rescheduled Honestly, I don't remember literally anything from the day of surgery Absolutely f**king nothing I was given no information on what exactly was done No info on care or what todo next Nothing This was done Friday morning I've cried six times since Friday morning Now being late night Sunday, I still can't open my mouth, half my face is beyond swollen, In literally so much pain, have no idea what todo or how to take care of this I had this weird feeling like something was moving, I move my tongue slightly and feeel something loose in my mouth- disgusted I spit it and look to see- my stitches.. at first the swelling went down and the pain went from a everywhere feeling to a small localized area,, I was excited for about 3 minutes Very quickly my jaw is throbbing, I can't open my mouth again, blood, stabbing pains randomly deep in my jaw, neck is swollen.. Not only am I traumatized from this experience but I know this is just the beginning of what I'm assuming too be hell- I'm going to just show up first thing In the morning and demand to be seen but I literally am just speechless about how to even feel about this- let alone do I ever waNt to go to the dentist again. Not too happy this is my experience after avoiding the dentist for six years. Too be continued..

This is the swelling after my wisdom teeth extraction, and my normal face.

I was referred to dr Elder to have my wisdom teeth extracted. When I went for my initial consult, I did not get to meet dr Elder. A different staff member did my exam and looked at my X-ray. I was nervous about going back and having a surgery performed by someone I never met. So I read reviews online. Felt better. When I got there for the big day, there were many rewards and certificates on the wall for Dr Elder. So I felt better. I read them all carefully. When the dr came in, it was not dr Elder. He hurriedly introduced himself, I told him I was nervous, he said "I'm not." Showed me my x-ray and told me my nerves could be damaged. Told me I will be very very swollen, more than I can imagine. Put the mask on me and I was out. When I woke up I was SOBBING. The nurse was rubbing my face and saying wake up. She brought a wheel chair in and said get in, you can leave now. I couldn't open my eyes, or speak, or feel my legs. There was no way I was getting in the wheel chair. My husband carried me since they were rushing me out. The days that followed, I was more swollen than I could've imagined. And I had Trismus (lock jaw) I could not open my mouth for 2 weeks. 2 weeks post op I saw my regular dentist and he said I was not healing well. I had more swelling than normal. And the numbness in my tongue never went away. 3 months later, my tongue is still numb. I called today and talked to dr Riley who did my surgery. He said another surgery could possibly fix the numbness, but might not. I have nerve damage. There is no information about Dr Riley online, nothing on the walls in the office, and his name is not posted anywhere. That really freaks me out.

A simple sterile room equipped with the proper tools. Most important!

Unfortunately, maybe it was only my experience but in my original wisdom tooth extraction consultation there I was told by a kind and descriptive dentist to ask for a in-depth image and to have everything explained to me and she explained what she could so I felt secure that the actual wisdom tooth extraction experience would be similar in descriptiveness. Unfortunately for me it wasn't. While I will say the ladies and man assisting and who were in the room were very kind and caring, offering me comfort, the oral surgeon lady who was going to remove my wisdom teeth was very blunt and belittling in my opinion. To explain, she simply told me all four of my teeth are getting removed and I asked why because I had previously been told my upper wisdom teeth were very high up (a lot of bone between my mouth and wisdom teeth) and I could wait to have them grow out further before removing them and she instead of answering my question just said the bone regrows because I'm young. When I asked how far up or low my top wisdom teeth are in my mouth, she said I don't understand your question. I started to cry and get anxious because she wasn't answering my questions, trembling because I was afraid, and she instead repeated herself in a belittling tone. (I had thought she would be descriptive and explain my worries to me calmly like in my original consultation). Ultimately, I asked for my dad which was when she explained herself slightly better. In the end, she said I never told her about only getting my bottom ones out (which I did in the beginning before I got scared and starting crying) so we ultimately left after she said she wouldn't proceed, yes, my father did get agitated but only because I was trembling and crying in fear and feeling unheard. It was as if they were rushing me and out. No beside manners, nobody introduced themselves the got straight to asking questions, pressure check, didn't ask before pulling my shirt up to put heart monitor pads on me, no regard for patient commodity, they just kept going despite seeing me crying. No comfort, just rushing. I am 19 and this was my first ever surgery, if she had even just spoken to me kinder or more professionally, I would have been fine but she just proceeded to insert my iv, and repeat herself without (I feel like) regards for my fear or feelings. Please do not fear! The other employees were kind and helpful, but she gave me a new fear that I didn't know I could get. Kindness and compassion goes a long way.

It took 1.5 months to get my first introductory cleaning + x-ray exam due to him being so busy. But, I now understand why he is so well-liked and highly requested. The dental hygienists and staff were so welcoming and friendly. They made me at peace the whole time. Somehow, my hygienist was able to clean my "6-year old" teeth in 1 hour... I could feel and see the difference instantly! It was amazing. Dr. Chui is a warm, friendly and thorough dentist. His office is equipped with the latest technology. While I was lying in the chair, I was able to see the exact teeth he was referencing and talking about via a large computer monitor hanging from the roof which was connected to a livestream camera... so awesome! Dr. Chui was able to show me on the screen where a cavity was forming and how I was grinding/clenching my teeth down. I could clearly see the uneven borders and enamel and even hairline cracks in my teeth through the screen images. I assume I have been doing this for years but Dr. Chui is the first dentist to go out of his way to educate me on this. While there, I even decided to purchase a custom-mold dental guard. This product is offered by Dr. Chui's office. Dr. Chui had two options to choose from and even insisted I purchase the more economical option to see if I utilized the guard enough before purchasing the more expensive one. He was upfront, honest and not "pushy" in any regard. In two hours at Dr. Chui's office, I learned more about dental hygiene and my own teeth structure then I had learned ever before. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Chui and his staff to anyone in the area looking for a well-mannered, thorough and friendly dental office.

Upon my first visit for the consultation, I was incredibly nervous because of many bad experiences with dentists in the past. I met Peggy, his assistant, and she was amazing. So, sweet and helpful. She immediately put me at ease and explained the treatment options to me, scheduling and answered any questions I had. Dr. Hollander is a magician. I told him about my sketchiness and asked him to treat me like I'm five please. He did. And it was perfect. I felt so at ease when going there that I requested to do my future cleanings there. It has been over a year since I went in for my first consultation and for the first time ever I actually don't get nervous going to a dentist. This was all Pre-Covid19. After Covid19: I had to cancel a cleaning and they were closed for a while. Which is totally understandable. I went back for my next cleaning on their first day back. You could tell they were all getting used to the new procedures. I was perfectly happy to be extra patient and spend a little more time than usual to allow them to get comfortable with the situation. They asked me to sanitize my hands upon entering, had a big protective glass between patient and receptionists. Peggy was all geared up and took my temp, they sanitized the counter before I even walked up, cleaned the pen before handing it to me, everyone was properly wearing their masks. I felt so incredibly safe. I didn't think it was possible to feel that comfortable anywhere that wasn't home, during this pandemic. They had industrial strength air purifiers in each room. They did everything perfectly and set an unreasonably high standard. During this visit, Dr. Hollander gave me an x ray because my wisdom tooth was angry. He referred me to have them removed at Dr Limchayseng's office, in Novato. I practically begged Dr Hollander to do it for me because I feel so comfortable there with them, but he said Dr Limchayseng does this all day long and he'd be better at it. I trusted him. I wrote a review about that experience, which was awful. I called Dr Hollander and told (I believe it was Toni) everything about it. She was shocked. Needless to say I didn't get my wisdom teeth removed, because I didn't even stay for the consultation. When I told her that I want a new referral, she gave me one right away and said they would not be referring anyone to Dr Limchayseng anytime soon. She referred me to a Dr in the same building as Dr Hollander. She offered to hand deliver it to them so she can check it out and make sure it's safe and I would feel comfortable there. She would let me know if she saw any red flags. I thanked her profusely. I only wish I could make Dr. Hollander my regular dentist but I am glad I can at least get my cleanings done there. After calling around to other local orthodontic offices, I found comparable replacement retainers for nearly half the cost, and overall pricing differences that can amount to thousands of dollars for similar services. I've had orthodontic care at other offices in the past, including a more affordable practice in Novato (now retired) and Wilson, and the quality of results was the same. Unfortunately, this office now feels far more expensive than others offering comparable care. While the staff and outcomes have been ok, the pricing no longer feels competitive or reflective of long-standing patient relationships. I would encourage prospective patients to compare pricing with other offices before committing. Also, most advanced offices offer scanners instead of molds, so much more precise!
