How did I have a BIOPSY and then be sent home with ZERO AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS?!?!?! And how the hell am I supposed to know on my own that I was to avoid ANYTHING IN THE VAGINAL AREA for 2-4 weeks????? Terrible service. RISKY service. I could have ended up with an infection!!!!! Interstitial cystitis is a chronic condition and could be very painful that your literally in bed or stuck on the toilet.. That was me 3 years ago.. I was referred to a Urologist in Torrance 2 different times and that lady was no help.. She said I don't know what you want me to do I don't have a UTI.. That's what I thought I had before.. Then I told my general Doctor I'm in so much pain still so I went to a gynocologyst and at that point we thought it could be endometriosis which I ended up having so and had laparoscopy surgery and recovered but still was in a lot of pain and going peeh 11 to 18 times at night and was in the worst pain ever at this point.. I go back to my general Doctor and he sends me back to a different Urologist in Torrance with this Doctor I do believe he was trying to figure out what was going on but was seing him for almost a year and he was changing my antibiotics and treating me for an active bladder and did electrical stimulation.. Unfortunately nothing was working.. I decided to search on my own for the best gynocologyst/Urologist and I saw Dr Lauren De Winter!! I made my appointment!! The day I saw her I was having a hard time walking and was in tears.. I told her all of my symptoms and she tells me she thinks it's interstitial cystitis but to confirm I would need surgery.. So we start the process and I have the surgery.. She was percent correct!! She said my bladder was in bad shape and I had hunner ulcers she took care of them and also injected me with botox to relax my bladder so I don't have to peeh as often and also tried to stretch my bladder while being under anesthesia... It was a success!! Doctor De Winter gave me back my life.. I thought I was dying or had cancer I just couldn't live under that much pain anymore.. I'm on medication and get instalation that help with my bladder pain. Those are the best!! I like to get them before I go on a trip or once I start feeling uncomfortable and pressure. Doctor De Winter saved me she really did!! I recommend anyone that is having a hard time getting a diagnosis or anyone that needs a gynocologyst or urologist.. She cares about her patients and is the most sweetest/hard working Doctor I know!! She has so much knowledge and definitely knows what she is doing!! Patient care is her top priority. During my visits, she spent the time to listen and answer my questions. Her answers were thorough, thoughtful, and based in science. If she was ever unsure, she would research it and then get back to me. I always felt secure in knowing that I was in great hands. She is absolutely the best and am lucky to have her as my OBGYN. She also has a group of incredible nurses who are efficient and kind. Every time I have messaged them (either via the Memorialcare portal or over the phone), they have responded back within minutes to at most a couple hours even to questions that are not time sensitive. When I have an appointment, rarely do I have to wait. The nurses get me in and take my vitals and information. Dr. Karm is usually close behind. Overall, she is the best at what she does and has a great team of nurses. If you are lucky to have her as your OBGYN or even get to have an appointment with her, you've hit the jackpot!

The first time she performed this procedure on me, she said told me to take an aspirin before I arrived. Then prior to taking the biopsy she told me it might "Pinch" or there might be some "Pressure." I didn't know what to expect since I had never had this procedure done outside of a surgical room under anesthesia with a previous doctor. After the experiencing this procedure with Dr. Karm, I found this procedure to be incredibly painful - and was really shocked that all I was provided was advice to take an aspirin prior to arriving. The second time Dr. Karm needed to perform a cervical biopsy on me, I asked her if I could have something for pain management and she said no because, "It's too quick of a procedure to justify needing pain management." She went on to explain that the pain management she could provide would take longer than the procedure itself, so she said she would not be providing pain management for my cervical biopsy for that reason. Taking an aspirin prior to having someone perform a biopsy that felt like having your cervix hole punched repeatedly was not proper pain management as far as my needs were concerned. In my experience, Dermatologists perform skin biopsies and Dentists pull teeth quickly, but both do so with appropriate pain management. I feel the amount of time it takes to perform a procedure does not equate to the level of pain management needed.

I scheduled my appointment about three weeks in advance and clearly explained what the visit was for -- a uterine niche (isthmocele) repair consultation. When I arrived, I went through the normal check-in process: weight, height, blood pressure, etc. A medical assistant then came in and told me that the doctor couldn't see me unless she had my medical records. I said that wasn't a problem and that I could get them sent over right away. I also pushed back and asked why the doctor couldn't at least come in and meet me during my scheduled appointment time -- I had an appointment, and she had that time blocked for me. Still, the assistant said no, the doctor wouldn't come in until she reviewed the records. The assistant then encouraged me to call my other doctors to get the records, and she and the staff worked closely with me to make it happen. They were even on the computer trying to download and properly upload everything for the doctor. So the doctor was fully aware that we were actively getting her everything she needed in order to see me. Despite that, once all the records and images were sent and confirmed, the assistant came back and said the doctor still wouldn't see me because her schedule was now full. Dr. Olsund never came out to meet me, introduce herself, or even apologize for the situation. For a patient coming in for a specialized procedure, this lack of professionalism and basic courtesy was unacceptable. I left feeling completely dismissed and disrespected. Either the doctor isn't confident in performing the procedure, or she simply didn't care enough to speak to me directly. In either case, I would not recommend her. A doctor who won't even come in during a scheduled appointment -- after all records were provided -- should not be trusted to perform surgery.

Not with Dr. Sullivan. I've been to her office three times now, once for my annual, once for an ultra sound, and then a follow up. She took the time to listen to my concerns and she answered my questions in a way I could understand. She's thoughtful, friendly, and understanding. At no time did I feel rushed in any way. And her office is so comfortable - big comfy chairs in the lobby (not your standard medical waiting room chairs), her staff is friendly, and I've never waited more than 5 minutes... even when I arrived 20 minutes early. I love that I can check in online, upload my medications, prior labs, anything and everything before the appointment. I appreciate the reminders AND the complimentary valet parking. All in all, a very comfortable, thorough, and informative office and staff. It's not easy finding new physicians. I am truly impressed with, and grateful for, Dr. Sullivan.
