I chose Brian based on reviews and he was all of 5 Stars! Quick, knew his business, had parts onboard, and was very fair! Highly recommend.

The sooner Mark goes out of business the better it will be for the citizens of Libby, MT. and the…read moresurrounding area. I have had one issue after another with Mark personally and with his crew. Mark was very accommodating while giving me a quote, but that all changed after his crew started work. After the duct work finished Mark refused to install the furnace until after all the sheetrock work was done. We had to use space heaters to heat the house. He said he didn't want to get dust in his furnace. While doing work under the house I noticed that the metal boots at the registers were not insulated. It took multiple calls to get him to send someone out to add insulation. Mark also refused to set the thermostat the way I wanted, saying that he would set it the way he wanted. After moving in the furnace didn't seem to be heating one end of the house. I discovered that the insulation on the ducts under the house was coming off and the metal duct was exposed numerous places. I left numerous messages and texts and he never answered. Finally I caught him in his office and he at first refused until Bri got involved and scheduled someone to fix the insulation. It was an half-assed job with many places still not fixed. I had to hire another company to get the insulation fixed. Then the crew installed a 1" filter at the cold air return in the ceiling. The filter would rattle when the furnace came on. I found that they had installed a bracket for a 2" filter. The solution they did was to bend the tabs in the bracket so the filter was in a bind and would not rattle. I asked why they didn't install a 4" filter on top of the furnace. The answer I was told was that the 1" filter had more surface area. After my calculations I found out the 1" filter has about half the surface area of a 4". The air return grill is so flimsy that it sags below the ceiling. Mark has refused to fix the air return. I finally got so frustrated I called another HVAC company for a service call. They found that the thermostat was wired for an outdoor temperature sensor but one was never installed, a $15 part. They also set up the thermostat the way I wanted it. Again, you would be risking thousands of dollars to have Mark's business do your HVAC installation.

When I bought my house, one of the first things that I wanted to do was to install a heat pump. My Trane furnace was only 7 years old and when I called Mark Hilyer from Columbia Mountain Mechanical out to give me a bid, I asked him straight up if I could trust him to sell me a good heat pump that would serve me for a long time to come. He said, ' It is a plug and play situation with your furnace and I will fix you up with a good system.' Well, he came out and installed a heat pump and it worked well for that summer but when I went to change the thermostat from summer to winter, the heat pump wouldn't work and it became encased in ice! When I called Mr. Hilyer, he told me that I would have to wait until hunting season was over, even though it was 32 degrees in my house! After 2 weeks, he finally came and you could tell that he was angry, he played around both downstairs with the furnace and outside with the heat pump. He didn't tell me what was wrong with it, he just said, 'It's fixed now.', and left. Every season for the last three years I have had to call this nasty man. This year when the heat pump would not turn on to cooling, he wouldn't return my phone calls and when I finally did talk to him, I asked him what am I supposed to do with this heat pump that will not work? He said something to the effect of, he has been fixing it at his cost and he wasn't going to do it anymore, that I had been a nightmare since the very beginning. Then he told me to buy a new furnace. I called his competition out, Formula Fabrication who, as it turns out installed the furnace in my house. After spending a couple of hours under my house and outside, they broke the news to me that my heat pump is not designed to work with my furnace and it will cost almost $5,000 to get a heat pump that will. I have since learned that Mr. Hilyer had removed all the nameplates from the heat pump because he is not authorized to sell that heat pump. Now I am wondering if he sold me a used heat pump!!!??? How would I know? I thought a small town business would take care of their customers but not this man. Steer clear from this guy, he has no integrity at all.

I am posting this as a public warning: there are other companies and electricians you can find to…read moredo these kinds of installations, and I suggest you do that or figure out how to install the system yourself. Additionally: on Google, 2 of Carbon Recall Kalispell 5 star reviews come from people with the same last name as the ops manager (Vogel), and an additional five star review comes from someone with the same last name as one of their other associates (Schermerhorn). Take that however you want. Find the equipment that Carbon Recall installs (Sol Ark inverters, HomeGrid batteries) and buy them somewhere else. My initial project with Carbon Recall ended with a three star review. The information and communication between signing the original contract and installing the system surrounding schedule, what was my responsibility to prep the site, what they would actually provide and install, was terrible. They responded to my negative review asking how they could improve the relationship. I hesitantly hired them for my system expansion primarily because they knew the context of the original installation and expressed desire to make it right. Communication was somewhat improved during this project, however, upon conclusion I was explicitly pressured into modifying my negative review. I did so. But now, I am posting my final review. They billed me for repair of what they and the inverter manufacturer stated to be a workmanship error in Carbon Recall installed wiring on the AC side of the inverter. This, despite their service agreement explicitly stating that all work associated with diagnosis and repair of faulty workmanship would incur no cost. The invoice came without explanation and they barely responded to my calls or texts disputing and requesting clarification except to insist that I must pay it, and implicit threatening to withold/limit future service if I did not. Well, I am already not counting on them for future service. They get two stars instead of one only because they appear to use quality inverters and batteries.

The results are exactly what they projected.  James Vogel had a graph for me showing how much solar energy we could expect through the different months of the year and was right on target. They have also found places in our home that could be improved to save us more money.  They gave us the information and let us decide without being pushy.  They have a great service to offer and do so in a professional manner.   I already refer them to my friends and will continue to do so.
