What an excellent surgeon! I had seen several surgeons for a ruptured ACL before coming to see Dr. Smith, and immediately he asked, "Do you really need knee surgery??" That question, (and coming from a surgeon!) assured me that he was concerned for my overall healthcare and not just the potential surgical fix. He was upfront, easy to talk to, and took the time with all my questions, even the stupid ones answered! The surgery itself went extremely smoothly. We opted for an ACL replacement with cadaver ligament. Prior to surgery a long-acting nerve block was placed. I went into the hospital at 10am and walked out on crutches at 4pm. My pain was minimal, I only took a few advil the fist week. By the second or third week I was hobbling around at work. It took a total of 3 months for complete range of flexion to return and 5-6 months for strength (i.e. squats etc). It has been 5 weeks since my total Knee replacement. On June 10, 2015 Briant Smith did the procedure at Sutter Hospital.. I went home, on June 11, 2015. I was able to stand, walk, (with a Walker) and endure a 2 hour car ride, I stopped Oxycodin after the first week. All other pain pills after 3.5 weeks. Now I take Ibuprofen as needed (rarely) I've been walking without a walker, crutches. or a cane sine my 3rd week after surgery. I am 77. Most people are shocked by the rapidness of my recovery. All of my experiences with Dr Smith have been positive. From my first visit, where he met with me and my wife, and explained everything I could expect, from the surgery, to yesterdays visit, where even he was surprised at the rapidness of my recovery. I had partial knee surgery on 2/20/2018.I moved from San Mateo, to Santa Rosa. Hoping I'd find myself a good doctor . And I sure did. Dr.Briant Smith MD is such a GREAT doctor. He explained everything thoroughly . And in a way I'd understand . The scar on my knee is Barely noticeable . It's been only five months and I'm doing pretty well when it comes to walking. Sutter Hospital is great everyone is polite ,everyone is nice , I did not come across anyone in that facility that was negative in anyway. Dr. Smith has a nurse by the name of Lisa. Dr Briant Smith has shown to me to be a Very capable, compassionate, caring and knowledgable physician. He goes out of his way to ensure that his patients are receiving excellent care. Unfortunately, ALL docs have patients who do not have the "Ultimate" experience with them and are unhappy with their results. Sometimes changing docs, getting a different perspective is what is needed. That doesn't necessarily reflect poorly on the physician. I have changed docs for same reason. Dr Smith I can say,...would be the 1st to recommend another competent physician if I was not happy with him. Somewhere in the world is the "Worlds Worst Doctor", ...and unfortunately someone has an appointment with them. Dr Brian Smith is not that doctor, not even close. The pain in my shoulder finally exceeded a 10+ pain rating. I contacted Dr Briant Smith at Sutter Pacific Medical. Upon arrival for my appointment I was asked to fill out the remainder of the usual paper work. Much to my amazement I was called for x-rays before I had completed the paper work. Dr. Smith explained in a patient and in detail what the x-rays showed. He further explained what the options were with surgery being the last of those options. His reassuring confidence and presence made my decision easier. We will try the options but if it comes to it Dr. Smith will do the surgery. I had a total knee replacement performed by Dr. Smith. From initial diagnosis to surgery to post-op, this surgeon is top-notch. Extremely competent, very good about setting expectations, and approachable with respect to any questions and concerns I had. Obviously cares about his work and his patients, and I would recommend him to anyone who seeks advice or care in this field. Dr. Smith was outstanding! I had my second TKR done in Dec. 2020. I was referred to him as I wanted it done using the robot. I cannot say enough about Dr. smith as well as his staff. They were all professional and kind. He spent a lot of time with my husband and I explaining my CT as well as the procedure. My first TKR was difficult and required a second surgery. Naturally I was NOT looking forward to this second one. I feel that I had the best outcome possible and would not hesitate to go back to him or refer another individual to him. I've seen Dr. Briant Smith for 3 surgeries including a broken clavicle as well as a broken scapula repair. Both surgeries were quite lengthy and extensive with the final surgery involving hardware removal of plates, screws, and wires. I received excellent medical care and felt Dr Smith answered all my questions thoroughly and thoughtfully. Dr. Smith specifically worked me in the next day for emergency surgery because I was in so much pain and discomfort. I had a stress fracture of my right femur and Dr Smith performed surgery and "rodded" the femur. It has been almost miraculous! Prior to the surgery I was using (1) a walker or (2) a wheelchair or (3) crutches and was at times experiencing excruciating pain. The day after the surgery was like the difference between night and day. I am now fully recovered, pain-free, and walking up to a quarter of a mile each day. Dr. Smith is an outstanding orthopedic surgeon. I had two partial knee replacements (six weeks apart) and it literally gave me a new lease on life! He was thorough, meticulous and had great knowledge about his specialty. I couldn't have picked a better surgeon. Since my surgery, I've lost over 55 pounds and can walk up to 6 miles a day. Prior to surgery, I was in a great deal of pain from my bone-on-bone osteoarthritis. I was walking with a limp and a cane, taking the maximum amount of Tylenol allowed. Dr. Smith used the Mako robotic on my knee and my recovery was so fast. I saw Dr Briant Smith for knee pain. He completed a thorough exam and spent a long time reviewing my X-rays with me. He discussed all the treatment options including surgery. Had a partial knee replacement 6 weeks ago. Knee far more stable than before surgery. Dr. Smith and his staff were phenomenal to work with. Compassionate and responsive.
