So I've known they have the best Cuban Sandwich this side of Havana. But this morning I got over medium eggs, ham and Swiss cheese on a croissant. It was toasted perfectly. Finally was able to come here and am definitely glad I did. I experienced everything other reviewers wrote about. The large selection of antique merchandise will keep you busy browsing. Afterwards, you'll be able to relax and dine on an excellent variety of menu items that will satisfy your palate. I ordered the grilled Reuben sandwich, which was by far one of the best I have had. The staff were very pleasant and the entire experience was definitely worth the visit. I should mention too that the facility, including the restroom was very clean. What a great little local spot in the heart of downtown Galax! I was on a weekend drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway and started craving a big cup of black coffee. Briar Patch popped up in my location, and I decided to venture a few miles north into Virginia to give it a go. First of all, the place is adorable and charming. When you're visiting a small, off-the-beaten-path mountain town, Briar Patch is exactly the type of place that you hope to find. Although I was just stopping in for coffee today, it looks like they have a pretty extensive food menu -- including a respectable barbecue selection (even whole hog!). One thing to note is that because this place is so dang lovely, it can get a bit crowded. And although there is a marketplace attached to the cafe, it looks like they have different operating hours. When I arrived I had to walk through the marketplace side to go to the restroom, but all of the lights were off over the merchandise and there was no one working over there. Very much appreciated the attention to detail outside of the cafe. Pumpkins, bails of hay, and strings of lights rounded off this picturesque little gem of a find. read more

It's places like this that make you not want to leave. We visited for the 4th of July holiday and we really lucked out on being so close to downtown Galax. This town is on its way to big things and the Briar Patch marketplace and cafe is leading the way. Located right off of Main St there is nearby public parking. We were fueling up for our day on the New River and needed coffee and carbs. Thankfully Briar Patch delivered. I ordered a sausage roll and cafe mocha and my love went with a bagel and the red eye. Delicious!!! In fact I loved my sausage roll so much I've started making them at home, though I haven't quite perfected them yet. The antique shop is fabulous with a little bit of everything. Next time we are there we definitely want to take the time to check out the record selection. Since we were on our way to float on the river and rain was called for in the afternoon we were short on time. Had a chance to meet the owner who was lovely and you can tell she loves the town and is passionate about what she does! My boyfriend and I found this coffee shop while camping at Cliffside-Galax. His battery for his sleep apnea machine lost power faster than we anticipated so we needed to find a spot to charge it. The owner was very accommodating and gave us a spot to charge it. This place is much more than a coffee shop, the food is delicious! We got a sausage roll and the breakfast casserole. Both tasted homemade. The coffee was also delicious. I got a vanilla chai tea latte with almond milk which was heavenly. We loved it so much that we came back the next day. They also serve lunch and have specials daily. I highly recommend. read more

My wife ordered the chicken salad bacon wrap (it had good flavor and was prepared well) and I ordered the old-time meatloaf sammich (the meatloaf was a bit bland and needed something else in it but was the perfect temperature, the bread was nice and soft, and there was nicely melted cheese on top; the red sauce was good) The potato salad was good. We ordered a chocolate chip cookie for dessert. They may be cooked on site, but tasted like a generic dough. Not like mama made. The servers were very friendly. Overall, this place was ok. read more
