Whispering Firs Bed & Breakfast Lodge - Beautiful sunset from the decks view

Ahh, Whispering Firs. A tale of two sides, if there ever was one. My wife and I stayed here…read morerecently and had some very good experiences and thoughts...but also had some very negative things as well. We had originally booked two nights, but because of the negatives we ended up staying just the first night and checked-out early. Here's the tale of the tape: The Good: - Linda and Vic (the innkeepers) are very nice. Extremely friendly and easy to talk to, Linda made us feel at home straightaway and was great company and conversation during breakfast. - Speaking of, the food was really good. We had blueberry cream cheese pancakes, bacon, and scrambled eggs for breakfast. Along side juice, fruit, and coffee/tea. Linda was also very accommodating toward dietary concerns too. - The property and view is gorgeous! Located up on a mountain area, Whispering Firs overlooks the valley and you can even see the Sound and Whidbey Island. - The house itself is warm, comfortable, and inviting. There's a beautiful deck on the backside that it multi-tiered and has a walking path around little ponds. This would be great for entertaining and lounging. The Bad: - To get there, you have to drive up a half-mile gravel road that is full of potholes and bumps. It's narrow and not something that a regular car can navigate quickly. Wish we had a 4x4 vehicle. - The bed in our room (the North Suite) was way too high. It sounds weird to say that, but at roughly 3 feet high, it was a struggle for my 8 month pregnant wife to literally climb in and out of. - There were no curtains on the windows...just blinds that didn't block out all of the light and sight lines. So, there was a big lack of privacy seeing as the windows looked out onto the deck. - This room is located right next to the breakfast room, so it is extremely loud in the mornings. Breakfast is normally served at 8:30, but our morning had a group that wanted to eat at 7:00. That meant at 6:30 things got rolling on the other side of the wall and we heard it all. Neither Good nor Bad, Just Depends on You Point of View: - There is a large collection of stuffed animals (the taxidermy type) throughout the house and bedrooms. A hunter's paradise...so may not be up your alley. All in all, this could be a lovely place to stay; but it just didn't suite us and fit our needs. For someone else, it might be perfect. In this review, I'm simply wanting you to be better informed that I was. Hope it helps.

Tabs left open are subject to an 18% gratuity. Bertelsen Winery provides indoor and outdoor seating. Orders are placed at the counter. Table service is limited. The round wine barrel tables indoors allow conversing with everyone seated uncomplicated; eye contact and sound. Wine tasting fee is $15 and waived with the purchase of two bottles. Wine can be purchased by the glass or the bottle. Water is self-serve at the counter. Food items are light, ranging from cheese starters, salads and pizzas. During our visit we shared a few different bottles of wine, each of us favoring different blends. The White Blend bottle for $24 was a favorite for the couple ladies that preferred sweeter wine. We shared the Beet Salad for $16: Arugula, roasted beets, goat cheese, pickled red onions, pistachios and balsamic vinaigrette. We shared the Baked Brie for $16: Fig & Hazelnuts served with focaccia bread & crackers. We shared the Don't Go Bacon My Heart Pizza for $20: Olive oil, mozzarella blue cheese, pear, bacon, honey drizzle and rosemary. Staff was friendly. Overall, Bertelsen Winery was a great choice for all of us ladies to catch-up over some wine and light lunch. I look forward to attending future events outdoors.

Equipped with a Bluetooth speaker to complete the mood! Service was friendly as they were still working out details of this new feature. There were a couple times when we needed more wine or wanted to order more food and there were longer checkin gaps. With the reservation time being limited, we hoped for more frequent checkins. Overall fun time, wish we could've stayed a bit longer but moved our party into the tasting room after. Fun way to pass a winter afternoon!

    WHITE BRANCHES

My friends took me here for my birthday. As tea ladies we go all over the state, different states,…read moreincluding different countries. We go to different places at least four times a year together, or on our own. One of the gals heard about White Branches on IG. I was surprised I never heard of the place. I've researched every place that's serves afternoon or high tea. It was at least a two hour drive each way for us but it was so worth it! When you first walked in the ladies said to me that this is my kind of place. That's because I'm a musical theater actress and when they saw all the items you can purchase that I wear they knew this place was for me. Then walking through the Alice in wonderland looking through the walking glass towards the theater. I felt at home like I wanted to step on stage and sing. I was overwhelmed by all the mask, tiaras, facinators, and gifts you can purchase because I wanted them all. I did spend a pretty penny, but I know that I'll wear them to all my events. But let me tell you about the food. So the last time we went to Victoria BC had high tea at the Empress we were all disappointed because it's not the way it used to be. The food was not impressive. Come to find out they have a new chef. Now White Branches...it was only Holly and Matt who is the owner working. The savories were delicious, the bread was so fluffy, the desserts were every single favorites of mine. They must've known I was coming. Every Mmmm that came out of my mouth. I could eat all my desserts because I was so full so I took them home for my snack. But the best part were the scones. My friend and I had to bring back the scones with the crunchy top that was sweet( I can't remember if it was peach) and soft and warm in the middle. So I took a couple home, my husband and one of my daughters ate them. Don't leave any for me...ugh! But my daughter who has traveled around the world because she's a flight attendant said that it was the best scone she has ever had. I hope Matt keeps that scone because next time we drive up we might order more to bring home. We are planning a spring time tea where will stay the night, see the tulips, then tea at white branches. Btw talk about tea, they had every flavor we loved. Also compared to a lot of the high tea places by where we live. White Branches prices are more reasonable that driving two hours away is worth it.

Maplehurst Farm Wedding Venue - So beautiful

    Maplehurst Farm Wedding Venue

What is meant to be the most exciting day of your life is often the most stressful…read more The flow of your wedding, the needs of the guests, and trying to stay on schedule all distract you from enjoying your big day. It may not seem like it, but the venue you choose greatly impacts your stress levels. Pick a good venue, and your wedding will run smoothly, pick a bad venue, and it will be chaos. Maplehurst Farms is designed to simplify your wedding experience so that all you have to do is enjoy the ride. We were skeptical at first about paying a big price tag for a venue. I always joked that I've never done this before--getting married, that is--and I didn't know what we needed, how much it should cost, and whether or not we were getting ripped off for the sake of "marriage" like so many other services you have to pay for. We decided to get married at Maplehurst because it is a beautiful venue. Everything went off without a hitch and it was a perfect experience. All of our memories are of looking deeply into each others eyes, dancing under the lights. And we owe much of that to the amenities that the venue offers. Everything at the venue is designed to make your wedding easier. They have countless decorations, furniture, and place-setting options that can be used to set up the barn for a uniquely beautiful reception that fits your style. They have a guest house on location where you and your wedding party can stay for several nights leading up to the wedding day. This allowed us to stage food and decorations and it greatly simplified the logistics of the wedding day, letting us focus on getting ready and enjoying our champagne, rather than worrying about traffic and timing. The best part of our wedding was having all of our friends and family celebrating together, and staying in the guest house with our wedding party was one of the highlights. They have a great team of people who are there to serve and support you. They accommodated all of our questions and needs, helped us source local services like caterers and the makeup artist, and they cleaned up the venue after we were done. The owner, Jessie, understands that this once in a lifetime experience can be stressful or beautiful -- and everything about the venue and the services they provide is designed to make your day simple and special. If you want your wedding to be an unforgettable experience with none of the hassle or stress, Maplehurst is the venue you should choose!
