What a magical gem! We came here a couple of weeks ago for a summer evening concert. The whole evening was so dreamy. From easy parking. A stage - beautifully lit with lights. Outstanding sound. Came here for a concert on a Saturday night. All of the employees were super friendly. It was great place to come with my toddler. One star off because: 1) it was impossible to find info on the food options before the show (it was just pie, lemonade and what appeared to be pupusas, good thing we brought food); 2) wine was served in a small motel-style glass so I couldn't smell the aroma (I understand the concern about broken glass, but still); 3) the prohibition against regular height chairs was not enforced and someone put their tall chair right in front of me when there was plenty of space on the lawn. In all, I'd return for a concert and a regular wine tasting. read more

This was the cutest little family-owned vineyard we stumbled upon since we were camping on the property. My friend and I decided to do a spontaneous wine tasting and it ended up being the highlight of our trip. Hopper was such a kind and amazing host. He made us feel comfortable and welcomed. Jim, the owner's brother, joined us and he was also the sweetest man. Stuart, the owner, drove by on the tractor and stopped to wave at us. It was amazing learning about the history of the vineyards, the owners, their families, and the wines. The wines...they were all so goood and even better with great company! Highly recommend doing a tasting and getting yourself bottles of your favorites to take home or to the camp. You will not regret it. They've really built such a great community there. Hopper encouraged us to explore the pottery studio across during our tasting before it closed. We ran into Amanda, one of the studio artist, and she was so kind to give us a quick tour of the ceramic studio and show us all the cool pieces. She even gave my friend and I both a little cup that she was testing a glaze on. I definitely recommend checking their schedule ahead of time before you come to see when they have classes scheduled. 100% would come back again for their live events, ceramics class & of course to enjoy some great wine and company. This was such a quaint little spot for wine tasting. We were staying in Arnold and went in to Murphy's for the day. On the way bay to Arnold we saw that they were open for tasting. The young lady pouring (I don't recall her name) was very friendly and knowledgeable. She took us on a tour of the property, our glasses in hand and told us about the concerts and Shakespeare plays performed on the hill. There are chickens, and some friendly pups wandering around. As well as some potters and other artists who live on the property. It feels very bohemian. We had a tour and history of the pottery business as well and they offer classes and sell unique pieces. Oh! The wine was good too! My favorite was the fire station red. The cab franc was also good. I will definitely come babk on my next trip that way. read more

This is by far our favorite winery in Calaveras County. Every time we come into town, we stop by Brice Station, and every time we visit, we leave with more bottles than we intended. :) We only stopped by for a bottle of Merlot on this trip, but ended up staying to enjoy a tasting. What a delight! Not only were there 7 different varietals in the tasting (an astounding array), but we were offered french bread and pesto & olive oil for dipping, AND candied almonds. It was like a feast! My husband loved every single one of the wines and he truly almost bought one of each! The vineyard owner, Stuart Mast, walked by while we were there, and it was like a celebrity sighting. He actually stopped by to chat with us for awhile, and told us to ask for him the next time we came by so we could do a barrel tasting. He is one of the most genuinely generous people I have encountered in a long time. So, I cannot recommend this vineyard highly enough! If you like wine and friendly, knowledgable people, or if you have a dog with you whom you would like to be treated with respect, Brice Station Vineyards is for you! read more

A friend brought us here from Reno. His friends had brought him here about 15 years prior and he's been a member ever since. Guess what I did? Became a member! I thoroughly enjoyed EVERY wine, seriously. Our friend said we would and it didn't take too long to make us believers. My favorites? Cab Sauv 2017 High Country Red Chard 2017 Merlot 2017 An added bonus was Hopper - what a sweetheart! He is probably the best host we've ever had at a winery. Not only did we learn about the wines but he gave us the history of the winery and the folks that own it. It is a beautiful, tiny spot, much like a Hobbit hole with wine. I loved the pottery studio across the gravel road and ended up buying some pieces, as did my boyfriend. It was truly a great experience and I can't wait to go back! read more

I want to thank Brice Station Vineyards for their remarkable venue and truly wonderful hospitality. Tami, our event planner, helped us create a joyful and beautiful wedding for our daughter and her husband to be. The venue is gorgeous with a meadow for the ceremony surrounded by tall trees and a view of distant hills. The area for the guest tables, caterer and stage for the DJ is a short walk from the meadow. It,too, is outlined by tall trees with lots of room for people to eat, mingle and dance. Tami and her crew stage managed everything for us and all went smoothly. Don't miss a stop at Brice Station Winery while in or around Murphys. Head East on highway 4 and look for the old red pickup truck which announces the winery entrance. The charming, petite building and it's lovely gardens are akin to a fairy tale. An exuberant welcome and a complimentary tasting of 7 varietals and a port complete a perfect picture. The red grapes are estate grown at this family winery. The white hail from Lodi. Be sure to also see Quyle Kilns Pottery across from the tasting room, the oldest family owned business in Murphys. I make it a point to visit Brice Station Winery every time I venture up the hill to Murphys. Many people visit Murphys just to walk around downtown hitting several tasting rooms, but never venture to the many wineries nearby. Brice Station is on the other side of Murphys heading up the mountains which does make it less convenient for those visiting from the Valley, but this unique winery should be a stop for everyone. Brice has a rather eclectic setup with a rustic mountain ranch layout. The tasting room is an old bomb shelter, and there are several craft shops on the property. Once you dodge the geese and dogs, you can pass through a garden heading to the tasting room. The setup is upscale country ranch with eclectic antiques and a nice tasting bar made from a radiator. The wines are also eclectic with very good Port and some different varietals grown at a higher elevation, including a 2013 Merlot with a lot of smoke from the 2013 Rim Fire. We will see if this year's fire has any impact. The facility is also used for events, and I was a groomsman at a wedding here. They did a good job of coordinating the weekend, and the recent upgrades for a deck and party areas make the mountain overlook even more impressive. This is just a cool place to visit. You can park in the back which gives you a great view of the Calaveras mountains with a few Jack Russells guarding your car. Everyone is friendly and happy to see you made the journey, and those that head up the hill will be rewarded. read more

What an incredible place to visit and better yet enjoy some quality wine. Brice Station is just 5 miles up the road from downtown Murphys, and provides an escape from the crowds at the tasting rooms downtown. It also provides beautiful views of County. The tasting room is open year round on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and has wonderful staff ready to give you the history of the vineyard as well as tastings of their current menu. Usually you'll be treated to something along the lines of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Red Blend, Merlot, Chardonnay and a Port. Additionally, you'll be provided with fresh bread from a bakery downtown and a variety of olive oils. The tasting room is located at the top of the driveway in a retired bomb shelter with beautiful vines growing up the front of the structure and a vast garden and seating area just outside the door. The grapes are all grown and harvested on site (with the exception of Chardonnay) and you're able to see the rows and rows of vines down by the highway. During the warm, summer months, Brice Station provides quality entertainment with their weekend concert series as well as their month of Shakespeare. It's a great way to enjoy some wine and entertainment and most likely a breathtaking sunset with family and friends. As for the staff, it's primarily a family run operation and they know how to make you feel at home. Once you step out of your car at Brice Station you'll be amazed by the warmth and hospitality. Wow. I have a house across the street and had never been there until now. There's lots of good stuff at the top of the hill. We went to a concert benefiting the Murphys Old Timers Museum. Three great bands and a large grassy area to enjoy them in. While there are trees encircling the lawn, many people brought umbrellas to shade themselves on the lawn. I had no idea these folks had such a great summer concert series! They have the very best of local bands. If that weren't all, we had some of there wine. I really wasn't expecting a lot from a small winery, but must admit, they've got some really good wines. It the cherry on the sundae is the owners. They are very pleasant people who have opened their home to the rest of us! I am very appreciative, of people that do for others. I have been to Main St. in Murphy's many times for wine tasting but never made it a further up the road to visit Brice Station. I stopped by yesterday as my Yelp coupon was going to expire soon and I was in the area for Mother's Day. I sure wish I would have stopped by sooner! The grounds are beautiful!! Especially this time of year as so many flowers are in full bloom. We did a tasting before selecting a bottle of wine and it was so hard to make a decision as all of the wines were so yummy! I picked the Cab Sauvignon while my sister picked the Cab Franc. Both excellent wines! They also have a summer concert and theatre schedule. Came here for one of their concert nights. $15 for the concert ticket when you enter. The vineyard was selling their own wine to drink and they had a company called Waterman Farms selling pizza and salad. You bring your own lawn chairs and set up in front of the outdoor stage, on a big grassy hill with fairy lights up strewn above you. First of all, loved the wine and the atmosphere! It was very fun to split a bottle on the chairs while watching the band play for the night. The band was also really good, I have no idea what they were called though! As the night went on, several people got up and danced and that was fun to watch too. The food was terrible, however. We ordered 2 pizzas and were told the wait would be around 20 minutes, since they were cooking one at a time in the outdoor oven. Well it turned out to be more like an hour wait. When we finally got the pizza, our combination pizza didn't have all the ingredients since they had run out. Yet we had still paid the extra price for it, which they did not refund. The pizza was burned black on the edges and completely under cooked everywhere else. It was pretty much the worst pizza I've had. And we were paying the premium price of "farm-to-table" ingredients. Still pretty miffed about it. I'd definitely recommend coming to a concert night, just bring your own food! read more

Altitude Not Attitude...that's their mantra! Estate wines with owner/winemaker on-site. Just above Murphys. They have a yummy Chardonnay which is rare in the foothills. Don't miss the Cab Franc, which is usually in a red blend, but theirs stands alone. Flowers everywhere, a fountain, umbrella tables and Quayle kiln pottery shop just across the driveway. Look out for the chickens or the 2 Jack Russels, Milo and Sparkey, roaming the grounds. Not to miss is their Saturday evening Hill Top concerts all summer. First one Memorial Day weekend. Great musical talent! Bring a picnic or purchase food on site with wine for sale by the glass or bottle. The month of August is Shakespeare As You Like It, Thursday through Saturday. Have your special event here! A lovely place run by a very attentive family of potters and vintners. The wine is great and very reasonably priced; I particularly love the Viognier and the port. The on-site pottery studio features beautiful pieces of made from locally mined clay. A recent wedding I attended on the property made great use of antique farming equipment and wagons as part of the decor, to wedding-magazine quality effect (but with a very real world budget). A number of old, metal woodstoves surrounded the dance floor, and became very-welcome warm gathering places when fires were list at dusk. I hear they have a concert series here in summer, and I can't wait to check it out! read more

Tasted here once and didn't care for the wine. I tasted all 6 or 8 (can't remember how many) and couldn't find one that I liked for some reason. They all had an odd smoke aftertaste or something. This place is amazing! By far the favorite stop during our day of wine tasting in Murphy's. We enjoyed chatting with the owner and all of the employees. We also went over to the pottery shop and had a really wonderful time touring the store and chatting with the owner there. This is a family owned property and everyone is extremely friendly and gracious. We would love to return to see one of their concerts some time in the future. I was visiting Arnold, CA with family. We have a cabin by the lake and after a fun filled morning at the lake we wanted an afternoon of wine tasting. We tried a few wineries and loved, loved, loved this place. There was a wedding at the time and we saw the young couple taking pics which was cute and did not detract from our experience at all. That was due to the excellent service from our host. The 6 of us sat outside and she checked on us regularly, making sure that we didn't wait with empty glasses between pours. We ended up here because of the other Yelp reviews. I was worried it wouldn't live up the high expectations but it did and we came away with a few bottles. Lots going on here, and lots of people wandering around. It's been in the family for generations, and collected a lot of rusted farm parts to a 50 year old pottery studio that is a dream for artists to see. Handfuls of happy farm animals wander around, and beautiful gardens make it a happy place to be. Everyone is super friendly. They do everything organically and host WWOOF volunteers (like me). Each bottle produced is truly a family and friends event... But we tried to put the labels on straight ;) I love the Port, and the High Country Red blend. We loved this place. Great wine and a absolutely gorgeous setting for music. We had been to Murphys a few times over the years but had never heard of Brice Station until we heard that one of our favorite Bay Area bands, The Snarky Cats were playing there over a three day weekend. We were able to reserve a room for the holiday weekend, which surprised us, and made our way up to see the show. The wine was excellent. Very different than what we expected, in a good way. Even talked to the winemaker a bit. Very friendly people. The food at the concert was just so so. Really slow service and basically cold by time we got it. I'd advise bringing your own picnic dinner. The Snarky Cats were awesome as usual and seemed to be having fun. It was really fun seeing them playing in a smaller setting compared to the big shows they usually do around the Bay Area. We first saw them playing at a 49ers game and have seen them a number of times since. The singer said one of the band members owns a home up there or something like that, so they like playing in the area. We have been back a few times since that first concert, saw a couple of local bands, and found a number of other fun wineries in the area. The downtown area is great with a lot of tasting rooms, places to eat etc. I highly recommend checking our Murphys if you need a weekend escape from the City. read more
