The front door is kept locked, so be sure you go around to the north side of the building to enter. The main parts of the building within your sight lines is filled with home decor. At the holidays, there was Christmas stuff from top to bottom! Even upstairs they have a room with more items. Behind the stairs is the cooler area for fresh flowers and to the left of the counter (seen as you enter) is more space for the employees to put together arrangements. I decided to pass on fresh flowers and instead found a seasonal spray hanging on the wall with lots of festive ribbon and greenery. It looks nice on my front door. I know it hasn't been that long since I've been in to get some flowers, but when I went recently, I was shocked and saddened to see that most of the business space has been sold out / shared with a large hair salon in the same building. It's amazing how many hair salons there are in Greenwood and also on Madison Street alone. This floral shop used to have so many things going for it including various gifts and a huge selection of flowers in a massive walk in cooler. Their floral case has been reduced to one tiny cooler. There's hardly any extra gifts as well. It's a massive consolidation or scale down. It's quite sad to see them being diminished to that. I used to be able to go in there and pick up a quick bouquet with whatever flowers I wanted. When I went in there recently, they hardly had any flowers in their case. I tried to scrounge together something. If I want to get flowers from them now, I have to order it at least a week in advance. It just isn't convenient anymore. I really wish them well and I really hope they don't disappear altogether because that would be very tragic. What I also found odd was when I went in there, there was absolutely no activity in the salon.

Parking is either along the street or alongside the building. As I've noted, most of the other parking lots along here are privately owned and pretty open about the fact you shouldn't park there. SoBro Flower Co. is a sister establishment to 21 Petals in Lafayette. They are a full-service florist with flowers, wedding/funeral options, plants, chocolate (mostly DeBrand), and even some art. This particular shop benefits from having a pre-existing concrete ramp at the entryway (I believe the previous vendor - which I've completely forgotten - had it done). Prices are pretty consistent with full-service florists, and they do have delivery options. The atmosphere is very winning, and the employees are quite friendly and helpful. I found things for the most part accessible, though there is a decent amount of stuff here in the shop. I love love love the Wabash Center Rose, a special rose they have that benefits the artists and creators from Lafayette-based Wabash Center - a non-profit serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. I will note the Wabash Center Rose is an "add-on" item that can't be ordered for delivery independently. This spot has had a hard time finding a business that would really stick. I have high hopes for SoBro Flower Co. with its winning mix of pleasing atmosphere, quality products, fair pricing, and terrific customer service. I'll definitely be back.

This is the most wonderful shop, full of handmade and local kids clothes, toys, and goodies,…read moreincluding cute accessories for adults as well. The inside almost looks like a tree house, with a slanted wood roof and incredible displays set up everywhere. Lok means "happy" in Chinese and it's a happy place indeed. The shop is a culmination of goods from several local makers, including "Little Love by Lok" which is made in-house. The owner is one of the most creative people and makes bows, baby wraps, blankets, teepees, head wraps and much more for young kids. I don't even have kids yet, but almost buy something for a future kid every time I'm in the store. I recently bought a cute pair of earrings from a local maker here and really love them. The space also has a wonderfully-sized party room (about 30 people max) and a kid room (the entire place is super kid-friendly). You can rent it out for a reasonable price or can attend workshops here. The owner also has rows and rows of gorgeous fabrics in hers studio and you can have her custom-make an item for you too. Bonus: She's also a photographer and you can book her for any of your photo needs.

While I've long been familiar with McNamara Florist, I was wheeling around the Glendale area today…read moreand decided to give this location a visit given I knew they'd be all decked out for the holidays. McNamara Florist was started in Indy in 1954 and has eight retail locations in Central Indiana along with a greenhouse/nursery in the Fort Wayne area. Not so long ago, McNamara relocated their main headquarters back to Indy from Fishers. It's now located on the near-eastside of Indy in an area that is definitely getting a sense of renewal. While McNamara is local, it definitely has a national reputation. They offer a variety of flowers, plants, home decor, and delivery options. They were definitely decked out for the holidays with a festive array of decorations, plants, etc. This location is actually on East 62nd Street and it's toward the back of Glendale town Center in the same area as the Huntington Learning Center and Jet's Pizza. Parking is available with accessible options and appropriate curb cuts. I happened to be parked at Target and visited several businesses in this strip center with no difficulty as a wheelchair user. When I arrived, I was the only customer. That changed pretty quickly. Employees were responsive and friendly - a bit hovering but not overwhelming. If I have one beef here, and it's pretty common during the holidays, it's that accessibility definitely was a bit lacking in-store. While I'd imagine they don't get a ton of wheelchair users, I'd think anyone with mobility issues might struggle in here. They have some high-end glass Christmas trees that I was terrified I was going to tip over (I didn't). There were ultimately places I wanted to get to that I simply couldn't. However, I'd say I could get to about 75% of the story without too much difficulty. The store was definitely warm and inviting with a festive spirit and light holiday music in the background. Pricing was clearly marked on nearly every item and while this is what I'd consider to be a more premium florist, it's definitely got stuff in a variety of price ranges. I like that they offer plant and flower subscriptions and McNamara is for sure an Indiana success story when it comes to plants and flowers. I sometimes forget it's here, however, this visit was a solid reminder to consider McNamara the next time I need flowers.

Flowers, in all forms, should be a normal part of life. And cut flowers have this magical property of bringing just a sprinkle of nature into our homes. Recently, I needed to have flowers delivered. I have a favorite florist on the North side, but I thought the delivery address may be out of their zone or I would have to pay extra. So, to Yelp I went! And, once again, the Yelp community came through in a big way! Penny's was the best reviewed florist in the area I was searching. Honestly, I was a little nervous because their featured image is of 30 floor lamps and not flowers. But I realized they also sell home decor (& more!). And I couldn't really argue with the 4.8 rating (4.9 after this review??). I have never visited Penny's in person, but I may stop by sometime to check out the housewares. I did my shopping online like you do for most florists. The website was easy to navigate and included pictures of the flower arrangements. I was also pleasantly surprised by their prices. They offered several price ranges, but even the lower range still offered great selections. I chose one right in the middle. Checking out was a breeze, as well as inputting all of the delivery information. There wasn't a way to select a time for delivery that I saw. You can type in requests, but there is also a note that says time requests are not guaranteed. But I moved forward hoping my delivery would take place during the business day. On the day of delivery, I received a courtesy call at 8:30am that he flowers were on their way and would be delivered in about an hour! The arrangement was beautiful, smelled exquisite, and looked like the photo online. Well, done, Penny's. Well, done! While my favorite bouquet continues to be that of a fine, red wine, I truly appreciate the scent of fresh-cut flowers. Over the past few years, I have realized just how important smell is to me. Whether it's the aroma of dinner roasting in the oven, lighting a candle after cleaning the house, or an intoxicating perfume lingering in the air... smells are powerful.
