The lighting adds to the cozy ambiance. We rented their tables and chairs. The tables are a pretty dark wood so you don't have to cover them with a tablecloth. We also purchased a balloon arch. As a guest, I really did not enjoy my experience at this venue. The venue was nice solely because of my friend's decor, but other than that, this place is just a run down brick garage... it gets super hot here because there isn't any air conditioning or even a fan, which made me and other guests super uncomfortable. It's hard to enjoy an event drenched in sweat. When the event was over and while everyone was helping to clean up, I was taken back when the owner rushed in the venue and got into the face of our host in front of everyone. I felt so disturbed by this man and his behavior. It was very unprofessional and unpleasant. If you're in the hospitality business, know what providing guest service means. read more

Had my baby shower here at Brick + Laurel and I am very happy with how everything turned out. Great venue space for any occasion! Rustic and open space, you can really make it your own. You can tour the space and take pictures before booking, which is nice to see everything you are getting. They kept in constant contact with my step mom who booked the space for me, who had questions and all that. Even during the baby shower we couldn't figure out how to turn the ceiling fans on and the owner quickly responded to a text from us and saved the day. Would definitely consider this venue for future events! Tip, parking can be difficult but I had no problems, you have to take trash with you after, and no air conditioning. read more

I changed the date of my event and replied I would take the available date. 3 emails and 2 phone calls later have not heard back. The owner is very accommodating and responsive and took care of all our needs. Ruined my daughter's celebration! To Eileen A: There is no trolling of this business. This was our ACTUAL experience. Im glad that you've had great experiences, but my family did NOT!!! Everyone's experience can be different. You were not there for OUR celebration, so you CANNOT speak to it at all. So you have NO right to tell us how to feel! Sure, my interaction with Pat was fine in the beginning, but it was the end of our celebration that ruined what should have been a memorable celebration. You can't defend Pat's interaction with me and my family. If you're renting out space for people to host their celebrations, then you should know what hospitality is and act appropriately for all of your clients! We rented this venue because we thought it would be a nice space for our smaller gathering. Many of our guests were from out of town, some traveling from over 2 hours away by car and plane. We had our celebration and even ended up not opening gifts due to the time. Family and friends meet, catch up and before you realize it time gets away from you. At 3:45pm we started to gather our things and started cleaning up. Apparently, Pat tried to call me just a few minutes past 4pm. I did not have my phone on me the entire time as I was busy hosting. As we were almost done cleaning up, Pat comes to me yelling "why haven't you answered my call? That was so disrespectful! " I didn't even know that he was calling me. He did this in front of 5-6 of my family and friends. How embarrassing and UNPROFESSIONAL! He could have easily come to me and asked me to step outside to speak privately . Again, jumping to conclusions without giving me an opportunity to explain. Sure, Pat said to Gabby " I'm sorry you walked away from the venue feeling like this". But, there is NO apology in that sentiment and NO apology for how UNPROFESSIONAL he acted. If you truly cared about providing great customer service, you would take ownership of your actions and stop trying to defend yourself. This is not about you, but about MY family's experience and how YOU made me and my family feel. It comes down to staying past our time 19 min while cleaning up. Not 2 hours, not 1 hour or not even 30 min. Being in the hospitality industry you should want your clients to have a great experience and create happy memories! Was that too much to ask? To be clear, we only went over our time by 19 min. because we were cleaning up, NOT continuing our celebration. There is NO excuse for Pat's behavior towards ME! read more

Had an appointment to meet with Pat to look over the venue. We went in, saw the place, and loved it. It was perfect for our small wedding of family and a few friends. Patrick told us we could have the date we wanted, wrote us into his calendar, and said he would email us the contract. A week went by and he never sent the contract so I emailed him saying I hadn't received it. No response. Called him and he didn't answer. Texted him. Nothing. Was completely ghosted with no explanation. I thought something horrible must've happened for them to not respond like this. And then they posted photos of a recent event on their Instagram. So now I'm back to looking for a venue after thinking we had secured one. Really upset that they just never responded after we had a great first meeting. It feels very unprofessional. read more

Our bride and groom were celebrating their first anniversary and loved reliving their wedding and vows under the dreamy lights, white draping and warehouse vibes. There is decor and a lounge and farm tables area are included and taken away at your request. The hourly rate is simple with no hidden fees... which make it worth it...trust me. And working with Sarah, the venue owner, is just wonderful. She truly has a vision for events and has a lot of experience in the even and floral design space. The pros are endless here. Most warehouses are impossible to design and fill. The space is just right to celebrate with the ones closest to you! Cons: Parking is assigned, but I wouldn't call it a con. Brick + Laurel is a hidden gem in La Mesa. I attended a surprise party for a friend here last night. It's a cute warehouse perfect for small events (50 people or less). The space comes with lots of furniture and has a full sized bar built into it. There's so much you can do to the space. If you want a one stop shop for everything the venue offers different event packages if you don't have time to plan all the details (flowers, music, photo booth, etc). It did get a little chilly last night especially whenever the doors were opened so you might want to tell guests to bring a jacket. There are a few parking spots right in front otherwise you can easily find parking nearby. read more

It was a little difficult to make initial contact with someone, but once they did reply...they were very informative and stayed in great contact all the way through the end of my event. It's a lovely space that is the ultimate blank canvas, so you don't have to do much decorating. But, there are also so many opportunities to create different looks within the space to bring your event vision to life. Parking is a bit of a nightmare, but the owner does provide plenty of instructions and information regarding that and even sends you a PDF file that you can include with your invitations for your guests, if you'd like. Will definitely keep this location in mind for future festivities and encourage you to book the space, if the space limit and location is right for you. read more

Hosted a birthday party at Brick and Laurel. We brought in our own catering, floral, and beverages. There is a great hanging plant contraption which we used for a floral chandelier, a chalkboard, a couple of barrels, and a couch/seating area. The owners allowed us to do a few walk throughs to plan the lay out prior to the event. They had tables and chairs available for 40 but it easily accommodated 50. There was only one bathroom available but it was not an issue for our guests. There isn't much parking directly outside but there are plenty of spaces in the surrounding area. The space does not have AC and can get pretty warm but our event happen to be on a cool day in October so it was fine. I wouldn't recommend the space in the summer as I can imagine it getting very hot. Overall, the space was great! read more

We had a baby shower here and I think that this venue was really perfect. The room was very rustic and had a hipster vibe to it. The tapestry along with the rest of the decor made it seem intimate and very trendy. In addition, when it came to putting up our decorations for the shower, nothing clashed and instead it gave it a very homely feeling. The tables and chairs worked well too. There were 3 tables, a coffee table, two additional specialty tables and a bar area which were able to hold most of our stuff. We used one of the tables for gifts and the other for desserts. There is one bathroom here and it wasn't a problem for our party as there was rarely a line. Luckily there was enough space in front of the venue for the taco stand to setup. The only things to consider are parking and trash. We didn't have any problems with either, but they are considerations to think about when choosing this place for a venue. Parking can be an issue since the other tenants in the area may or may not tow. One neighbor was kind enough to let us use his parking spots since he was leaving for the day. There is another parking lot back towards the freeway and whatever spots are open in down the street. You do have to take the trash and there are no public dumpsters nearby. Luckily we were able to take our trash to the base. Great intimate venue though! read more

If you're looking for a rustic venue that can host 50 people or less, look no further. Communication was done mainly through email. We met Pat to check out the space within a week. The space is occupied by a florist and a coffee company (I think), so it's kinda messy during the week. However, the venue was spotless on the day of the event. 3 tables and 40 chairs can be rented for another $150. There's a side table with a chalk board for you to write on. We used this set up as a dessert table. There's no sink at the bar, but there's a huge sink outside of the restroom if needed. Overall, we had a great experience with Pat would definitely recommend Brick + Laurel to family and friends. read more
