A fun lil venue & La Mesa gem. Have been a few times & it's very much a good place to meet friends, catch up, or a date/date night. They have a cute little patio w live music usually, and bring in food vendors to purchase food from - usually taco trucks, sandwiches, etc. Inside is cozy & clean w ample space & tables, and a good lineup of local wines, slushie, and cider to choose from. Host is always super welcoming & helpful to give you good directions if you're unsure about which wine to choose. I had a glass of wine, and then tried their wine slushee - delicious. There is Indoor and outdoor seating areas; and heat lamps for the outside. Charming tasting room and patio. Wonderful and accommodating staff. We attended a private event, a birthday party, and it was REALLY fun. The wines were better than expected, I enjoyed the reds I tried quite a bit. They are doing a nice job with blended reds. I didn't taste it, but I heard the unoaked chardonnay was very good. The party had a private caterer, and the setup worked beautifully. Another night we went for a flight of wine and we enjoyed the food truck parked just outside. Space is nice & roomy which is always great. Has free board games and rotating food vendors/bands. Uses local San Diego wine makers which is always a huge plus. I will say - my friends band played here & right after leaving one band member didn't drop off their equipment back at home before grabbing a bite to eat & their car broken into & $2000 worth of equipment stolen. It was very 'professionally' done & done very quickly after leaving the venue so the people doing this have got a system down. I'm sure they have tons of pickings to choose from this place since they have rotating bands. Just be cautious of anything you leave in your car or anything you show/carry inside as people appear to be watching! read more

We threw a Bridal Shower here on a Sunday night and the whole experience was absolutely amazing! From the venue itself, to the welcoming staff, and the awesome food vendors you can choose from with a private event (we chose Racelette) it was an incredible night. We were looking for somewhere to hang more inland during May Gray. Searching through Yelp, I came across this spot, and we decided to check it out. Walking in, there was a large seating area with the bar. Since we wanted the sun, we decided to order and go outside. They had a variety of wines made on site. I opted for the flight of 3 for $18, which had two ounce pours. That was nice for getting more of a feel for each wine. They had an orange chardonnay, which was a limited selection. I don't always like chardonnays, but I found this one to be really interesting. I was bummed they didn't sell it in full size bottles, but understood they did not make a lot. I also got the syrah and Agrifolia, which I enjoyed as well. If you get a flight, you get $10 off a bottle, so I took a bottle of Syrah home. My husband got the zinfandel, which was good as well. They do sell hard ciders. My husband hoped for a beer, so maybe think about adding just a couple beers in bottles? On the other hand, I am totally happy with wine only. There was a food tent set up, which we ordered from. They also had a great jazz band. Between the sun, music, and patio, it was a relaxing day. We brought our dog also, so we appreciate their pet friendly environment. The staff was super nice as well. We are definitely glad we found this place and would return. Looooved this place! I went on a Friday evening to have a glass of wine with my parents and my husband and we had such a great time. There was live music, games, snacks to buy, good ambiance and delicious wine. It was pretty hot so we ordered the rosé to cool us down and then we ordered the merlot - we liked both! I like to find little places to study at and grab a glass or two of wine outside. The main things I'm looking for are: either outdoor seating that's shaded or icy cold AC, dark red wine selection, fairly quiet during the hours I'm there. (Afternoons or mid week. I'm not going on weekends because hopefully these spots are bustling which wouldn't be great for study time!). I had a hair appointment in La Mesa and found this spot on yelp. It's sort of tucked away on a little street. The inside was spacious but I opted for outside which was also nice and big and had plenty of shade. It faces the street and got lots of airflow/breeze which was needed since it's already pretty hot out. The staff was friendly and had great suggestions. You also get $10 off a bottle of wine if you get a flight. I enjoyed their dark red selection with the Malbec being my favorite, though that usually is. Their version is a bit more jammy and sweet than most Malbecs but was still robust and dry. It's probably a more approachable version of a Malbec if you typically find them too strong. This night they also had a pizza pop up which sets up in the back patio and I am full of regret for not trying them but I "had food at home" (ugh). They brought out a nifty pizza oven and everything! I likely wouldn't drive all the way out to La Mesa just to stop in here but since my hair studio is local I can see myself here again for sure. (Especially if it's pizza night!) read more

Came here on a whim because of a jewelry pop up they were having and we were not disappointed! This spot has a cozy in door seating area with some couches and lots of tables to sit at as well as a whole outdoor area with fire pits as well! There was live music the day that we went which definitely drew a crowd and was great ambiance with our wine. They have wine slushies there which were super enticing, my friend tried one and it was delicious. I went with the wine flight to try out some of there different wines that they had. A shout out to La Mesa Wine Works for a great event Saturday night with the Fire Brothers band! It was a standing room only crowd and everyone had fun time. The food pop up was Underdog. One man handled all the food orders! The vegan burgers and hot dogs were very tasty. He did an awesome job. I've now been to La Mesa Wine Works four times. The last two times were for birthdays. Last summer we had a small gathering for a friend, and just a few days ago we had a small outing for another friend. It is a really great place for celebrations. Both times, we brought decorations, snacks and birthday cake. They don't take reservations, but if you arrive before the music, there is always plenty of space. This place has music on the patio on weekends. I've seen several local bands/signers there. It's fun to hang out and talk with friends, or dance to the bands. I like the variety of wine, as there are two wineries represented there. There is always something for sweeter and for drier palates. Sundays is $6 wine slushy day. The staff is always accommodating. They bring water and glasses. They help us move tables, umbrellas, and put out heat lamps. La Mesa Wine Works is the perfect place to unwind after work, or to spend time with friends on weekends. read more

This off the radar place was a refreshing find one Saturday afternoon. Despite being a 90 degree day, it was very comfortable inside even with the windows and doors open. I was able to peek behind the scene where they were in the midst of crushing a recent grape harvest. As an amateur winemaker myself, it was great to talk shop with the staff who was friendly and knowledgeable (not just a pourer). Wines are diverse from traditional varietals to fusions and slushies. Food truck was getting set up when I was there but didn't try the food since this was a layover for another stop afterwards. Parking is scarce. read more

Came to this place on a Sunday afternoon while visiting San Diego. This is in the industrial area. It has a very cute vibe and an outside area with a singer playing guitar. We ordered our flights at the bar for $18 each. The bartender was very nice and helpful in explaining the different wine types. For whatever reason, the place was completely empty which was a buzzkill. But they do have board games to play and little cheese/cracker snacks to purchase. I've come here a couple of times and my first few visits were great. I came with an out of town guest who really knows their wine. We all decided to get flights and 1 wine tasted like it had been open for days. We mentioned this to the lady behind the counter as we were eager to really get to know these wines and out of courtesy let her know so she didn't serve it to other guests. We were very polite, and were expecting an apology, or some further conversation or suggestions about the wine. The lady looked personally offended then returned with another small tasting of wine that was equally as offensive. Convinced she just just gave us another old swig of wine. On the way out she begrudgingly asked how it was. We said the wines were good but that one wine wasn't really our favorite. She grimaced, pursed her lips and stayed silent. We left vowing never to return. It's unfortunate because we love the atmosphere, the live music and food trucks but this lady totally ruined the experience. One would think if you had a passion for wine you would go out of your way to recommend something or to apologize and perhaps taste it yourself so you don't sell rancid wine to anyone else but I guess this woman just wanted to feel offended by offering constructive criticism on a musty, putrid wine. read more

We have been coming here a while, and lately within the last few months the owners decided to stop allowing personal water bottles. Some people do not drink, I understand it is a winery but we only come for trivia. And they supply water but some people might be allergic to cleaning supplies that are used to clean. On top of that trivia nights usually supply small businesses for food, which is fantastic if you want to wait an hour to get a taco. Some vendors are slightly better than others. We used to be able to bring in our own food a while ago too, but that has changed. The really only good thing about this place is Ashley. She is so personal able and is always there. I rented the patio at La Mesa Wine Works for my baby shower on 11/10/19. The venue is beautiful and the patio area is amazing! There is plenty of greenery and you have wonderful tables with lots of seating for larger parties. I had 45 guests and it was great to have a space that fit everyone plus the caterers. The staff at LMWW was the absolute best! They worked with me to create my vision and stay within the budget that I had. My guests absolutely loved the wine selections and everyone can't wait to come back on their own. If you are looking for an ideal venue for around 50 guest check out LMWW and their patio. We recently held a graduation party at La Mesa Wine Works. The process of planning the event seamlessly due to the staff at Wine Works. Ashley gave us a tour of the venue and gave us wonderful suggestions on how to make sure the event ran smoothly. We rented both the patio area and Gavin's area for the event. Gavin's areas was a great location to take photos during the event. We ordered the 2018 Chardonnay and the Zinfandel for the event. Cindy answered any questions that we had promptly over email. On the day of the event, Ashley helped us set up the patio area and she answered any last-minute questions that we had. During the event, the staff was attentive to the needs of the guests. Multiple guests commented on how welcoming the staff was throughout the party. I cannot say enough good things about La Mesa Wine Works as a venue. It is a wonderful gem in La Mesa that hosts events for a reasonable price. read more

Wineworks is such a fun place. I came here with a few friends and my fiancee. We had tastings from both wineries they poured and loved them. The service was also great as well. One of my friends had dropped her wine and the gentleman quickly cleaned it up for her and got her a new glass. I would highly recommend this place to anyone that likes wine and a good time. Don't go here if you need a handicap parking spot. On Friday and Saturday a food truck illegally takes up the only wheelchair spot. I took my 86 yr old mother there and had to unload her, her wheelchair and her oxygen tank in the street and then move my car. When I spoke to the food truck people I was told that the owner of the winery told him to park there and when I spoke to the owner she was very dismissive towards me. She offered to help me unload my mom but didn't seem to think that allowing the food truck to illegally park in the only handicap spot was a big deal. Also their wine wasn't great. read more
