Last month I was on the hunt for pieces for my MG costume. And I always check out the smaller Earhart Bridge House thrift store. I heard this one was much larger so I wanted to check it out. And yeah, it's huge! There was a LOT of furniture and some of it was new. Plus a whole section of exercise equipment for those with good intentions. The prices seemed OK to me and there was definitely some new stuff. The housewares were plentiful but not super organized. And there were so many clothes that I was a smidge overwhelmed. Bridge House is a thrift store that supports those with substance abuse within the community. I'm not sure what percentage of the sales go towards this, but it is a very nice deed. This thrift store is a nice size, it isn't massive. They have some beautiful shoes right by the entrance, they are displayed like they're in a department store. They have sorted clothes, for men, women and children. I was the most impressed by the home items like; rugs, mirrors, and glassware. Sadly I couldn't bring any of these home with me, but I really liked one of the mirrors. They have a whole section of $1.00 items, there was nothing for me here, but everything seemed to be in very good shape. They also have a substantial amount of records, CDs, books and art. This thrift store is much easier to navigate then the huge ones. You never know what you may find, and think of the good cause you're supporting with your purchase. read more

I LOVE this thrift store! It is always neat and clean. Great selection of various items. I never leave empty handed. The employees and friendly and helpful. One of the employees saw that I had my hands full so she went to the front of the store and got me a basket. That was nice of her. I left with a shopping basket full and only paid $20 for everything. This thrift store is organized, prices and sale prices clearly marked. I've bought furniture from them, as well as household items and I've donated clothes and other items. There is a bigger store in Jefferson Parish, but this place has a good selection. Lamps! I have bought several lamps here, which came with bulbs and in working condition. I would say that their top stuff would be lamps, discounted mattresses, women's shoes and bags, frames, and incomplete sets of china. A good number of wedding presents seem to cycle through this store. And this store raises money for a community-based treatment center for recovering alcoholics. read more

For a thrift shop, this one is clean and well organized. The staff was courteous, but maybe too courteous. There was a young girl (maybe 6 years old) riding a skateboard through the store, knocking things over, and at one point laid down in front of my cart and wouldn't move causing me to back up and go down a different aisle. The two adults with the girl kept obnoxiously yelling at the girl but didn't stop her or supervise her more closely. I would have spent more time shopping if the staff would have asked the people to take the child out of the store. I did find a few great items, but didn't hang around long enough to look too closely. They did have one public unisex restroom but the lock on the door was broken. read more

A special thank you to Nick for his sharp eyes and honestly. I lost an antique bracelet while dropping off. He kept it safe knowing someone would return for it. I'm not sure why this 'thrift' store feels the need to be so over-priced. All of the goods are donated, they shouldn't have to charge SO much that they have to have "50% Off Sale" signs every where. Why not just price the goods reasonably in the first place? I love the objective of Bridge House and I will continue to donate, but I won't go out of my way to shop here. At the tender age of 71 (!!) I have rediscovered the joy of sketching and artwork. I heartily dig the feel of pens and inks in my hands. Bringing us to the subject of picture frames. Great luck at the Earhart Bridge House location, so in my imagination, I figured, "ok, bigger space, probably got some nice used frames.." Ric and I have been to this Airline/Metairie locale and purchased, more than once. But, my bad: I'd only been looking at frames in the bins on the right hand side of the store. A man who works there and already knows us, happily put me wise, saying, "Look over there, we've got plenty of frames on the shelves." Plenty? That's putting it mildly. And, every single frame was priced at 50% off! Shazam!! This treasure palace of thrift is totally worth your time. Don't miss it if you are an artist, looking for family clothing, a hobbyist, or just in need of furniture. I actually saw some vintage styled 1950's themed jackets, at the "Last Chance $1.00" rack. They even have a lovely in-house lady: she sells prah....lines up front! Five stars, no hesitation. SIX if I could do it!! read more

This place is alright... I prefer Red White and Blue on Jefferson Hwy or Lapalco (Marrero) because they have a bigger selection, but Bridge House does put up a good fight! It's not like the size always matters, especially when it comes to thrift stores. You just have to be in the right place at the right time to find that perfect item. Bridge House has a unique selection of just about everything. Clothing, shoes, household items, and even art! There are furniture items too, and like most thrift stores, it is "hit and miss" in terms of the quality of these items. The store itself is conveniently located in a strip mall on Airline Drive, in Metairie - but keep your eyes open. It is bunched in with a lot of other little stores/restaurants. if you blink you will miss it. read more

Very expensive thrift shop. I think they're forgetting the stuff has been used and abused. I've gotten stuff cheaper at retail on clearance and from outlet malls. It isn't like Goodwill where all jeans are $4 and all shorts are $3. All the jeans and slacks I saw were $14-$18. Even the non clothing items were very expensive. I wouldn't even bother looking at the electronics section. Expect to pay $100 for speakers that may or may not work and are old/cheap. read more

As far as thrift stores go, Bridge House is clean and VERY well organized. The store offers a wide variety of household items, gently used furniture, and nice clothing. The clothing seems to be a little bit more high-end than other places, which is consistent with the slightly higher prices they charge. They DO have fitting rooms (not all thrift stores do) and they carry a nice selection of plus-size clothes. If you're looking for decent clothes and don't want to pay full retail, I would check this place out. Just keep in mind that you're NOT going to get a pair of designer jeans for $6.00 - you might have to pay $10.00 instead. read more

I was in dire need of new jeans. When jeans have holes that aren't there for the style, then they need to go. Doing some digging I found Bridge house. I dunno, I like this place. I've found lots of great vintage glassware, LPs, and shoes here. I'm rarely disappointed. I never find any good aloha wear here, but, to be fair, I have serious trouble finding Aloha wear at ANY thrift. I think the pricing is a little high on things sometimes, but remember, you pay HALF of what the price tag reads (unless you're in on one of their 75% off days, which happen on a regular basis, when you pay... well, 25%, for us math wizards). read more

I like this store. It's really large with a huge selection of things to buy. I bought excellent books 3 for $1.00 the other day. There is a huge selection of glass items and I thought the price was fair as I looked through everything. They have furniture and fancy shoes, jewelry too. This store has some of everything. Needed to kill a couple of hours while waiting for grandson's flight to come in, we stumbled onto this place. Well orgnized, a bit on the pricey side, even with the numerous half off items, but still some goodies to be found. Best priced items in the place are books, and a pretty good selection, too. I am so disappointed with the Management. the prices are a joke. I shopped there today and found 6 plates. They were stacked individually and the top plate had a $10.95 tag on it. I assumed this was the price for all. When I got to the counter the man said it was half off so I assumed the plates would be half of $10.95. RIGHT??? WRONG The manager said it was $5 for each plate. I have never paid these kinds of prices EVER at Bridge House. I did not buy the plates. I did try to offer $2 per plate and She refused. WOW Bridge House I am ashamed of you. A clean and well-organized thrift store that also offer new mattresses and at times sofas. We were not aware of their twice-yearly 50% all furniture, so all the good-looking sofas were already claimed by the time we got there. read more

I love this place. They have a huge selection of vinyl records, CDs, cassettes, movies, and BOOKS. The books are almost all in pristine condition and cheap ($0.50 for a paperback, $1 for a hardback). They're often very recent titles, too, that are still selling for $8-20 at Target. read more

Bridge House is my absolute favorite charity. It does great work and the staff truly is dedicated and that shows in a success rate that is almost unbelievable. As for the store: What fun! Dealers get here early for the bargains - and you can find incredible ones. Unfortunately, I usually miss them because I always arrive too late. The airline store sometimes has wonderful antiques. Yes, antiques. That's rare, but it happens. You never know what you'll find here - sometimes nothing, sometimes great things - and that's the fun. As for the pricing being high, say what? I just got an adorable child's wooden easel in great condition for $5. I have a serious book problem - I can never buy enough - and this is the absolute best place to get used books. The selection is even better than that of the Latter Library's book sale, and that's saying something. Hardbacks are $1 and paperbacks are 50 cents. read more

The Metairie Bridge house is a bust- they will have the same items time and time again when I visit. This is because they overprice and price gauge worse than any thrift store I have been into in the last five years.
