Most pain ever. Very scary. Both crowns need extra work. I am forever scared of dentists.

A while back, I had some dental work done. Unfortunately, there was a mistake with my insurance…read moreand it was billed and paid to the wrong insurance. I contacted the dental office to get this corrected, and they said they couldn't do anything to help me without being asked by the insurance company to return the funds to rebill it. Mind you, the insurance has sent a dozen letters and called them and spoken to them while I was ALSO on the phone, but then they tell me that they can't return the money because they've never talked to them. Oh, and they billed me for flouride that they never put on my teeth. After asking them to remove the charge, they finally did over a month later and rather than returning it to my card, they gave me a statement credit. So unless I go back, I can't get my money back. I will never. ever. go to this location again. I will go out of my way to go somewhere else. I recommend you go somewhere else too. They will charge you for stuff they never did and then "look into it" when you call to complain. Never again.

Who doesn't love going to the dentist!!! Do I have any cavities, will I need a root canal? What are…read moreall of those metal hooks and picks doing here lined up on the table next to my chair? Have I transported back in time somehow, those devices look like something from the Middle Ages! They're not actually going to put those things in my mouth are they? Thankfully, I wasn't the one scheduled for a cleaning/checkup this time. My two kids were overdue, and you can bet your bottom dollar that they weren't happy about it. They were both convinced they had cavities, and were asking me a million questions as we made the drive over to the office. I tried my best to put them at ease, but I could feel their anguish intensify as we pulled into the parking lot. I had never been to this office before (their mother had always taken them), so naturally my curiosity led me to see how my fellow Yelpers had rated the place. There weren't any recent reviews, and as I had predicted, the previous ones were not kind. I notice that doctors in general rarely have positive reviews since no one trusts them, and people love to lash out after being given bad news about their health. Since I was a newbie to this place, I always go by my own personal experience. From the start, everyone working here was super friendly. The receptionist was attentive and we only had to wait about 10 minutes before both kids were called back. This itself was already a miracle to me, as I usually wait over an hour to be seen, so far so good. About 20 minutes went by and my daughters hygienist came back to tell me that she didn't have any cavities and everything looked great! She suggested a sealant for her molars that helps prevent cavities, and let me know it was fully covered by my insurance. I agreed to it, and off she went for about 10 minutes more to finish everything. My son's hygienist came out while my daughter was finishing, and the identical results and advice were given. We were literally in and out of the office in less than 90 minutes, truly amazing. I'm not sure if we just got lucky, or if this is the norm for this place, but I can't say enough about what an incredible experience we had. I will definitely be recommending this office to everyone I know, five stars all the way!

I really wish I would have seen this other person's one-star review before my husband and I used…read moreGreat Expressions on Rt. 60 for our dental work last fall. I've never had so many screw ups regarding providing the correct and covered treatments, as well as a number of costly miscommunications between their dentist office and our insurance. I am a stickler for asking in advance if our insurance would cover everything they wanted to do. They presumably called my insurance as I waited. They provided treatment (and impersonal treatment at that) on me that was, I was told at the time of service, covered by my insurance. Come to find out, the dentist office personnel didn't listen to the insurance's specific instructions that it had to be done 6-weeks after the initial treatment. Because of that, we got screwed hundreds of dollars, which we begrudgingly paid. (They love to wave around the paper they coerced you to sign before treatment, saying, "Haha, you said you'd pay, now pay up." See, they can lie through their crummily-maintained teeth and say it's covered so that you'll agree to get the treatment and then be stuck with the bill in the end. Corrupt! Fraud!) Now, they are harassing us again because of my husband's treatment (same as mine, but this time we *waited* the right amount of time for the second treatment). The problem now is that they did TOO many treatments to be covered by insurance! Great Expressions is now claiming that insurance said they'd only pay for three treatments of it, but not all of it that they administered. (Well, wouldn't that have been nice to know PRIOR to the treatments?) Isn't that the job of the billing department, to make sure treatments are covered before you get a bunch of work done that you will eventually have to pay for out of pocket? We even waited the 6-weeks this time before his treatment! But leave it to this office staffed with incompetents. They still expect someone to pay, even if they are the ones who are in the wrong. They will send bill after bill and make call after call to try to get you to pay. Please, I beg of you-- spare yourself the headache and avoid this corrupt dentist office at ALL COSTS. Or it will really cost you in the end.

February 9, 2026: Deserves 0 Stars!! Specifically the rude witch at the front desk office manager…read moreAngel Absolutely unacceptable experience at Great Expressions Dental Center on Bloomingdale. I had two appointments for two children scheduled at 8:30 and 8:40 AM, and I will not be returning. The woman at the front desk was shockingly rude and dismissive. I politely asked if the TV volume could be turned down because it was extremely loud, and she flatly said "no." No explanation, no courtesy, no professionalism. Then she blatantly lies and said it couldn't be turned down and that it was set at one volume. Which I knew was a lie. Then after I unplugged it then she became irate and I said I asked you to please turn it down. She refused to and I unplugged it again. This time she turned it down. I said so you could have done that when I initially asked. This proves she was just being nasty and mean for no apparent reason. I was not rude at first. But because she was being mean and hateful towards me yes I then gave her the same treatment. No one deserves to be treated in that manner from your staff and especially someone in her position. You're a manager and this is how you treat customers/patients? Someone needs to learn office management skills and customer service etiquette. Angel apparently lacks both. The TV was so loud that I could not hear the staff member who called me back to discuss whether there were any issues with my child. This is a small office, which made the situation even more unreasonable. Another woman in the lobby had to move from underneath the TV because it was so loud, confirming this was clearly a problem. I also observed another woman in the lobby with her son who was visibly upset, apparently experiencing the same lack of courtesy and professionalism. This behavior did not appear to be an isolated incident. Front-desk staff are the face of a medical practice, and this individual was the epitome of rude, nasty, and disrespectful. There was no effort to accommodate patients, de-escalate, or show basic human decency. Completely unprofessional and deeply disappointing. Not sure if I'll ever return and I'll advise anyone else to not come here if they have a choice. Never in my life had someone be so rude nasty and dismissive when you simply asked them to turn tv down. UNACCEPTABLE!!! Never returning as long as she works here. After reading other reviews this is not an isolated incident with her demeanor. Horrible, horrible, horrible!!! If this is who Great Expression has on the front line representing them nothing great about the experience at all. Even the young ladies in the back are more personable and friendly. Ask your other employee Quielss I had a hard time hearing her when she called me back to discuss if I had any concerns. She even apologized for her managers behavior and rudeness and tv blasting like we're in a sports bar or club!!! Then again she may be afraid to speak up and say exactly what happened for fear of Angel firing her since she's the manager. No worries I won't be returning until she's gone. Worst experience ever at any dental office we've ever been to. Be warned if Angel is working of her nasty attitude and demeanor! Just read the other comments about her. After posting my review and scrolling I saw other reviewers who experienced the same issue with her. Tried calling corporate while in your lobby but it ask for me to input an extension. This way you could have heard it for yourself. And not just take Angels word on the incident. Yes I unplugged the tv since she refused to turn it down. That's why she came out into the lobby and I took her picture. After unplugging it TWICE only then did she turn it down. That's all she had to do in the first place instead of being rude and lying saying it can't be turned down and it only has one setting. She could have done this initially but for some reason she said NO!!! Flat out. Rude, Nasty and Hateful. No excuses and UNACCEPTABLE!!!!

Kept going back every few days and she was arrogant and took no responsibility for her poor work. She is suppose to be gone according to Dr Karthik/part owner. They all just lie. Now im lossing a tooth that was just a simple crown "attempt". She left me with a 20 yrs old assistant who knew nothing of what she was doing that not only dropped numb gel into my throat and on my tongue while applying to the whole left side of my mouth top and bottom for a back lower molar, so I couldn't breathe or swallow but she then proceeded to not know which direction to cement in temporary and put it in wrong. Had to have 20 minutes of drilling to make it so my tooth wouldn't smash into top molar. My nerves endings were lit from so much abuse. The whole left side of my face was swollen and numb for weeks. Only took 4 minutes to drill original tooth ( broke it)and I had a hole in my tongue and cut the roof of my mouth. She injected two syringes of lidocaine which was total overkill to up the price. While smashing into two top teeth with drill! Also billed me for core build up which was never preformed/ insurance fraud! Then Dr Karthik sent me to Brandon office where nothing was done after going in atleast 9 times. Total incompetence thoughtout entire company. Dr Karthik reviews in Tampa are 3.4 rating and she in charge? Macy Mcelwany along with Karthik are being reported to dental board and bbb. Once again RUN!!! There are so many other reputable dental offices to chose from. Followed up with grievance to my insurance and after evaluation they refused to pay them for anything they did. Also they still owe me 166.00 from work done last year that I was over billed for. Still waiting.

I knew it was bad when I had to wait for over an hour after my first scheduled appt to get in with the xray tech. Then I got a whole 5 minutes with the dentist. All I really wanted was a cleaning. My teeth are in great shape, I've had all the orthodontia a kid could handle and have taken care of my teeth all my life. I had to wait another month for them to have an opening for a cleaning. I had a feeling they were gonna do an up charge as the dental assistant came in before I left to talk about how I need a deep cleaning to get back on track... ok whatever, I just want a cleaning. Fast forward to day of my appt. I leave work early and arrive to find this note. I try to call the following week.. Nothing and no way to get in touch with anyone in the entire company. Two weeks... nothing. Finally I call and get someone. Hello, why hasn't anyone called to reschedule my appt? No answer giving (didn't check to see if they had my correct contact info) but they are willing to schedule me in and I have to wait a few more weeks. I go today and tell them look I just want my regular cleaning that is covered fully by my insurance. They start to tell me they can't give me a regular cleaning... only the one with an estimate of $128 over what my insurance will pay. They couldn't just give me a regular cleaning and not do what the doctor "prescribed." Then they try to tell me that my appt was cancelled and they had called me. Surprise! They didn't have my number in their system correctly and had inverted two #s. Then they were trying to tell me since I didn't hit confirm on an email they sent me I'm out of luck. Excuse me? Unlike this office, I actually show up on time to my appts. They realize that this is problematic as I explain that this is the 2nd time I've had to leave work early to have you people mess up. They say ok... we'll have the hygenist look at you to discuss what's needed. I have to wait another 20 minutes and then we go back. I explain I just want a regular cleaning. He's looking at my teeth. It's obvious a regular cleaning would be fine. He tries to say there's a little bit of tartar here and there but says he can't overrule the dentist's "treatment plan" and that he's operating under his license. And guess what... the dentist isn't in on Weds or Fridays when they schedule the cleanings... so if there is a question or disagreement with your treatment plan... their hands are tied. So no cleaning is better for your oral health than a regular prophylaxis cleaning at this establishment. That makes perfect sense.

A Decade Later: A Failed Root Canal & Hard Lessons Learned…read more Nearly ten years after getting my first root canal at this location, I discovered that the procedure had failed--leading to an infection and eventual bone loss. Thankfully, my general dentist caught the issue before it worsened. I sought treatment elsewhere, where the new provider used advanced laser technology to address the infection. On my recent check-up, I was relieved to find that my bone had fully regenerated. This experience was both traumatic and eye-opening. My body was signaling distress (swollen thyroids), but I didn't connect the dots until it was nearly too late. If you're undergoing a root canal, I cannot stress enough the importance of doing your due diligence. Not all root canals are performed equally, and not all providers use the latest techniques or technology. While Great Expressions completed the procedure, it ultimately wasn't thorough enough, and I paid the price with my health. Any invasive procedure--especially a root canal--should be treated with a zero-trust mindset. Be proactive, ask questions, and ensure your provider is experienced and up-to-date with modern advancements like laser treatments. If I could go back, I would have chosen an advanced endodontic specialist from the start. I'm sharing my story as a reminder: listen to your body, demand the best care, and never assume that a procedure is truly "done" without proper follow-ups.
