All the others are ALWAYS taken. They confiscated my ball. Going the wrong way in the pool. The lifeguard didn't realize that going against the current is a form of exercise. Walking the track instead of running Stopping next to the track Sitting on the exercise equipment. It had a chair that I chose to sit on for two minutes. No one was around. Today, two fellow members kicked me out because I had flip-flops on. They were right about it being against the rules, but it just reminded me of the pervasive culture of entitlement and snobbery that exists at this location. For context, I have memory issues, which is why I had flip-flops on at the gym.

I still really didn't check it out last Saturday. I only walked in the front door - to the right - and the event was in the banquet rooms to the right. If I had to guess about two rooms were used to accompany about 100 people. Overall, I was please with the center. I did see young boys enjoying the facility. I did notice this center is only open from 12p-4p on Saturdays. Unlike most recreation centers in the area, this one looks to be the the largest or in close competition with others in the city. Today I went on a rainy day so make sure to bring rain boots as parts of the main paved trail gets flooded. I ended up parking near the basketball courts. There were many people at the park but there was still lots of available parking around. I saw people playing basketball, soccer, kites, football, etc. I was surprised they had a horse shoe court that looked like they could have a tournament as there were so many lanes. I walked through the park at first, walked to the dog park, then the pond, then circled back to the forest playground, which was huge! If my kids were little they would have loved this place! They had a stage that could have a small outdoor concert. After checking out the kids' playground, I went for a full walk around the park and realized there were 9-11 memorials, military gold star family memorials, and other patriotic displays along with huge flag in the middle of the park. There were areas to have picnics, exercise areas, and lots of open space for pets and kids and any outdoor activities. There were two bathroom areas at opposite sides of the park. One near the kids playground and the other near the skate park. I did about 1.5 loops around the park before leaving. I didn't like that there were people smoking weed in their cars and the smell was pretty strong. But overall the park is nice and perfect for family outings and a day out in the sunshine.

The meters cost about $2/ hour and the lots vary in price depending on what is going on and the season. It is right out front of the dolphin hotel which could make it a popular rec spot for tourist. The court can be used for basketball, street hockey, tennis, hopscotch and shuffleboard. It is BYOB, bring your own balls/equipment. There is no equipment there and no place to borrow or rent it either. The court is in terrible shape and is in desperate need of repair. I will say that the basketball court rims are lower than the standard, which is cool for me because I can dunk the ball.....almost. This is a recreational option, if you are limited and can't get to any better options. I do not like location of the court. It is between to somewhat busy roads and I can see a ball easily sailing into the road. I do like the concept of the court though and thinks that it is a good idea.

However, after going around the back when visiting the Great Neck Library I made a discovery... the front of the park. The entrance to Lynnhaven Park is off Old Donation Parkway, then a turn on Bayne Dr. It is a little tricky. The park is across the street from the fire station and library. There is parking at this location. By far the biggest reason my review jumps up to three stars is the availability of joint public/school tennis courts. Eight courts that can be lite at night, they are super nice. Nearby Lynnhaven Middle School also uses them and I imagine has priority when the need. There is league play at this location and a schedule is posted. Other than that this is open for anyone to use. Also there is a ball field that appears to be solely public and has an awesome infield. Outfield could use work as it is ridden with crab grass and patchy. It is also a lite field for night time play. Lynnhaven MS has there own ball field beside this one to utilize. A newer playground and swings sets on a bed of mulch was a welcome find too. There are four small shelters around it with a picnic table. There is no field for recreation in this area. A building behind the tennis courts houses the restrooms. However, they are out of order and locked up which I have a problem with. The water fountain is also out of order. This needs to be rectified and put back online for the park. At this point a port a pot is being used. It is located right outside the tennis court entrance. I have never seen one VB park that utilizes a port a potty as its sole means for visitors to utilize. The crowning jewel of this park are the tennis courts, they are that nice. But without restrooms and a very aging basketball court detached from the rest of the park I cannot justify moving it up further. Check this park out, it's right under your nose off of First Court.

Very low key park - at least for the purposes of my visit. I primarily stopped by to go for a quick…read morerun. I think the main trail in the woods is 1.5ish mile loop with a flat terrain. The park also has a decent amount of parking although there were not too many people in the park during my visit. Also, the park/trails were pretty maintained with plenty of markers to keep you going in the right direction. While the park is nice, I probably would not go too far out of my way (30+ minutes by car) to visit unless I want to take advantage of the kayaking/paddle boating opportunities.
