I've heard that the Brigg's branch YMCA is much nicer than the downtown Oly one. While that may be true, I will never join. First of all, there are SO MANY CHILDREN EVERYWHERE after 5pm. They outnumber the adults and run around being annoying and loud. I know the Y is supposed to be family oriented, but this is precisely why it's all wrong for me. I don't want to work out surrounded by screaming children. They have two pools, but only dedicate two lanes for lap swimmers after 5pm. This is not enough. The rest of the pool is reserved for children's swim classes and other activities. The lanes get crowded with too many swimmers, while the rest of the pool is monopolized by children. The water aerobics are a joke. I recently sprained my ankle and thought these classes would be a good way to get a workout without stressing my joints. Wrong. The class was filled with obese geriatrics. One even had an oxygen tank with tubes running up her nose. The pace was so slow I would have burned more calories sitting on my ass. After 30 minutes of this nonsense I left the class and just swam laps (in the aforementioned crowded lanes, of course). The showers also suck. You have to push a button and the water stays on for about 60 seconds. So if you want a real shower, you have to spend a lot of time and effort pushing that goddamn button. Two stars solely for the fact that their recumbent bicycles have individual TV screens hooked up to cable. That was pretty neat.

I have a 18-yr-old, severely Autistic son. He loves to swim. So when I was looking for a gym to…read morejoin with him, Lacey LA Fitness seemed like a good option. But what made me realize we were in the RIGHT place was the response to our needs! ALL the staff have been helpful and kind the entire 3 years we've been members. They helped me come up with appropriate ways to workout successfully and include my son. All their efforts have been documented and shared so that our needs are addressed respectfully AS WELL as the needs of other clients! Recently my son and I were enjoying a typical day in the pool when were were yelled at by another client. She was upset about the way we were using the Handicap restroom. I understood her concerns and tried to calmly discuss them with her. However, she was instantly elevated in her attitude and began screaming at my son and I. I am grateful that in his quiet world, he didn't even notice. In that chaotic moment, his symptoms were a blessing. However, I felt sad and frustrated as I watched my son enjoying himself. A few moments later, another client who I have become friendly with, came out to the pool to let me know that the confrontational woman continued to talk about my family and try to insight others in the locker room to her plight. My friend informed me that this woman was "waiting" for us to come back through the locker room so she could give me a "piece of her mind". My friend made me aware that she had let the front desk know what was going on. 2 minutes later, Gwen and Danny showed up at the pool! They asked how we were and shared their concern. They were kind, calm and transparent while being totally professional and understanding of all points of view represented. They asked if we felt comfortable and offered to help. Because of their care and concern, I was able to have my son walk through the men's restroom with another client with no stress. I was able to allow my son the right to enjoy the pool, with no stress to him and leave the gym feeling safe, protected and respected! There's NO better feeling! Thank you, everyone!

They have a bunch of machines that nobody use that take up floor space while everyone fight over the 2 squat racks, 3 benches and few sets of cables. If you try to use the "personal training" area then the staff kick you out, even if they are not using it. We were told once by a trainer that we could use the area but then other staff are rude and unprofessional and kick you out. The managers will only defend their employees behavior and won't actually do anything about it. You're forced to wait around for the few machines / equipment that are worth anything. They don't use your annual fee for new equipment. Over 2 years of going there the only new equipment we saw were a few new rope handles for the cables. If you actually want to workout, don't go to LA Fitness. If you want to pay for a membership and not go, don't get a membership at LA Fitness, it's an arm and a leg to do so. They also make it very difficult to cancel your membership.

Well.. the time has come for me to write this review for OTF West Olympia. In the previous years,…read moreI've written two lengthy, detailed reviews for OTF Downtown Bellevue, so for reviews on workout programs and membership info, please check out my other reviews or other reviews here. : ) This review is for the staff at OTF West Olympia, and what makes this location the best one yet in the Puget Sound. I have been to several OTFs locations in Puget Sound, and some in California and Texas. This location has a great balance between the front desk staff and the coaches, they work so well together. They're truly "OTF FamOly (otf family Olympia)." The entire culture here is extremely inviting and encouraging as how OTF should be (though I've not felt so much at other locations). Front desk staff are very knowledgeable and friendly and you can also see them working out in the studios sometimes. Coach Kylee, Jamie, Q, Megan, Dilllon are a solid team of coaches here at OTF West Olympia they all have different coaching techniques and background so I find it fun to try all of their workouts. To be honest, at other studios, I used to have favorite coaches... and some I did not enjoy as much. Here, that has never been a problem. Oh, and they all have great taste in workout music which is huuuuge! Another very important point I should mention is that OTF West Olympia's Facebook group and Instagram pages are managed extremely well. Other OTFs, not so much- you see very outdated social media pages and no postings from coaches. Lastly, they have done a fantastic job with their communication on Studio hours and program updates during pandemic. They consistently review and update studio times to fit our "WFH schedules" and managed to try 30-min, and 45-minute workouts for those who have busy WFH lives. This studio is only less than 2 years old and have already accomplished so much. I am so glad to have this studio so close to me.

My larger concern is with a specific white front‑desk employee whose behavior was unprofessional and, based on his own comments, appeared biased. When my wife (Asian) and I (Hispanic) checked in, he was immediately rude and confrontational. He questioned whether we were together even after I confirmed it multiple times, then insisted on procedures that were completely different from what other employees at this same location required just two days earlier. When I asked why the process had suddenly changed, he responded with sarcasm and said he "wasn't there at the time," then added that the African American employee who checked us in previously "wasn't doing his job." Instead of simply explaining the policy, he escalated the situation, threatened to refuse us service, and gave the impression he might involve the police over something trivial. After our workout, we asked when the manager would be available. We were told to come back the next morning at 10 AM. When I did, I was informed the manager doesn't work weekends. At that point, it was hard not to feel misled. The one positive interaction was with an employee named Alex, who listened respectfully and left a note for the manager. Unfortunately, the overall experience was enough for us to cancel our membership and look for a better‑run gym.
