We learned that Jacob Hamblin was an amazing man who accomplished a great deal of good in his service as mission president to the American Indian tribes. We were told that he rode 30,000 miles on horseback during his 30 years of service among the Indians. The historically restored home has many interesting displays of actual family belongings or period pieces.

I love to look at the beams of wood in the ceiling and imagine someone decades ago that would have been looking at those same beams of wood. The LDS church owns and staffs the museum and dictates the script that is shared with visitors. Their narrative claims that Jacob Hamblin was called on an "'Indian Mission' and had great relationships with the Native American people." Strange, then, that the Mormon Pioneers still felt the need to set up homes in forts with 12 foot walls surrounding them. I think there's likely more to the story and includes the fact that the Mormon pioneers took over land from indigenous tribes by force. However, this review is about the home/museum and that in itself is interesting. Just take the story with a grain of salt and perhaps do further research do get the full perspective-not just one side.

You…read moremay go to the wrong side of the mountain if you're not careful, it's best to use GPS coordinates. 36.982827, -113.503066 This is free to visit and an easy activity for families, singles, or groups. The hike is easy and short, less than a 1/2 mile. There is a sort of gate that you have to squish through. The best Petroglyphs are the right on the "trail". It's a short trip, I would pair this with glitter mountain and warner valley dinosaur tracks. This trail also has a toilet and picnic area on site. If it has rained recently you may not want to visit. Cars can get stuck in the mud! All wheel drive not required when it's dry. Bring water, snacks, sunscreen, and garbage bag. Keep an eye on kids so they aren't messing with the Petroglyphs, or can be tempting for them to scratch at things with the rocks laying around. Always clean up after yourself!

This is a privately owned mine so you will need to pay for what you take but a handful is only $2 and that's all you'll really want to take. Be sure to bring a bag/container to put your treasures in. This is a 10/10 for families and those who love rock hunting!

Bring a good car to do a little off-roading because the road can get a little rough on the way there. When you get there, there is no hiking required. You can see the crystals sparking right off the road! There is info on the place and info on the type of crystal you can find there in the front. It was cool to learn about the area. There is also a Venmo code and a prices list. You pay by the handful or the bucket. The kids loved walking around for the biggest crystal and looking at the giant crystal in the middle! Some of the crystals can be sharp so be careful! We cut ourselves a few times.

Been driving by this place for several years and finally took time to check it out. Located in…read morecenter of of old part of Town. This place is filled with some very interesting things! There's a cake from early 1900's. Yes it's famous around the world as oldest wedding cake. There's also a couple of slabs of Bacon from the same time period. It was just let "Hanging" by a woman who passed away and it was forgotten a decade or so later. There's a lot of personal artifacts from original pioneers and settlers. One room I really enjoyed was the Indian Artifacts room. They have a very large clay pot 20" diameter that is over 10,000 years old. Was found buried and full of corn. They reportedly planted some and grew corn. Takes about 30-45 minutes to go thru. Very nice and informed staff. Great outside displays and plenty of parking. Check it out when in Hurricane Utah

Although the weather didn't cooperate and a lot of the things closed up early, I still got to enjoy the Center. There is an art gallery inside with some neat pieces from different artists. Outside, there are shops selling handmade or locally sourced products and a plaza where events can be held. I'm sure when the weather is nice and there are a lot of people here, the energy would be great. I look forward to coming back and giving it another go.

The Desert Rose Garden labyrinth was probably my favorite part. However, you have to be dedicated to wanting to actually walking the hole maze thing otherwise it won't be as enjoyable. Think of this as Grand Canyon lite, or what the Grand Canyon must have looked like in its infancy…read more This is a vast expanse of rolling meadows and buttes so it is not a day hike. Go there in a jeep from Mesquite NV and have fun on the dirt roads. Bring food and water because it will be a several hour drive - an hour each way to and from the park and however long you want to stay there. We have not yet camped there, I am sure it would be a fantastic experience though and will post updates on our next trip there. I posted a couple photos, beware joy riders with shotguns (they only shoot signs, not people, I hope!)

Plenty of space to pull over/off the road, even if you were pulling a trailer, etc. They have a spot you can toss your old plates so they can add them someday. Some questions: How do they get up there?! Is there a Maryland plate? (The good folks at the MDOT are kooky about recovering their old plates!)

Mood - Weird Stuff Part 2…read more As I was in the area def wanted to check out more things to arouse my curiosity. This pole came on my radar. The rain started to pour down and it became a bit of an adventure. Upon arriving you cant miss it. This pole is clearly seen from the intersection. It is on private grounds. The pole stands 81 feet tall and is adorned with license plates from all 50 states. Kimball Gardner is the proud owner of this roadside attraction as it sits in his yard. He welcomes you to drop off any plates you would like to have added to his continual work in progress. This work of art started in a smaller state of mind and after gaining much attention the pole had to be increased in size to allow for all of the plates that have been donated to his cause. Would def recommend as it is something to see. Even if just once. Pricing is free. However be mindful as it sits on private property. Location is E Washington Dam Rd - St George UT, ample parking on the street.
