We went to Little Bradley Falls, located in Saluda, North Carolina. Due to a wildfire that happened a couple of years back some of the trials are restricted for hikers. However, you are still able to see Little Bradley Falls and explore the surrounding area. The trail is pet and kid friendly, with designated paths, so you do not have to worry about getting lost. The parking lot is more of "pull of the side of the road" style parking. It was tight, but I was able to park my SUV. Although the majority of Little Bradley Falls trail was closed, the rest of the trail was well kept, and you could visibly see the park staff was working on reopening the damaged trail. The waterfall was beautiful, there is an observation area where you can see the majestic waterfall, perfect for photos. Although the trail was well cleared, one dangerous part is you have to climb over rocks in the river to get to the other side of the trail. It wasn't that difficult, but should be considered when planning your hike to Little Bradley Falls. If you are in the Saldua North Carolina area, or want to take an easy hike with the family, I would definitely recommend taking a look into Little Bradley Falls. I hope to return in the future to complete the other trailhead that is adjacent from Little Bradley Falls.

The park…read moreis one of the cooler State parks in North Carolina that I have had the pleasure of experiencing. I am a mountain type of person and I am really glad that public access has been provided to these cliffs and this Area. Rumbling Bald park host several great hiking trails through massive boulder fields and spectacular hardwood forests. The main draw for the park has to be for Bouldering and Rock Climbing. While hiking or walking through the woods in the winter/spring it is certain you'll see lots of people climbing up and down rocks. Thanks to the park staff for creating a viable parking lot for the park too. When you come here make sure to try and park as closely together as you can. It can get packed on the weekends. Also, don't double park or block anyone, or else you'll get a ticket. I really hope they access can be opened to the other cliff areas around the lake, like Ghost Town and the Darkside, which are currently closed.. 1 suggestion is to avoid this place in the summer, as it turns into a oven with the south-facing rocks, and there is poison ivy all over the place. It is said that this bridge is hunted and it is not safe to be around the area after hours. It is said you can hear the worker that was buried inside the bridge because they couldn't get him out. Spooky I know although I don't know how true that really is, one thing I do know is I would not want to be in that area after hours. The sounds of water streaming under the bride is very relaxing. I love the arch that is built inside the bridge.

Park across the street, a sturdy staircase gets you down to the bridge. WOW.... Such history !!! It's a 200+ yr old bridge with a Gothic design. The gentleman who helped us was very kind and gave us a map of the trail and grounds. There are picnic tables and benches around. The trail is very easy to walk. There are steps along the way. I have a bad knee, but nothing was very strenuous. The trail is lined with a creek that makes it's way to the falls. There are two different spots to have different views and take photos. I found being here very peaceful. The weather was a bit chilly and very windy otherwise I would've loved to sit there longer. Really important bit of info..... there are no restrooms available so use the facilities somewhere if you need to before arriving. I would recommend visiting! It's been on my list for a while.

If you're looking at AllTrails, we did Little Bearwallow via Wildcat Rock Trail. The trail is pretty steep and on the more strenuous side. It's 4.7 miles round trip if you follow the same path. If you only care about views, I would recommend going to the Wildcat Rock Overlook and turning around after that. It would be about 3 miles round trip. There are no views from the Little Bearwallow Summit. The Wildcat Rock Trail also continues to Bearwallow Mountain, but we didn't do that portion. I'd like to come back for it at some point.

We were visiting Bat Cave, North Carolina. We had planned to hike Chimney Rock. As our luck would…read morehave it, the two days that we were in town, Chimney Rock was closed for maintenance. While we were driving from Asheville on our way back to Bat Cave later that day I spotted a new hiking trail head. Basically it is tucked right off the winding country highway. There is a sign, and some gravel parking. What I noticed while driving by were the cars parked there. So be on the lookout. We planned to hike it the next morning. We decided to get an early start. When we arrived before 8am, there were two cars parked in the gravel near the trail head. You start by crossing the road, you head down before (trust me) you go up the mountain. You can choose to hike just 1.1 miles to Little Bearwallow Falls. Or you can continue up to Wildcat Rock which is listed as basically 1.6 miles one way which sounds easy. But if you ask me it is straight up. The day we went it felt like we were hiking in the rain forest. We were sweating so much that sweat was dripping from our finger tips as we hiked up. I loved every minute of it. We were secluded and we were working hard. It felt so good. Once we reached Little Bearwallow Falls, we just knew that we needed to continue to the top. We needed to see something a little more spectacular. Once we reached the top to Wildcat Rock it was gorgeous. We stepped out of the foliage and we could see the valley below and the mountains in the distance. It was beautiful. We waited and we were lucky enough to see a bird soaring high above the mountain tops. It was the perfect hike for us. Strenuous yet providing the feeling of peace and accomplishment. We highly suggest checking out Wildcat Rock especially if Chimney Rock is too busy, or if money is a factor. There is no cost to enter at this trailhead unlike if you go to Chimney Rock. Also, take water.

This is beautiful roadside overlook that provides you easy access to the waters of the Rocky Broad,…read morethere are a few parking spaces that runs perpendicular to the road. There are signs posted designating the space as well as a trash barrel - the split rail fence offers you a great view but you'll definitely want to get closer to the water's edge, this requires you to dip under the top railing and maneuver down a rocky bank that has an elevation change of no more than ten feet (the mid-railing is missing in this one spot only that's next to the trash dispenser) I didn't see any signage that would prevent you from accessing the lower level however it's definitely not an improved trail so proceed with caution the terrain is uneven and if wet could be very slippery. Once you transverse the hazards it's all giant boulders and sand, the rocks provide an obstacle course of adventure and some element of danger so good footwear is a must flip flops and bare-feet may add to the risk. The water is beautiful and well worth the effort. This place is often referred to as a beach, it's not like any I've experienced but I liked it. I was definitely interested in finding out something about the namesake and the following information is some of what I've found after doing a short search: Paul Matthews was born Dec 25, 1866 and died January 17, 1954. He was the Episcopal Bishop of New Jersey from 1915 to 1937. He married his wife Elsie Proctor (from the family of Proctor & Gamble) - it seems Paul had respiratory issues and the clean mountain air provided him some relief so he purchased some property and the rest is history. There no doubt Paul and Elsie Matthews had a positive financial impact on the area and this overlook was one way to acknowledge their contribution. It's worth a few minutes of your time and is a great spot to take a break or enjoy a cool drink and a snack in the shade...

The Preserve offers moderate inclines in mostly gravel trail with some steeper areas after the first 1.5 miles. Lovely birds, restored land (following a kudzu cleanup), running water, and a waterfall (I didnt go far enough to see that). Limited parking and no restrooms. I'll definitely go back as long as I can get there early.

The top of this 315-foot high 'gneiss monolith' is accessible to visitors via either a winding series of stairs or a convenient elevator, depending on your stamina level. But regardless of how you ascend, the spectacular view from the summit is well worth the time and effort. Hurricane Helene caused significant damage to the park and to the river valley below, which still looked like a scar across the landscape when we visited 15 months later. Still, many of the hikes, including the Four Seasons trail, from the lower parking lot to the base of Chimney Rock, have been reopened and are well worth exploring if you have the time. One highly recommended adventure is the 1.5-mile (round-trip) Hickory Nut Trail, which leads to the base of one of the tallest waterfalls east of the Mississippi. Movie buffs will recognize the falls from the 1992 film 'Last of the Mohicans,' a portion of which was filmed here. Adult admission to the park is $17 for the day, and passes can be booked online in advance. There are gift shops, snacks and facilities available at multiple locations, including both the upper and lower lots and near the summit of Chimney Rock. Yes, it's an expensive outing, so try to take advantage of the many trails and sights this expansive park has to offer. We made a fairly quick stop on our recent trip, but plan on coming back next summer to hike to the base of Hickory Nut Falls and explore the Skyline Trail along the top of the ridgeline. After you leave the park, be sure to spend some time visiting the shops and restaurants in the Town of Chimney Rock, just across the Broad River. Devastated by Helene, this resilient community is still recovering, and tourist dollars are an essential lifeline. No visit to the North Carolina mountains is complete with a stop at Chimney Rock State Park. It's an unforgettable experience in one of America's most scenic regions, and a special place that you'll want to come back to again and again.
