Loved it there and will be going back again as soon as I can. There were so many bad reviews I was a bit nervous going. They are getting ready to do some work on the campsites to make them larger. Bathhouse is like a 5 minute walk from the back of the campsite but they are clean and free hot showers. Loved that we had electricity at the site as we were able to charge our phones and so many people had lights on their tents. read more

I had a great stay at the Hitching Post Campground. Upon arrival, even though it was a little later and getting dark, Glen was very welcoming and friendly. There was an accidental extra charge when I made my reservation and he was very willing to reverse it with no issue. The site I stayed at was spacious and backed up to a little creek and woods. There aren't really any trees between sites, so not super private, but since they are a good size, you have some separation from your neighbors. The bathrooms were clean with a fun western them (saloon doors, etc.). Hot showers worked great. There are some full-time/long-term residents at the entry that do look a bit scrappy, but the tent sites at the back of the campground were nice. read more

It honesty took a deep breath to continue in and set up camp but my husband reminded me you can't beat $30 for electric and water at your site and the bathrooms were well kept. It is camping after all. But for kids the playground is dangerous and it does feel like a junk yard with random stuff laying around. Overall, we had a nice stay, felt safe, and enjoyed the community of the pond but wouldn't come back with kids. read more

It's a beautiful spot close to Lake Lure and other places. We've been going for three years and love it. It's a quiet spot where the campers respect each other. And Laura & Glen are the best. The bathrooms are always clean and well stocked. I can't ask for more than that! read more

Before choosing this campground I read all the reviews I could; based on them I had confidence it would be great. I was overly shocked, dismayed, and disappointed from the moment I arrived. I thought, "There is no way this is the same campground described by others". My wife was scared and I just wanted to just turn around and leave. However, it was dusk and I didn't have any options. This place is unwelcoming in appearance, plain unkept, dirty, and lots of trash around. From the time we pulled into the campground to the moment we left, my wife didn't step one foot outside of our RV. I'd say that if you're good with staying in a junkyard, you'll be fine at this sketchy place. Otherwise, book with confidence elsewhere...and don't look back. read more

This was our first time at The Hitching Post Campground. Let me start with the reservation. I love that it has a mom and pop feel to it. Meaning that you pay when you arrive and don't have to go through the credit card blah blah blah. I sent numerous emails and made numerous calls to make sure this place had what we needed and they were always quick with an email return or to answer the message. I also love that down the road about a mile is an Ingles grocery store. This makes it possible to not have to pack every bit of food you need for the time you are there. Upon arrival we were greeted by Laura, who was very nice and informative. She showed us to our spot which was campsite 22. It had just rained for three days and everything was pretty wet. She showed us where to go but was also flexible if it was too wet. We paid her and bought some wood but was found out quickly that with the rain the wood was tough to get going, even with lighter fluid. We set up camp and enjoyed a great night. I was a little let down by the quality of the play area, not that my kids minded, but it is also being repaired during this time. The bathhouse and showers were clean, a little rundown, but taken care of. Hot water for showers and a flushing toilet make everything better. We hiked a trail in the back to a waterfall and it was really nice. Not sure why there was a homemade pipe and well pump going down the falls but it was a good walk either way. We fished the pond but caught nothing but we aren't great fisherman to begin but my son and I like wetting a few worms. The only real negatives are the the front of the campground that has permanent residents that looks a little dated and old and the amount of animal noise surrounding the camp from other farmers. It is before light that we heard chickens and cows going pretty wild. Overall, it was a good trip and I can see why people would want to come again. read more

If you're looking for luxury, find somewhere else and refrain from the nasty review. If you're looking for an amazing time in the mountains, THIS IS YOUR PLACE! It's not the Hilton. There is no signal, its spotty in that town ANYWAYS! This is the perfect place to go and relax, have quiet, just get away from the hustle and bustle. Yes they have some permanent campers, they are all in one area and you'll never hear a peep from them. What you WILL hear is Ms. Laura making the rounds everyday with popsicles for the kids. What you WILL see is Ms. Laura and Mr. Glenn and the rest of the staff going way out of their way to accommodate you and make sure you have the best experience. Yes, we were skeptical too when we first pulled in four years ago, that skepticism lasted all of 5 minutes. Ever since then, we have been back 4 times and are planning more trips for just this year alone. They are updating as they go and ALWAYS improving. Everything they do is 100% for their guests! You will absolutely LOVE staying here, as long as you aren't unrealistically expecting golden thrones and the signal of NASA. It's camping, not the Ritz.... they have whatever you need to make it an enjoyable experienced then some! I would give 100 stars if I could. read more

While the camp hostess was nice, the amenities and grounds were lacking. WiFi, which seems standard at most places we've stayed, won't be found here. If you rely upon WiFi or cell signal for work, or if it's just a convince you seek, this is not the place for you. read more

Super friendly staff. Great for military family's. We stayed two nights and enjoyed our stay very much. Lots and of kids the second night but we slept well. Close to the lake and convenient to grocery store. We will stay here again. read more

The lady who took my reservation was super sweet. When we arrived for our weekend stay both men in the office when checking in were super nice. Our first night was rainy but super quiet and peaceful. The bath house was clean and stocked well. The second day the peacefulness ended as the campground began to fill up however it was manageable until we heard a woman right next to our site start yelling at her kids that she saw a copper head and they needed to get away. Now let me explain we live on a 50-acre farm we are NOT city folk, so my husband worried about our own safety went to check it out. He along with all my children were standing at the top of the dam right next to our site. He had stepped over the little rope across the dam to see into the bushes next to our site when the gentleman came speeding up on a golf cart and told him to get back on the other side of the rope. My husband complied and said ok but he was checking for the snake. The owner replied with "if you leave it alone it will leave you alone". My husband said ok then the owner jumped off the cart and jumped at my husband and yelled: "look you don't want to mess with me". Like he wanted to fight him. Then he jumped back on the golf cart and rode of mumbling under his breath. My teenagers and husband were stunned and my little boy started crying because he scared him. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE with such volatile staff. read more

This campground was nice and secluded with grassy camping areas. The restrooms were always clean, and we were allowed to put our tent in a spot right next to our parents' RV (most campgrounds keep tent campers away from RV campers). I'm only giving this three stars because the bath house was a bit unconventional in that it didn't have doors only curtains for the entrance, so it made us feel a bit insecure on the ladies side. Also, the bath house was not air conditioned or ventilated so as soon as you got out of the shower you started sweating again. BUT, the restroom was ALWAYS clean, and they supplied hand soap and paper towels. Very peaceful place that I would definitely recommend. Great place for tent campers! read more
