They also spent the time to teach me about the different components of my system, and fixed my problem. I found Brightstar through a friend who used them a couple years ago. I'm so glad I did! Jon came and did a site visit and gave us an estimate. I really appreciated his honest, straightforward, no-BS approach. He worked with our town and ENE to put together a proposal that was a really great match for our needs, finances, available incentives, etc. He answered all of our questions and there weren't any real hiccups. Jon actually found a way to get the system installed a bit earlier than originally planned, and worked with us to find a solution when our financing wasn't ready as fast as he was! I'm an engineer, but I'm not a solar expert. After a bit of reading and a few proposals, I have a sense for when the truth takes a back seat to the sales pitch. I never felt that way with Brightstar. I really got the feeling Jon was on my team, not just slinging panels. For example, we were curious about battery storage, but Jon steered us clear (for the moment!) because the price and performance just aren't there yet. Coming from a technical background I can tell you Jon's biggest asset is his ability to assess your property & needs to come up with a design that makes sense. We wholeheartedly endorse Brightstar Solar who installed a 6.4 kWp system on our Spencer, MA home. Brightstar Solar is owned by Jon and Mona Reese who have been in the business for many years. We were recommended to them by a friend and are very happy with are decision to go with Brightstar. Initially Jon came out and patiently answered all our questions regarding incentives, time frame, advantages of different manufacturers. There was no feeling of being pressured into doing anything. He explained everything in a factual manner. He also calculated how well solar would work for us based on our usage, angle of our roof, as well as any obstructions in the area that could block the sun. Fortunately we were in an excellent position regarding all those items. They quickly designed a system and gave us a quote. We went to work setting up the financial end of things. There were a number of incentives offered by the feds and the state which they explained to us. We had some questions for them which they answered quickly. Once the financing thru the Mass Solar Loan program was worked out they came out and started the installation. The installation took a couple days and they worked well with the local folks regarding permitting and with National Grid to get our electric meter swapped out. Jon came to the house and quoted the system with the correct size of components for the space we have here within the first week and his price was what Solar-Review.org had for our sized system, thousands less than Revolusun. Weeks after signing with Brightstar they installed the 9.9KW system and we were ready to start making power, but it took longer to get the building inspector to the house to complete the inspection process to be allowed to make power than the time to install the system. Watching the sunny days of May and June tick by without being able to generate solar power that was sitting on the roof was a painful delay by the town. Mona and Jon have been helpful and responsive to the rediculous problems with the State in finishing the enrollment process of SMART. We now have a surplus of 1500 KWh that NGrid has yet to figure how to credit back to our account?! I found Jon and Mona on Yelp after the first installer (Revolusun) kept bumping up their total for their tricky worded contract, so we canceled with Revolusun and lost the First Tronch SMART rate for starting early and we will get $0.02/KWh less for the life of the SMART program over 10 years (10 years x 10,000KWh/year x $0.02 = $2000 lost due to Revolusun delay). read more

We wanted to do solar also, and as we all know there is a lot of competition in this space. After working with a few solicitors that visit your door that can be somewhat forceful, it was a refresher when a neighbor recommended Brightstar. We decided to go with Brightstar in the end, a family owned company that does business at the personal level and we could not be more happy. It is a huge expense, so you want to make sure (and not feel pressured into). Jon, the owner (!), came to visit showing graphs, explaining the technicalities (that I am very much into) and Mona who runs the back office very diligently. What I particularly appreciated the sense of reality, no over promising, but defining what the gain vs what cost can be achieved. We could make the right decision, based on expert opinion provided by Brightstar and we proceeded with them. Again we could not be more pleased! The communication, delivery and also very important, installation, is as amazing as the first experience when I met them. This is not some sales gig to get you in and then forgetting about you. In fact, after the "check is cashed" Brightstar still makes you feel taken care of. As I do carry high standards, since I work in technology too, I don't give out great reviews that easily, but these folks deserve it. The pre-sales phase, the no hassle quotes, very high quality installation (I have seen some installations that are just ugly with piping all over the roof), the follow up of after sales are very much amazing. I needed their support after the installation but we were treated as if we were a new customer, still. We could not be more positive and HIGHLY recommend if you are considering solar to consider these people if you are in the north east region. There are a number of very concrete reasons why Brightstar is a great company, but the trust and knowledge that Mona and Jon bring to the table is what truly sets the company apart, and when you're buying a $20,000 system ($10,000 out of your own pocket after tax credits), you want a trustworthy, knowledgeable company. - Mona was able to answer questions regarding tax breaks and financing that no other solar company could (I tried!). She walked me through and helped me with every piece of paperwork along the way, as well as answering my many questions regarding potential tax breaks, financing programs, and much more! - Jon crafts a solar system to fit your needs using products from a wide range of manufacturers perfectly tailored for the system - as opposed to rolling out a cookie cutter system regardless of your system size or budget.
