It's difficult for me to get my boyfriend to step into an actual store, or buy something vintage ("If its used, should it be cheaper?"), so its best that I come here alone and bring back what he doesn't want. I always end up asking a bunch of questions when I'm here- usually about sizing. When the owner is in the shop, he is warm and super friendly and helpful. There is another employee who always seems annoyed that I have the nerve to ask about an item; I really can't take that type of attitude. Customer service, man! I'm hesitant to dock Sixteen Tons a star because of this one guy's attitude. The owner has true vision and really caters to his clientele. He has helpful tips (more ties coming in next week!), good suggestions (how about a cool vintage belt for the guy who has everything?) and asks the right questions to really try to understand who you're buying for. However, they run good sales several times a year that take $50-100 off those numbers, and the product is a significant step up from average. In addition, there is a limited selection of menswear - jackets, shirts, belts, accessories, leather goods. Some of these are offered in partnership with other well known labels such as Schott and William Wilson. My experience with the store was excellent. I had ordered a pair of boots online, before I realized there was now a retail location in town. They arrived, and appeared to be a previous return that had been accidentally re-shipped - they had obvious flaws. While looking up the return process online, I found the shop on President St. So, I took my boots there for their advice. Anup, the manager of the store, provided some of the best customer service I've had in recent memory. He cheerfully handled the exchange, the return shipping, and placed the replacement order while I browsed the rest of the store. He even took the time to verify my measurements and suggested a slight size adjustment, which worked out perfectly. It was also obvious that he was very enthusiastic about his business and product. Communication was abysmal--they never answered calls, never followed up. After confirming with them that they could do the suit, they later said they couldn't.
