The shop's got a good selection of both new and old, the buying for vintage clothes is done well, and prices are very reasonable. Hampden doesn't really have any other mens clothing stores (except thrift shops) so its a great addition to the neighborhood. Think of it like the sister...er..brother store to Double Dutch. Sixteen Tons also carries other man-gifts like wallets, cologne, belts, ties, hats, etc. The clothing can be quite pricey, depending on the item, but I did recently notice a sale bin! It's difficult for me to get my boyfriend to step into an actual store, or buy something vintage ("If its used, should it be cheaper?"), so its best that I come here alone and bring back what he doesn't want. I always end up asking a bunch of questions when I'm here- usually about sizing. When the owner is in the shop, he is warm and super friendly and helpful. There is another employee who always seems annoyed that I have the nerve to ask about an item; I really can't take that type of attitude. Customer service, man! I'm hesitant to dock Sixteen Tons a star because of this one guy's attitude. The owner has true vision and really caters to his clientele. He has helpful tips (more ties coming in next week!), good suggestions (how about a cool vintage belt for the guy who has everything?) and asks the right questions to really try to understand who you're buying for. He should pass these skills on to his employees!

Also has fresh (new) house and personal accessories. However, new clothing comes in/rotates quite often. I've been here twice and picked up long-sleeved pearl-button jean Wrangler and pineapple shirts; a Hawaiian short-sleeve Pierre Cardin shirt from the 60s-70s; and and a tan 80s sweater collar puffer vest (as the employee said, "It's back to the future"). In addition, they have a rotating variety of deck sizes ranging from 7.75 to 8.25 for the prebuilt completes. They offered a lot of name brand options for all kinds of parts but also offered quality shop board options for a cheaper price. The service was excellent as the staff member present was very helpful and answered any questions we had. He was also very knowledgeable of the surrounding skate community as he knew about the other skate shops in the area and provided us with many skate park locations. Lastly, it seems like Vu Skateboard Shop is pretty involved in the community as they have hosted competition for the many college skateboard clubs in the area, promote events happening in the area, and more.

I'm not a skateboarder at all, never have been, but one thing I love about board shops is their selection of shoes. Cool colors, brands I enjoy, in styles I just don't see other places. Vu's shoe selection did not disappoint. A pair of blue New Balance high tops immediately caught my eye. The man working the counter asked if there was a pair of shoes he could grab for me to try on. I described them and provided a size. He disappeared in back and then came back with a box. He laced one of the shoes up for me while the kids and I checked out Vu's selection of hoodies, socks, boards, t-shirts and knit caps. Vu's Baltimore centric t-shirts and socks were pretty cool. My daughter loved their board designs, especially Hello Kitty, and my son was all over their knit caps. In the end we walked out with the shoes, a pair of socks and two knit caps (one for each kid). Good quality lasts. We have a number of boutiques we visit from Georgia to DC. It's funny, just before we left for this current trip, we were packing and doing some quick chores when we realized so many of the unique finds we wear and love were purchased at Double Dutch. We have always felt welcome and we look forward to visitng again... hopefully we get another visit in before the Winter Holidays-- they always have fun and interesting gift items... we know we will always find some little treasure or two here. She swiped my card on square, gave no paper receipt, and said it would be emailed. When I got home and looked at my emails there was a charge of $2650.00 on my credit card!!!!! She won't return it, sent me a slew of nasty disgusting messages, and has had her friends harass me online. She needs to pay me back immediately and let me return them. What she did is deplorable. Brightside Boutique is a lot larger on the inside than it looks to be from the outside. This store has clothing, trinkets, kitchenware, stationery, and more! Every corner has its own vibe/theme. You could spend a while roaming around and checking everything out. The staff members are appropriately masked. I didn't stay for too long when I popped in because I felt uncomfortable with how busy it was getting.
