    IV equipment and messy room.
    Debbie S.

I must give this "skilled nursing facility" one star in order to give a review. Make no mistake, this place is a snake pit run by incompetent and uncaring staff. It smells awful and it is very old and filthy. I was transferred there from a long hospital stay for a six day course of IV antibiotics. When I arrived to check in, there were three staff members behind the front desk doing nothing. I could not get anyone's attention. Finally I introduced myself and said I was there to register and be admitted. At long last, with no other introduction one of the aides brought me to my room and pointed at a bed that had been slept in and had a pile of filthy blankets piled on it. I asked if the linen would be changed and was met with no response or instructions. No one ever came to register me. Several hours later a woman appeared in my room and told me she was going to perform a "body check". I was basically strip searched including a hands on inspection of private body parts. I was more than shocked and given no reason for this search. I have never been so humiliated in my life. I was left to my own devices for hours so I tried to find a clean place on the bed to sit. "Dinner" was eventually brought to me. I could not identify one item on the plate. It looked just like or worse than jail food you see on tv. Needless to say, I did not touch it. I slept on a corner of the mattress that night fully dressed. No one ever came in to see if I needed anything or noticed that I was in my street wear. The next morning began with more jail food. At this point I had not eaten in 24 hours but they took my untouched food away with no comment. I weighed 90 pounds and was very sick. The semi-private room was a dirty hellhole that contained broken furniture that could not have been newer than the 1970's. The bathroom was disgusting and consisted of a small sink and a toilet. No shower. The whole time I was there I was never given towels. When I pressed the call button, no one came. As soon as possible that morning I texted a friend and asked her to come get me out of this place. I had been there about 12 hours. She came and we began packing my belongings. Suddenly, a woman named Ellen appeared along with a posse of backup employees and asked what I was doing. I told her that I was leaving and exactly why, including the strip search. She told me I could not leave and blocked the exit with her co-workers. I told her that she could not stop me from leaving, that I had been a paralegal for a large Philadelphia law firm for many years and absolutely knew my rights. I was about to call the police. She finally moved out of the way and marked a paper saying that I had left Against Medical Advice. I couldn't get out of there fast enough. When I got home, I went to the State Police Barracks and filed a police report which the Trooper listed as assault. Later that day I was unexpectedly visited by a woman from Health and Human Services who said that my experience had been reported and she was there to conduct a welfare check on me to see if I was all right. I told her my story and she said they would conduct an investigation. The next day I called Brinton Manor and asked to speak to the Administrator, Ellen, to emphasize the horrible experience I had there. I was told that she no longer worked there and that the day I left had been her last day. Right. This review could go on but I have already written enough. I am posting some pictures of my "accommodations" which I took with my cell phone. Do not be deceived by the beautiful pictures of the site that were posted by Brinton. Those pictures are a fantasy of the owners (Genesis, known for their acquisition of old failing nursing homes that they purchase cheaply, raise the prices, and decrease the services). My stay in that room would have been over $9,000 a month. Do not go there as a resident and please God do not place one of your loved ones there.

My wife and I were recently visiting her Mom in Maris Grove. She has been a resident since 2013…read moreand absolutely loves living there. She just had her 97th birthday and we came up to celebrate the occasion. We have have always enjoyed your community. Your landscaping is the best and looks amazing. Recently, I congratulated one of your team members, on how beautiful the flowers and plantings made the complex shine. He thanked me for noticing. Entering the community, your Security is very cordial and professional. Fran, one of the Security Team, was always very pleasant and we chatted with her about bringing up the sunshine from Florida. She was very amiable and always smiling. You can be very proud of her, and her team, by providing excellent security throughout the complex. In addition, we have had interaction with Melissa, at the front desk at the Cardinal Clubhouse. She is very helpful and works hard to meet everyone's needs. It's not always easy, but she is a real professional. It was nice seeing Mr. Robert Squillace again. He is the Accounting Office Coordinador. Always very personable, whenever we have financial questions, he is happy to answer them. We have dined with Mom and the food is excellent and full seating will be back shortly. She is looking forward to being back with her friends. Living in Florida, we have seen lots of Independent living Communities. None can compare to the wonderful way of living at Maris Grove. We know Mom is safe and sound and Dr. Smith, and Claire, watch out for her. If you are reading this review, and are interested in one of the best Senior Living Communities, in the nation, stop in for a visit. You will be glad you did. They have our utmost respect! Melissa Donovan was professional, kind and compassionate to our family's unique situation which included a super quick transition to assisted living for our mom. My brother and I live out of state; thanks to Melissa we were able to set everything up through emails and texts 5 days prior to her move-in date! Melissa communicated with us daily so we would have a smooth transition, and we cannot thank her enough. The staff at Merrill Gardens are top notch and really care about the residents. Everyone made mom feel welcome right away, she has been living there for only 3 weeks and is happily enjoying her daily activities. Moving to Merrill Gardens at Glen Mills has greatly improved her quality of life and it's a blessing for us to know she is happy and in such good hands. We love hearing her talk about her day every evening. The maintenance staff and guest services continue to help and check in to make sure mom is settling in since we went back home. The food is fantastic, the building is beautiful, and the amenities are unsurpassed! Thank you, Merrill Gardens, at Glen Mills for the amazing experience!

Our 95 year old Dad entered Glen Mills Merrill Gardens in mid April. He had come from his home…read moreinto a facility for the first time in his life. We are a family of 8 adult children who spent time daily visiting our Dad. The service presented and sold to us was not what we came to experience. We witnessed staffing shortages especially weekends almost without exception. The staff was stretched to beyond ability to meet the unit needs. It was clear that this facility was not equipped to operate a Memory Care unit and it was the part of the business with the lowest priority for cleanliness, food prep/quality, staffing and oversight. There were some very good caregivers but there were also some that lacked training in dementia and understanding of the service that was promised. We now have our Dad in another facility and can see the difference in training and care. I will not go into further detail in this review...just understand if you are looking at this facility, the person selling you the service is stating what should be happening vs what actually is. You will not see in a tour what is happening especially evenings and weekends.

Looking back getting Visiting Angels involved earlier would have avoided many of the challenges. Their aides were exceptionally diligent and compassionate. They worked with the nurses from the hospital system's palliative and later hospice care teams. The Visiting Angels scheduling team was also able to increase coverage as needed and were always just a call away, 24x7. The Visiting Angels were able to meet mom's daily care needs and provided a tremendous sense of relief. With Visiting Angels taking care of the ADL's, I was able to focus on managing the overall care (scheduling and taking her to appointments, paying her bills), while visiting angels took care of the day-to-day care needs at home. If you're in doubt that Visiting Angels can deliver, lets this ease your concern - they can. To Visiting Angels Chadds Ford, PA, thank you so much!
