SCAM SCAM SCAM This…read moreswimming pool has a very scammy predatory business practice. My child already graduated from La Petite Baleen at level 5. She swam there for at least 6 years and already knew all the basics. My wife was looking for something for her to do to help her maintain her skills. She was researching online and found this place that was ran by Daly City Recreational Center and wanted to give them a try. The first time she took our daughter there they did a quick assessment and said she belonged to Level 1. My wife reasoned with them and they ended up putting her in Level 2 (Jellyfish). We paid for 4 classes and they told us at the end of the 4th class they will evaluate her again. I was there with her the first 3 classes and all I saw was them putting my daughter on the side of the pool and had her kick her legs and swing her arms in the water while holding the side of the pool. Today was the 4th class. Before she began today's class I asked the guy at the reception counter about the rating. He told me he already got the eval result and that my daughter has failed. So all together they already gave her a failing grade from just 3 previous classes, even before her 4th and final class has started. I told him she already graduated from La Petite at Level 5. How did she fail when all she really did most of the time was kick her legs at the side of the pool. He gave me a non-answer about list of stuff she need to do and the teacher said she failed. My wife was angry. At the end of the today's class (the 4th class) my wife asked the teacher how come my daughter failed. The reason the teacher gave us was another non-answer like "her legs were too low". Even though she never told my daughter to kick her legs higher during class at all. There were zero instructions given. Secondly, when the teacher had her swam out in the open pool, she had my daughter laid on her back and kick her legs in the water while the teacher walked backward holding my daughter armpit. The teacher basically kept holding her back and didn't let my daughter swam freely and let her perform. But when my wife asked why did she hold my daughter's back the teacher lied and said my daughter told her to hold her. My daughter said she never told her to do that and that the teacher only kept repeating simple instructions like "swim in a circle". The whole class was only 25 minutes and there were 5 students in class. The teacher pretty much carried each student in circles and called it swimming. Each student had only around 5 minutes of "swim time" per class. While the rest of the 20 minutes she just swing her arms and kicked her legs at the side of the pool. A complete waste of time and money. My feeling is that they don't want to move students up too fast and they want to milk as much tuition fee from the parents as possible. Honestly, from what I could see, most parents just put their kids here so they have something to do. Many parents just day dream or scroll on the phone instead of paying attention to what they are teaching their kids. At about $10 per class it is cheap, I'll give you that. But you really do get what you paid for. And with the quality of "education" they give your child, it's totally not worth it. I am not sure where all the positive reviews came from. I am pretty sure they are either from people who works there or from parents who just like the big pool. I read through all the 1 star reviews on Yelp and Google review and they are inline of what we've experienced. This is not a swim class, it's more of a children day care with water.

We've been very very happy with the dedicated and kind instruction. We see swimming as a key life skill and appreciate the emphasis British swim school has on water safety and skills. Our eldest has some issues with attention and initially had anxiety when she moved up a level. British swim school has been so good to her and we now do private lessons for her. Rowan in particular has been really good in pushing her the right way. We've seen so much good progress . The pool definitely gets busy in the summer as the hotel has more guests but it's always been manageable for us. Once the school year has started the pool empties out again from the usual guests. This location is much preferred over 24 hr fitness for us.

Today her instructor was Eduardo and he was awesome with all the kids and very encouraging. It is also nice that they have someone who updates the instructor (today was Destinie who is great) on your child's progress prior to the start of class and they also send you an email to summarize how the class went and what they need to continue to work on. Also, you have up to a month to make up a class in case you miss a class and their app is very easy to use to do that. My daughter is always looking forward to swim class.

My girls had wonderful times in the water but I would say 2/3 of their teachers weren't quite sure what to do with them. Many can't perform all 4 strokes well. The scheduling is also inconsistent, with students having different teachers weekly. Coach Stacy is very skilled but unfortunately it doesn't seem that the same skills were passed down to the underage staff. (Most are 15-18) I hope with time they are able to work with their employees regarding curriculum. My two have made immense progress at La Petite in RWC and at a slightly cheaper rate so if you are on the fence, I highly recommend them over Shipman. We loved teachers Sonja and Rose but both have left the school. We were informed by another parent that Zumer had yelled at Rose in front of them and their own two girls. We attend their Burlingame location, because they have a heated indoor pool that can be used year round, as well as showers for right afterwards. Since starting here, my daughter went from not wanting to let go of the instructor or put her head underwater to swimming underwater and now doing freestyle! She loves her lessons and it's helped build so much confidence with water, which makes me feel great as a parent, as water safety is one of my biggest concerns. I recommend them to everyone!

I'm writing an update to my last review because they've updated the sign-in/sign-out system so it's much better now via an iPad rather than the binders. They've also added a water station for refilling water bottles. They no longer have a food stand, but they do have vending machines for snacks and drinks so that works pretty well. Also an improvement is the adult swim lane. previously there was only adult swim 15 minutes every two hours so that was difficult! Now there is always one lane which I really appreciate! Lifeguards are great, and i'm glad that they tell kids not to run. Kiddie pool was not functional this year due to a leak, and because it needs to be overhauled/rebuilt, it's unclear if it'll be available next year. I think most members love having this pool to go to during the season.
