This review has been a long time coming, but what happened was both despicable and heartbreaking…read more My father was a long-time customer of Rockland Trust of Raynham, MA. In the final years of his life, he was diagnosed with dementia and was no longer capable of managing his finances independently. A Power of Attorney (POA)--his son--was appointed, and during that period, substantial amounts were transferred from his retirement account into his checking account. These funds were then withdrawn by the POA the same day or the very next day. Over 30 months, more than $110,000 was withdrawn. This pattern of activity should have raised immediate red flags under any responsible financial institution's elder abuse monitoring policies. Instead, the local bank manager allegedly informed the POA in advance when deposits were coming in--directly enabling the rapid depletion of funds. Rockland Trust took no apparent action to safeguard my father's assets or investigate this behavior. At the time of his death, my father had only $82.32 left in his account. Even this final balance was never accounted for or turned over to missingmoney.com, as is standard when unclaimed funds remain. Rockland Trust utterly failed in its duty of care. This wasn't just bad customer service--it was a failure to recognize and respond to financial abuse. Families deserve better. Vulnerable seniors deserve protection. Rockland Trust did nothing.
