Terminal 5 at Heathrow is for British Airways with a separate check-in for Club. To my surprise, the queue for full service check-in was quite long. There was a dedicated bag drop line along with a document verification line. The priority screening was helpful for Club passengers although the security process was rather chaotic.... Boarding for long haul flights at B gates is a couple tram stops away. There are limited food options once at the B wing. The 777-300ER was in great shape, especially the cushions in Club Suites. There was a sliding door with my suite which was available after takeoff. I was extremely impressed with the catering out of Heathrow, which seemed to be done by Do & Co. Each course was presented and plated separately. The quality of each course was excellent. I was serviced by the in-flight manager whom addressed me by name with every interaction, which was surprising. Between meal services, I found the crew to be lazy as I had to head to the galley to get more water, some snacks, or a drink. Rubbish wasn't collected from my seat either. The dust bins were rather hard to find in the galley. My flight from Heathrow departed on-time and arrived on-time to SFO.

A few days later I received an email stating BA changed my return flight to leave from Baltimore not Washington Dulles. Since I will be unable to travel to another city and state for the flight I asked to be rebooked on a flight leaving Dulles. I was then informed I would need to pay to pick my seats. I told the agent I already had a ticket that included seat selection but was told there was no "free seat selection" on my new flight. I said my seat selection wasn't free but included in the ticket. They said because my flight changed due to "operations" that I would need to pay for seat section. I paid €170 for seat selection. Seven days later I received an email saying something was wrong with my booking and to call. After a 27 minute phone call I had to reenter my credit card information and was told I needed to check back in 7-10 days to see if the card was actually able to be charged. It really doesn't make sense to fly BA again when there are better options out there.

Our checked luggage also arrived safely. The seats and bathrooms on the plane were normal. Norwegian Air charges for every little thing. It reminds me of Spirit Airlines and Ryan Air. They charge extra for: carry on bags that weigh more than 10 kg checked baggage (has to be under 20 kg) snacks (no free pretzels) a soda or water on the flight meals seat reservation for "low fare" tickets connecting flights per leg rebooking and more The whole check in process could be a nightmare if you don't arrive three hours before your flight. Maybe because they even charge for carry on bags over 10 kg, they require everyone to check in - in person - at the counter. The check in line for Norwegian Air at London Gatwick was super short (lucky?) and the employees were nicer here than they were at Oakland Airport. You can't check in online, so there's no point in downloading the app. Skip the optional package that includes a checked bag and food. Pay for your checked bag separately. The food is not good. Just make sure that you bring on your own tasty food on the flight because you may get jealous of what looks like yummy food (but it's not). The flight attendants are oddly snobby. They are more professional than some U.S. based airlines, but they are not friendly in general. The Boeing plane I went on had cool dimming windows and working entertainment screens that had plenty of movies and tv shows to keep me distracted from the long, non-stop flight.

Moving by itself is stressful. Moving with a pet is even more stressful, especially when it…read moreinvolves flying. The transport regulations here in the UK are such that when you need to transport your pet onboard a plane, you will need to work with an pet traveling agency. They will be the middleman between you and the airline and will organise all the communication with both parties. I had gotten the contact details from Jayne at Redcoat Express from United when I inquired about "shipping" my dog Momo from London to San Francisco. In fact, they had given me name of 4 agencies, but Jayne responded first and that - to me - is a really good sign. Throughout the whole process Jayne was on top of things and organised it all beautifully; she made me feel very much at ease. Here's a bit of information for dog owners, when you need to fly with your pet to the US: * at least 30 days prior to departure, make sure your dog's rabies vaccination is up-to-date; * 10 or less days prior to the departure, go to your vet and get a Health Certificate and have them stamp page 28 in your pet passport; * contact Jayne at Redcoat Express and ask her to handle the paperwork for your dog; she will also make sure that you have the right travel equipment: here's what we needed: - travel kennel must be airline approved (we used http://doggiesolutions.c... ) - two water dishes, absorbent material/shredded paper with blanket/bedding that dog is used to for the base (no toys, collars or food is permitted in the travel kennel) * at the day of travel, one of Jayne's colleagues will meet you at the airport; this is where you will part with your friendly canine companion. What I really appreciated about working with Jayne and her colleagues that above all they were really nice and helpful. I contacted Jayne on her mobile several times and she always picked up immediately. On the day of departure, we realised that we'd forgotten to bring the water trays, which we had filled with water and frozen in the freezer. She laughed and said that they always have spare containers anyway. Her colleague - Tony - who met us at the airport was also super friendly too. What happened was that our dog kennel looked a bit small for our dog and he was concerned that the airline might reject the size. Instead of freaking us out - however - he said that this happens all the time and that he has other-sized kennels at home and would simply switch it out if the airline made fuss; luckily all turned out well and the kennel size was fine. Wonderful customer service! Just to show you what is involved from a monetary point-of-view, here's what we paid: - Pet Air Fare - £ 550.00 (based on the weight of our dog and travel kennel combined) - Airlines Surcharges - £ 99.80 - Agent Export Documentation Fee - £ 55.00 - Agent Export Customs Entry Fee - £ 25.00 - Meet at Heathrow Cargo area - £ 75.00 (meet time is 4 hours prior to departure time) Total amount...£804.80

First we were turned away from checkin because we were too early. The girls counted on her fingers and said " come back in an hour". When we finally get to the lounge I found there was nothing but soup and rolls to eat, aside from some wrapped cookies. There was a decent self service bar with wine and spirits. So they got two stars instead of one. Aside from that the place was clean enough and there was plenty of seating. (Which was no surprise because who would want to pay for this.) I paid $32 USD and all I got was a bowl of soup and a drink before having to depart for my flight. This was a total ripoff.

Our managing partner…read moreinsisted I go to London during the height of the coronavirus pandemic, so I reluctantly took Emirates to Heathrow. If you've never been on a giant Airbus with just seven passengers with about the same number of flight attendants, it's an experience not to be missed. Flying for several hours, we all got to know the cabin crew well, plus each other. The pilot, co-pilot and navigator even circulated through the cabin once autopilot kicked in. Emirates won me over as a passenger for life by upgrading my already-cheap business class ticket to first class (they upgraded the whole plane to keep all 7 within easy walking distance LOL). On a normal flight, Emirates has great service, terrific food and very comfortable seats. We took them on a recent vacation to Zanzibar, so I knew they were stellar. If given a choice that includes them I will ALWAYS pick Emirates from here on. They freely pass out expensive champagne and there were two showers on the plane plus a full manned bar. The flight attendant even indulged my curiosity to see the "honeymoon suite" complete with bed and rose petals LOL. The strangeness started at the airport on both ends: maybe 2 dozen people were in the whole place (see pic). Emirates boarding can feel pretty exotic...the uniform includes a nod to their Dubai headquarters with an unusual loose scarf attached to a pillbox hat (sort of 1960s Pan Am meets the Arab world). Both the crew and the passengers are like a United Nations cross-section of the world. With Emirates cabin crews, they don't employ cranky unhelpful grandparents wearing Crocs with modified t-shirts and wrinkled pants. While diverse in ages and nationalities, the cabin crew is remarkably well-dressed: sleek suit and tie for the men, high-style dresses with pumps (impressively worn the whole flight) for the women. None of the cabin or flight crew were Emirati, they hailed from Asia, Europe, Africa and the US. Everyone was unfailingly polite (almost Stepford Wife-like). One nice and unexpected touch was all the free time everyone on board had. This must be what it was like to fly in the 1940s, and felt pretty glamorous chatting casually with all onboard, despite everyone wearing a surgical mask when not eating or drinking. No one even cracked a smile at my face mask plus plastic clear face shield (courtesy of the surgeon hubby, hehe)...people even asked how to get something similar.

Or more reasonable Arab delicacies like stuffed dates. This is a very good airline, and the baggage allowance gives you a world of freedom to shop to your hearts content.
