Terminal 5 at Heathrow is for British Airways with a separate check-in for Club. To my surprise, the queue for full service check-in was quite long. There was a dedicated bag drop line along with a document verification line. The priority screening was helpful for Club passengers although the security process was rather chaotic.... Boarding for long haul flights at B gates is a couple tram stops away. There are limited food options once at the B wing. The 777-300ER was in great shape, especially the cushions in Club Suites. There was a sliding door with my suite which was available after takeoff. I was extremely impressed with the catering out of Heathrow, which seemed to be done by Do & Co. Each course was presented and plated separately. The quality of each course was excellent. I was serviced by the in-flight manager whom addressed me by name with every interaction, which was surprising. Between meal services, I found the crew to be lazy as I had to head to the galley to get more water, some snacks, or a drink. Rubbish wasn't collected from my seat either. The dust bins were rather hard to find in the galley. My flight from Heathrow departed on-time and arrived on-time to SFO.

A few days later I received an email stating BA changed my return flight to leave from Baltimore not Washington Dulles. Since I will be unable to travel to another city and state for the flight I asked to be rebooked on a flight leaving Dulles. I was then informed I would need to pay to pick my seats. I told the agent I already had a ticket that included seat selection but was told there was no "free seat selection" on my new flight. I said my seat selection wasn't free but included in the ticket. They said because my flight changed due to "operations" that I would need to pay for seat section. I paid €170 for seat selection. Seven days later I received an email saying something was wrong with my booking and to call. After a 27 minute phone call I had to reenter my credit card information and was told I needed to check back in 7-10 days to see if the card was actually able to be charged. It really doesn't make sense to fly BA again when there are better options out there.

Our managing partner…read moreinsisted I go to London during the height of the coronavirus pandemic, so I reluctantly took Emirates to Heathrow. If you've never been on a giant Airbus with just seven passengers with about the same number of flight attendants, it's an experience not to be missed. Flying for several hours, we all got to know the cabin crew well, plus each other. The pilot, co-pilot and navigator even circulated through the cabin once autopilot kicked in. Emirates won me over as a passenger for life by upgrading my already-cheap business class ticket to first class (they upgraded the whole plane to keep all 7 within easy walking distance LOL). On a normal flight, Emirates has great service, terrific food and very comfortable seats. We took them on a recent vacation to Zanzibar, so I knew they were stellar. If given a choice that includes them I will ALWAYS pick Emirates from here on. They freely pass out expensive champagne and there were two showers on the plane plus a full manned bar. The flight attendant even indulged my curiosity to see the "honeymoon suite" complete with bed and rose petals LOL. The strangeness started at the airport on both ends: maybe 2 dozen people were in the whole place (see pic). Emirates boarding can feel pretty exotic...the uniform includes a nod to their Dubai headquarters with an unusual loose scarf attached to a pillbox hat (sort of 1960s Pan Am meets the Arab world). Both the crew and the passengers are like a United Nations cross-section of the world. With Emirates cabin crews, they don't employ cranky unhelpful grandparents wearing Crocs with modified t-shirts and wrinkled pants. While diverse in ages and nationalities, the cabin crew is remarkably well-dressed: sleek suit and tie for the men, high-style dresses with pumps (impressively worn the whole flight) for the women. None of the cabin or flight crew were Emirati, they hailed from Asia, Europe, Africa and the US. Everyone was unfailingly polite (almost Stepford Wife-like). One nice and unexpected touch was all the free time everyone on board had. This must be what it was like to fly in the 1940s, and felt pretty glamorous chatting casually with all onboard, despite everyone wearing a surgical mask when not eating or drinking. No one even cracked a smile at my face mask plus plastic clear face shield (courtesy of the surgeon hubby, hehe)...people even asked how to get something similar.

Its pretty flexible, and the staff service and food are both very good. They are professional and efficient, so you know that you are in good hands. The stopover in Dubai also makes for excellent duty free shopping. You can buy anything from electronics, watches, jewelery, and clothes to alchohol and even win a sports car! Or more reasonable Arab delicacies like stuffed dates. This is a very good airline, and the baggage allowance gives you a world of freedom to shop to your hearts content.

Our checked luggage also arrived safely. The seats and bathrooms on the plane were normal. Norwegian Air charges for every little thing. It reminds me of Spirit Airlines and Ryan Air. They charge extra for: carry on bags that weigh more than 10 kg checked baggage (has to be under 20 kg) snacks (no free pretzels) a soda or water on the flight meals seat reservation for "low fare" tickets connecting flights per leg rebooking and more The whole check in process could be a nightmare if you don't arrive three hours before your flight. Maybe because they even charge for carry on bags over 10 kg, they require everyone to check in - in person - at the counter. The check in line for Norwegian Air at London Gatwick was super short (lucky?) and the employees were nicer here than they were at Oakland Airport. You can't check in online, so there's no point in downloading the app. Skip the optional package that includes a checked bag and food. Pay for your checked bag separately. The food is not good. Just make sure that you bring on your own tasty food on the flight because you may get jealous of what looks like yummy food (but it's not). The flight attendants are oddly snobby. They are more professional than some U.S. based airlines, but they are not friendly in general. We had to fly from London to Venice. When I asked my European cousins what locals use for cheap…read moreairfare, they referred me to Ryanair but warned me to read ALL the fine print. And so I did. From London to Venice and back to London, I found options of 3 flights a day. The mid-day/afternoon flight happened to be the one I needed, and of course that was the most expensive one. Upon booking, I also found that I am required to pay to book a specific seat because my son is underage. At the end, I paid about (US) $750 for 3 of us, roundtrip from London to Venice, including the seat charge. The one perk of paying for the seats early is that I was able to check in 30 days in advance for each leg of the trip, so I was able to print out boarding passes at home before we left for our vacation. Btw, I think I read that if you are traveling from outside the EU, you need to PRINT your boarding passes - do it at home or they will CHARGE YOU an insane amount to print at their kiosk (don't let them catch you for this charge - it's an easy one to avoid if you just know about it) Not getting charged for luggage was a big thing for me, so I read about their luggage size allowances (which by the way is nearly impossible to find something that works in the States because the width requirement is far smaller than what I was able to find - except I was lucky to find ONE $25 option at Costco that was only available for a week or so before they sold out!). We flew out of Stansted Airport, and it was a LONG ride from London, even on the "express" train. Getting to the right station in London, then taking the 45 minute train ride, probably took up 1 hour 15 minutes, if not more. We boarded the plane on the run way - our group had to go down and up stairs, and points to the mom by herself, hauling a stroller down stairs (with her kid in the stroller!) plus her huge pack on her back. Then we had to take the stairs up to the plane doors. Once we were on the plane, the inside just screamed "Southwest plane, in a blue and yellow disguise". Overall the 2 hour flight was fine. The attendants were attentive and the flight was on time. I would say I was too stressed out about not getting charged for something I missed, but I was okay after reading to fine print and taking care of the details. Whether I fly them again will just depend on where I need to go in the future - for shorter distances I think I'd prefer taking a train instead.

When we finally get to the lounge I found there was nothing but soup and rolls to eat, aside from some wrapped cookies. There was a decent self service bar with wine and spirits. So they got two stars instead of one. Aside from that the place was clean enough and there was plenty of seating. (Which was no surprise because who would want to pay for this.) I paid $32 USD and all I got was a bowl of soup and a drink before having to depart for my flight. This was a total ripoff.

Easyjet are a British low-cost airline, they are a familiar brand name across Europe with the bright orange logo and Easy branding now being used for gyms and budget hotels. Easyjet are grouped into the category of low-cost budget airlines, but I find them as more of a middle-of-the-line option, fares are often lower or very similar to other airlines, and they aren't Ryanair cheap. It can be straightforward to get a good deal when using Skyscanner and booking in advance though. Being a "low-cost" airline you can't expect too much, you won't find USB charging on board and their version of "WiFi" only includes access to tracking your flight in real-time, checking out the food/drink menu and playing a select amount of games. Gluten-free food on board is also non-existent. I had an incident in 2014 where I flew with Easyjet as a recently diagnosed Coeliac; the stewardess told me the couscous was gluten-free when it was not. It was a good job I ended up checking the packaging before eating it, or I could have become very sick. Other than this one-off incident, I haven't had any other major issues when flying with Easyjet and while their food options for allergens haven't really improved, I hope their staff training has. One big advantage for me as a regular traveller from Manchester, is that as of October 2024, they use Terminal 1, which is far better than Terminal 3 used by some budget airlines. The seats are no more or less comfortable than any other airline, and as I'm short the leg room isn't a dealbreaker for me. 3* - OK, I wouldn't choose to fly with Easyjet if an alternative was on offer, but as far as airlines go, they aren't too bad.

Charged £48 for 1 cm: I Won't Be Flying easyJet Again I…read morerecently flew with easyJet and, based on this experience, I will no longer be booking flights with them--and neither will the people I regularly travel with. EasyJet, that's multiple future bookings you have now lost. Just before boarding at Gatwick, my small suitcase was found to be roughly 1 cm too tall, despite all other dimensions being within limits. I was charged £48 to upgrade my bag. The case has flown with easyJet and other airlines many times without any issue and it fits perfectly under the seat, where I have placed it on previous flights. On my return flight, the bag wasn't checked at all--highlighting how inconsistent and arbitrary these checks can be. With so many similar negative reviews on TravelAdvisor for example, it's clear this kind of treatment is their standard practice. It's disappointing to see an airline handle their customers this way, especially when I'm due to travel soon to one of their destinations--but will now be choosing another carrier. Plenty of choice there. I hope this review helps other passengers: EasyJet's bag checks are extremely strict, inconsistent, and leave no margin whatsoever. Measure everything very carefully or go with a different airline. Date of travel: January 2026.
