I've been to many, but there is something so special and unique about the aura here, and I am not one to typically talk about auras... But you can feel something the moment you arrive. Something traversing the lines between total calm, joy, gratitude...ease. It's just...so peaceful. The animals are so clearly happy here. They receive true care from the sanctuary owners, Kathy and Erich, as well as their dedicated volunteers. They are cared for medically, emotionally, and physically, and their life includes much enrichment. Whereas the interactions with animals at other sanctuaries seems more driven by food than anything else, Saving Grace makes a conscious effort to ensure interactions are about LOVE and CONNECTION by not allowing visitors to offer food to the animals (except on very special occasions). This may seem like a bummer at first but when you realize that the animals are interested in spending time with YOU--not just eating what's in your hand then running off--you can truly bond with them in a meaningful way. I could spend hours here, and I could talk about it just as long. But alas, the only way for you to understand what I am seeing is to go visit for yourself. 100% donation run, and with no salary taken by the owners (they have their own business), every penny of your donations truly go into the animals. So consider making a lifesaving donation, volunteering your time, or coming by for a visit soon!

My sis's 2 year old had a grand slam time and was super curious. Make sure to drop something in the donation box on your way out n grab some merchandise from their website to show your support... they're awesome n doing great things!

**UPDATE** After a…read moreyear writing this review, the Team at Daphneyland failed to do their part after meeting with their team. I do respect the objectives of what they are trying to accomplish, but it does prove the point of...Why people shop for dogs versus adopting. 1) We were promised an in-home inspection after many phone calls/interactions with one of their field representatives. When we were close to scheduling, they were no longer available to answer our calls nor responded to our inquiry. We felt that this was a slap to our face to drive over/close to 100 miles to visit. 2) After visiting Daphneyland, we were promised that one of the Basset Hounds would be On-Hold for us. A few days later on Social Media, the same dog was adopted to another family. FALSE PROMISES!! We have had more interaction and proactive responses from Basset Hound Rescue of Southern California. We wanted to rescue one, but unfortunately, it won't be from here. The Yelp Journey you take is an inspiration for others. Whether it is for them to try or to be in the footsteps of your experience. With every Yelp Story, it gives another day of bright light from the hidden shadows. Yelp Today and be heard!

I have personally spent time at this amazing place and know the staff well. They have the Holy Grail of information on nutrition, rehabilitation, overall wellness and needs for this breed of hound. Please come and visit when they are open and come see for yourself! There is so much love, kindness, devotion, and hard work put into keeping this facility running smoothly. Dawn has a lifetime of experience and wealth of knowledge and can answer any questions or concerns. They do their best to place the hounds in good homes and it shows. It's a special place. One of a kind in the world for Basset Hounds. Don't hesitate and adopt.

Lots of dogs & cats available for adoption (ONLY $30!!! AND, they come already micro-chipped & spayed/neutered.) No admission or parking fees. We've been to a lot (check my "Dog Friendly Adventures" list) and for a spur-of-the-moment decision to attend, this was a really good experience for us & our little Ruxin. Venue's great at William S. Hart Park. Grassy & shady. Accessible restrooms. Parking wasn't a problem since we came early. Found a public lot 2 blocks away. Our Ruxin is apparently tired of his current dog food so we wanted to pick up some samples to see if he'd show interest in something new. Came home with all kinds of food & treats. The various vendors were great about explaining their products & letting us know where we can buy them locally or online. We pup-sit our son's Corgis often and these samples will be shared with them. One of them has a really fussy tummy & most of the samples are organic. Several veterinary offices also had booths there if you live locally & want to meet the staff. There was a shots clinics also which had a long line. Someone told us the various shots were low-cost or possibly free. There's also pet-themed art & crafts being sold. I bought some dog toys at very reasonable prices. We seriously considered adopting another JackChi, but Ruxin was being a weenie. He wasn't being nice to the other dog at all. Additional notes: Dogs must be well-behaved and on leash. Please bring poop bags. Small dogs should be carried or in a stroller. It got crowded very quickly. Our lil' guy got his tail stepped on, so the hubby carried him for the rest of our stay. There's donation boxes situated here and there. The donations help to keep this festival free for all of us. We had a great time and will definitely want to come back next year.

Remarkably similar experience as some of the other negative reviews…read more Adopting our pet was smooth other than the frequent last minute delays brought on by general disorganization. "I'll be there in 1 hour" then 2 then 3 etc. That was just an annoyance. When it came time to deliver us rabies proof and all the other paperwork things took a rapid dark turn. We simply wanted proof of rabies to be safe with the training requirement and our liability when the dog is out n about. The owner responded to our brief request with a multi paragraph emotional rant. Truly baffling stuff. Then came lie after lie. In a single email thread the paperwork was available but she was too busy to deliver it then sick then came the doozy that explains why this is a pattern behavior... The states intent of mutt match is to deceive the adopter into thinking they will get paperwork upon adoption then withhold the paperwork until the trainer friend is paid. This is not what you will be told upfront. Once we knew the trainer friend for some reason did not worry about rabies proof (most do require it) we booked training immediately. The trainer is fantastic and likely unaware of what is happening. Then the paperwork showed up. In the 2 month process of dealing with deception and negative emotional commentary that borders on childish name calling (to give a flavor of how weird it gets) our pet was unable to go to our groomers or vet as they require proper paperwork. In summary, The dog is not the priority. The money is. And that would be fine if it was a honest adoption process. But the bizarre deceptive business practices turned a simple process into a constant headache with a high conflict personality at the cost of the dogs well being. Poor management. Would avoid this place like the plague. The owner says she simply "laughs" at Yelp negative reviews when respectfully asked about the pattern we saw in other reviews.
