After adopting our sweet boy at an adoption event in Santa Clarita, we drove out to Sunny Day for his next round of shots. The shots were included in the $100 adoption fee. The owner and her assistant were very helpful and friendly. They gave us some details about our little guy's litter. The owner also gave us some medicine for his ear that had an infected spot. We were also told about the dog obedience classes. It is a drive to the place but worth it. The owner is so compassionate about rescuing puppies. read more

I am amazed at this place. I drove a couple hours from home not knowing what to expect and found my dream pup! Jennifer was very generous and made sure our dogs got along and that I had everything I needed to get pup started before we left. I later signed both my dogs up for board & train and they came back with exactly the skills we asked for. My dogs are no longer nearly as reactive, they are socialized, they have leash manners, and more! So I've never actually been to an animal shelter before this one. My wife found it as we had been looking for a dog to rescue. She had been to some and told me this is basically what they are all like. Well, ok. This place has a huge outdoor space where they offer dog training classes, board and care and adoption services. There are many other animals that stay on the property too. It is always busy on weekends so prepare for a wait when you come to visit and see the dogs they have available for adoption. The people are friendly, and it seems like they all care about the animals and the work that they do. We ended up adopting a puppy rescue mutt when she was 6 weeks old from here. I had NO idea how much work a puppy was, but nonetheless, the shelter has been extremely helpful. They give the puppy all her shots. We just have to bring them back periodically when they are due. Our puppy had an upset stomach when we got her so she was being treated with oral antibiotics. They only knock I have was that according to our vet, the shelter was overdosing her, and likely causing worsening symptoms. Luckily we remedied that quickly with our Veterinarian. Other than that, they have been nothing but helpful and caring. They also offer 6 free training classes on Saturdays for every dog that is adopted from there. We haven't taken advantage of that yet but it's totally a good deal. I'm sure we will also take advantage of their reasonable rates for boarding at some point or another. Overall, I recommend this place if you are looking to adopt. read more

We had a blast visiting Sunny Day Acres and absolutely LOVED training with Jennifer Gray and the whole crew!! Actually, it was like visiting one big happy family found all the way out in this beautiful countryside ranch... the drive was easy and we truly appreciated how welcome they made us feel! I am so grateful for this experience and even though this was to test and evaluate me, I also learned so much!! Most especially for only being 19 months old, this was the adventure of my lifetime so far, as it was so much fun being able to meet all kinds of awesome farm animals, Furbabes of all sizes and even one of the feline sort~ Sunny Days Acres is a fantastic spot and definitely a whole new world for me to explore... so many new lessons and smells, which is exactly what I needed to "turn the light" on to help me figure a few things... Jennifer's training expertise has been a tremendous help to me and thanks to her amazing skill and insight, she was able to identify exactly what was missing and gave us the tools to make positive changes in my daily routine. In fact, walking on a leash in this crazy busy world has never been easier, or should I say, safer... I definitely haven't mastered things 'yet' but, I am learning to greet dogs with the best of manners and understanding doggie body-lingo much better!! This is so important because for one, I am SOOO big and most dogs misunderstand my obnoxious goofy approach so from now on, I "sniff" first I hope to visit again someday but until then, I am confident my behavior will keep getting better & better with continued socializing and work on behavior skills... maybe even close to perfect! I brought my dog for a training session with Jennifer in October of 2023 to address my dog's leash reactivity. The first thing she did was intentionally put my dog in situations she wouldn't be able to handle so that she could "correct" her with an e-collar. I trusted that she was a professional and knew what she was doing, so I began to use the e-collar like she had taught me. After about a week, the e-collar was no longer interrupting her reactions so I reached back out to Jennifer, whose only advice was to turn up the settings. Unfortunately, my dog experienced major behavioral fallout from this. While my intention had been to teach my dog that the behavior of barking/lunging was wrong, I had actually taught her that she would experience discomfort whenever she saw another dog and she became even more reactive because of it. If you're coming to SDA for dog training, I highly recommend looking elsewhere, preferably for someone with real training certifications from reputable organizations read more

I brought my shy sweet little Macey to Sunny Day Acres for the beginning socialization class. When I first rescued her she was terrified of other dogs and would not enjoy being around other people. I was only able to attend 8 classes with her, but she had shown so much improvement. Now she is able to play and be around other dogs and has shown more personality with me. She was also able to take a few swimming lessons with the owner Jennifer and became much more comfortable in the water. Jennifer is so sweet and has a huge passion and big heart for working with animals. My sister rescued a dog that had terrible ear infections with over 10 burs in her ears that should've been removed at "the ranch." They do not answer phone calls and claim there's "no reception" but have WiFi...unacceptable and unprofessional "rescue". (They reached out immediately though once I posted my review). I would HIGHLY recommend looking elsewhere that has background checks and a proper adoption system in place. read more

I can't say enough about how amazing my experience has been at Sunny Day Acres and with all of the trainers here. My dog Daisy is extremely dog reactive to the point where I would pick her 40lb self up when we passed other dogs rather than deal with her reactions. I never thought I'd see her happy around other dogs, playing with other dogs and be able to control her. I've been going to training for just over a year and not only does she play with other dogs at the facility I was able to integrate a new dog into my home and it has been wonderful. Jennifer helped me to find a dog that would be a good fit for my dog and her issues. I now have 2 happy dogs that play together and live in harmony. I have had my older dog for 10 years and I have been through countless trainers and there was never any significant improvement. Teaching her to sit, stay and come just wasn't going to help with her reactiveness to other dogs. After working with the trainers out at SDA I now have a completely different relationship with my dog. They helped me to gain confidence in working with her. The biggest difference is that they actually simulate real world scenarios and have you practice identifying your dogs trigger and working on it to be able to handle it. I can now walk both my dogs around other dogs and even cats and completely control them. (Still working on squirrels :) ) I can't recommend them enough. read more

I've been meaning to write this for a while, but it took me some time to get over the trauma Jennifer caused me. She was BEYOND rude, the second she approached me she began yelling at me in front of a group of people she was training rather than pulling me aside and gently offering solutions for a dog I was looking to surrender. Yes I was surrending a dog, not the greatest idea in the eyes of an animal lover, but the way she handled it was with complete lack of manners, sympathy and professionalism. For someone who trains dogs should get some training herself on how to talk to people. Then she threatened to report me for surrending a dog, which apparently is her own make believe crime. I was so distraught for days after leaving. Had she approached me nicely I would have been willing to try routes of training. But I could not keep myself together. The rest of her staff was extremely nice and tried to comfort me, but it was too late. DO NOT GO HERE. read more

GIVING THANKS: Sunny Day Acres Finding Jennifer Gray and Sunny Day Acres has been the best gift 2018 has given us! My wife and I have two wonderful dogs that mean the world to us - but our horrible experiences with kennelling them has prevented us from being able to travel since they've joined our family. We had tried two different kennels in the past, but in one case they said they just couldn't control the dogs, and in the other case when we picked the dogs up, they seemed almost traumatized by the experience (which was completely traumatizing for my wife and me too). After speaking with people who told us that some dogs just can't be successfully kennelled, we were pretty well resigned to the fact that we just wouldn't be able to travel as much as we used to. Our dogs were worth it to us, but it's obviously not the best situation. This year was my in-laws 50th anniversary and there was simply no way we could miss the event - which meant we decided to give kennelling one more try. We talked to everyone we knew, trying to find a place we could be comfortable leaving our dogs, and that's when someone told me that she knew just the right place for us ... Sunny Day Acres. We were skeptical, but desperate, so, we all drove out to Sunny Day Acres in Agua Dulce to meet with the owner, Jennifer Gray. As we got out there, it was obvious that this was a different kind of place - a big property in a rural area with lots of room for the dogs to run around and play. When we met Jennifer, it was clear right away that our dogs thought she was something special, because she seemed to have an instant connection with them and they treated her like they had known her forever! (That is NOT normal for our boys.) Feeling better about it, we decided to board them at Sunny Day Acres while we were gone - and it worked out perfectly! When we got home and picked up the dogs, they were excited to see us, but it was obviously that they had been happy and well taken care of while we were gone. They both kept running back-and-forth between us and the staff, wagging their tails and jumping up and down! It went better than we could ever have hoped - and so did their second stay there later in the year. It is a huge relief knowing that we have a place that our dogs love to stay when we're forced to leave them at home! It really makes a big difference! In the spring, we're planning on starting classes at Sunny Day Acres too (and I think the dogs are already excited about it)! :) This is an AMAZING place with an AMAZING staff! read more

I've brought both of my dogs here for boarding many times, and they both come back happy and tired:) One of my dogs, Yoda, is a pit mix who can get a bit excited, and Jen, also being a great trainer, has been terrific teaching ME how to shift my energy and understand my little handful. We came to Sunny Day to work specifically with Stefano. Our dog, (a jack russel), was extremely aggressive, had bitten multiple family members, was completely undisciplined, would lunge at cars, would guard items he shouldn't have, etc. I was coming to the point that I was seriously considering giving him up but couldn't bear the thought of it because I knew no one would take him. Stefano came in and took control of the situation from day one. With just one session, I could already see a difference with Mr. Jack. He really gave us hope when I thought it was hopeless. Mr. Jack took beginning to advanced socialization and has made improvements WAY beyond what I ever thought was possible. He listens to commands now and was able to go on walks off leash around other dogs. Stefano gave us the tools, confidence and discipline we desperately needed to get Mr. Jack under control. Thanks to Stefano, we can actually enjoy our dog instead of every day being a struggle. Stefano saved our dog and our sanity! I recommend him to everyone I meet who has a problem dog.
